Hey mark10 and everyone else,

I called the 818 number you gave AND IT IS HORRIBLE NEWS. It seems Lifetime has cancelled the show and is no longer interested. Cosgrove-Meurer has tried to shop it to other networks but NO ONE IS INTERESTED!

I FIND THAT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE SINCE IT IS A VERY INTERESTING SHOW AND I'M SURE SOME NETWORK COULD CARRY IT!!

So, they told me that THEY CONSIDER THE SHOW PERMANENTLY OUT OF PRODUCTION AND THEY WILL NEVER BRING IT BACK!!

WHAT A TRAVESTY!!

Maybe if enough of us call then it would put more pressure on them and they will bring it back!!

IT CAN'T HURT SO EVERYONE CALL 818-843-5600 AND ASK THEM TO BRING THE SHOW BACK WITH A NEW HOST, ANY HOST AS LONG AS THEY HAVE THE SHOW BACK WITH NEW EPISODES!!

NO, because there are always new mysteries and unexplained events that occur.

Unlike a sitcom, this is truly show that could run forever since it is based on true stories, not a script.

This is so sad. I don't understand why Lifetime doesn't want to do any more. It seems like it's a popular show--popular enough to bring back on in the evening.

There are so many interesting cases that could be profiled on this show. It's just a shame that no other network is interested in picking it up and developing new episodes. I think if they found another solid host and promotted it right, it could garner decent ratings. I'm just really disappointed that we've seen the last of any new episodes (or any new segments for that matter).

I'm a little confused. Did they mean they aren't going to make any more new ones or they're going to stop airing the reruns as well? It would be nice if they could make some new ones, but I'm glad they are still airing the old ones and hope they still will.

They will probably keep showing repeats for the rest of the year and maybe till next spring. But come next summer when the new season of Unsolved Mysteries SHOULD'VE STARTED they will probably be pulled from the air AND THERE WILL NEVER BE UNSOLVED MYSTERIES ON TV AGAIN.

So, while we still have a chance to save it when it is on YOU ALL SHOULD CALL COSGROVE AND TELL THEM YOU AND ALL YOUR FRIEDNS AND FAMILY LOVE THE SHOW AND PLEASE KEEP IT ON THE AIR WITH ANY OTHER HOST SINCE THERE WILL ALWAYS BE NEW MYSTERIES AND UNEXPLAINED OCCURENCES, ETC.!!!

Again the number is 818-843-5600

EVERYONE PLEASE CALL!!

THANKS A LOT!!

If you know the address for Cosgrove/Meurer Productions, it's extremely important that you write to them. When it comes to methods of communication, physical letters should always come first since they carry far more weight than phone calls. It's physical proof that you made the effort to contact them, while it is very easy to pretend (or forget) that a phone call never took place.

At some point, I will post a list of helpful hints in the cause to persuade the studio to reactivate UM, so stay tuned.

The address for Cosgrove is on another thread by Mark10 I think. Thanks for your help Kane and please let us know the results of your research to help keep the show on.

I still say the Sci-Fi channel should give it a try.

I'm not sure that I trust the sci fi channel due to the fact that they got rid of Quantum Leap, another one of my favorite shows. You never know, though. Chances are that Sci Fi would want to focus on episodes of UM that have a lot of unexplained segments. A lot of episodes wouldn't be shown.

Yep, I don't see Sci-Fi as a good choice either. I was thinking more along the lines of A&E airing it...

The only reason I suggested Sci-Fi is b/c it picked up John Edwards show awhil back and he isnt the same as Star Trek....there is also that channel that plays the miracles show hosted by John Boy Walton, cant think of the name, PBS maybe? Just grasping at straws here, folks:)

I'm sorry, I don't know how to post a previous quote here (not too smart when it comes to computers) but I think the channel CrushedVelvet is referring to is PAX. They run that John Boy Walton miracles show and also a program with Jerry Orbach that deals with the unexplained. To my understanding, PAX is a very family-oriented network and I think Unsolved Mysteries would fit into their line-up just fine. After all, several UM segments have had religious themes, and just think of all the heartwarming lost love cases they have shown over the years. Do you think it is too early to write to PAX and suggest they pick up UM? I know Lifetime is airing it now, but from what I've been reading on this board that won't be the the case much longer.

