LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry said on Wednesday she has separated from her husband of nearly three years, singer Eric Benet, citing ongoing marital difficulties.

"Eric and I have had marital problems for some time now and have tried to work things out together," Berry, 37, said in the statement issued by her publicist. "However, at this point, I feel we need time apart to reevaluate our union. We ask that you respect our privacy as we are going through this emotional time."

Berry, who won the Academy Award as best actress last year for her sexually charged performance in "Monster's Ball," met Benet backstage at a concert he gave several years ago. They married in January 2001.

Berry's previous marriage to Cleveland Indians outfielder David Justice ended in divorce in 1996. The Cleveland-born actress was last seen in theaters as Storm in the big-screen superhero adventure "X2."

Wow...why am I shocked?

I wish i could get with Halle cause she is so hot. Eric Benet is a fool to have cheated on her. Eric had a major sex problem & that's one of the reasons why they separated. My favorite Halle movie is Strictly Business. She looked so good in that movie & i like the way she had her hair in that movie & the outfits she was wearing. In her other movies, she always looks like a crackhead LOL. Her upcoming movie Gothika looks weird. She didn't deserve a oscar for Monster's Ball at all. That movie was terrible. The people who are on the oscar committee who voted for her to win must've been on crack LOL.

Halle Berry is beautiful, talented and unlucky in love; however, I lost all respect for her when she did that hit and run in her car which left another woman seriously injured.

Every time I look at her face, I think of that. It takes a special person to do something like that, and not the good kind of special. :thumbsdow
