I recall two references to the elephant man (John/Joseph Merrick) in the show. Can you name them or any others?

Did you say "Pig Man?..." :)

The Dog #21
K-Man is going to break up w/ hidious girl friend (Ellen), Elaine mentions how seeing her personality would be like unvieling the Elephant Man.

The Pitch #43
After George semi-blows their deal w/ Russell Dalrimple (& NBC), Jer says George should be studied, not regular but by a team, like the E-Man.

Can't find any others.

I think those are the only two. The only other elephant reference I know of is the circus shower head one. I guess they could have used that model shower head on Merrick as well when he was in the freak show, I think he was in a freak show for a while at least. Anybody know the BareNaked Ladies song that refers to the elephant man?

You got the two that I was thinking of. The song is If I had A Million Dollars, isnt it?

Let TheMaestro remind you of one more:
(The Pick) Jerry makes a speech indicating that pickers are human as well "I am not an animal" which is from The Elephant Man.

The Abstinence #143
Kramer: "Look away, I'm hideous"
To Jerry, when Kman was tooled from smoking.

Just wanted to make sure TheMaestro saw we added a 4th valid reference :D

I always thought of the "I am not an animal" quote as something Quazimoto like, but I see it is full on E-man lingo. Your quote made me think of mine, which is from a scene you dig :D (when Jer can't stop laughing at catcher's met smoker face K-man :D - I bet the "I'm hideous" line was unscripted, Michael Richards prob pulled it when he was crakin' up Jer, you think? )

Actually, interesting Jer would reference someone like John Merrick so much. Anything over 3 references is getting pretty significant, apparently Jer (or Larry D.) thought about Merrick.

It made me look up some stuff, pretty interesting & you stumble accross some bizarre shnit too. :eek:

Oh, & btw, reading some stuff about Merrick makes me want to call him by his name, as opposed to the common term.... weird, but really.... I guess it basically "I am not an animal!"

===
"One thing that always struck me as sad about Merrick was the fact that he could not smile. Whatever his delight may be his face remained expressionless. He could weep, but he could not smile" -Frederick Treves

A Poem often quoted by Joseph:

Tis true my form is something odd,

But blaming me is blaming God;

Could I create myself anew

I would not fail in pleasing you.

If I could reach from pole to pole

Or grasp the ocean with a span,

I would be measured by the soul;

The mind's the standard of the man.

His is a strange tail er tale indeed. I knew there were two but didnt pick up on the others. I think Jer must have liked the movie or something to include the references. Or a writer liked em. Are we agreed that 4 is the limit now?
