In a recent post, I said that I would list some helpful tips on writing to Cosgrove-Meurer Productions in an effort to persuade them to put UM back in production. I have come up with such a list, but before I list them, I shall give you the address to write to.

And now the tips:

1) Write to the company. Physical letters carry far more weight than other methods of communication (such as phone calls and emails).

2) Produce your letter in handwritting, but please make certain that it is legible. (Handwritten letters tend to look more authentic than typed letters.)

3) Be polite and friendly. Hostility of any kind (such as rudeness, tirades, and name-calling) will only work against you!

4) Don't mention this web site or any other UM-related web site (or any association you might have with one). TV companies are generally more willing to hear from average viewers than die-hard fans.

5) Keep your letter short and to the point. One page is enough!

6) If you are writing to them as a favor for someone, DO NOT admit it! You want to give them the impression that you are doing this on your own and by choice.

7) Explain why you like UM and why they should bring it back.

I agree. However, I still stand by the idea that mentioning this board (or any other UM-related website) to Cosgrove-Meurer Productions could work to our disadvantage. It might give the company some wrong assumptions, such as the possibility that the letter is half-hearted. I mean, they may (rightly or wrongly) end up believing that the letter was conducted as a favor for someone. So it is extremely important that you give the imression that you are writing to them under your own complete free will.

My suggestions that I gave are important, especially the one about keeping your letter short and to the point. Many companies tend to dislike reading long letters. Eventually, the reader will get bored and not bother to finish reading the letter. So DO NOT be verbose. One page is enough!

Being civil is also very important. And you don't want your letter to be threatening or hostile in any way. Hostile letters typically get thrown away.

This message will hopefully show that there's a right way to do something, and a wrong way to do something. And I hope everyone keeps that in mind when or if you decide to write to Cosgrove-Meurer to express support for UM, and your wish for the show to come back.

This is an employee from Cosgrove-Meurer. Please do not write to the office; there is nothing we can do. If you would like to see new shows, the only advice we have is for you to call Lifetime Television and tell them. We would love to see the show return, but Lifetime would have to request new shows. Perhaps hearing directly from the viewers would change their minds. In addition, Lifetime controls when and how often the reruns are aired, so if you want to see more, please tell them as well.