I have a feeling that network execs aren't interested because they think "we have America's Most Wanted, what do we need another one for". They don't realise that Unsolved was more than that.

I agree that PAX might be a good choice. They're a religious network but not above a show like this. Being "family-oriented" means they might not be so enthusiastic about the murder stories, but so what... they were seldom if ever graphic. I still think Richard Belzer for host if he could get away long enough from his other filmings. Or bring back Keely Shaye Smith! Let's have PAX's contact info so we can write to them and urge them to pick it up.

I don't know, there were some cases on UM that were pretty grisly, even in the reenactments.

Here's some contact info for PAX, just a form to send via internet:

I wish Rescue 911 would come back to cable! Right now, Discovery Health shows it, which isn't avaliable on Cable.

You know, the thought of a replacement for Robert Stack hadn't hit me until now, because I thought Mr. Stack was the perfect and only guy to narrate this show. But, I have a great idea, in my opinion, of course. How about David Warner? (from The Omen, Titanic, Twin Peaks, Time Bandits, Straw Dogs, Star Trek, etc.) Yes, he's British, but I think his voice would be good for narrating these kind of stories. Plus, he's a little creepy looking... :D

Oh, and I don't think PAX is a great choice because my cable provider doesn't carry it. :(

Personally, I don't think I would like the series if it didn't have Robert Stack in it. His voice went with the show. When Virginia Madsen was on it, I didn't like it and I was glad when they dropped her.

personally, i'd rather see it on Court TV or A&E than on Pax

court tv shows alot of episodes of Cops (Even though nobody watches), thats proof that Court TV is in desperate need of good programming and programmnig that will generate decent ratings

This is an employee from Cosgrove-Meurer. Please do not call the office; there is nothing we can do. If you would like to see new shows, the only advice we have is for you to call Lifetime Television and tell them. We would love to see the show return, but Lifetime would have to request new shows. Perhaps hearing directly from the viewers would change their minds. In addition, Lifetime controls when and how often the reruns are aired, so if you want to see more, please tell them as well.

November 14th-8pm will be the final UM on Lifetime.

November 17th at 1pm ET, a movie airs. Not sure about the 8pm slot yet, but Lifetime doesn't list anymore episodes beyond 11/14.

Going to email Lifetime to get them to at least keep it on once a day...

You should call them and write them to have a STRONGER AND MORE IMMEDIATE IMPACT SINCE TIME IS RUNNING OUT FAST!! ONLY ABOUT A WEEK LEFT!!

Can someone put the number and address of Lifetime on here again?

It's gone totally after November 14th. 1pm slot is replaced by a movie, 8pm slot is replaced by 1-800-Missing.

I don't think they will bring it back no matter how much we write. :(

I found an address:

Lifetime Television
2049 Century Park East #840
Los Angeles, CA 90067

Don't bother with phone calls. Physical letters carry far more weight than phone calls. Besides, it's often easy for someone to pretend (or forget that) that a telephone call ever happened.

Remember to keep the letter short and to the point. One page is enough! (Chances are these people will get bored with multi-page letters and not bother to finish reading it.)

Also, remember to be friendly and polite. No name-calling or any other form of hostility. That will do nothing to help in your favor.

Good luck.

I will write a letter today and send it out ASAP. Reality of it all tells me that it is most likely being taken off for a very good reason. Several actually.

1. The show has been on for a VERY LONG time on Lifetime and something must be showing them that the show isn't as interesting lately as it was before. Ratings if you will. Let's ignore the new episodes fromt he last 2 seasons, all the others have been replayed over and over again through these years. Most people who gave the show ratings who use to watch it faitfully probably don't anymore. Yes, the members of this board do, but that isn't enough to keep the ratings up. I'm sure it all took a nosedive when Robert passed away.

2. Since Robert has passed away, there went the hope for any new episodes or at the very least, updates to cases from him. Lastly, most people do not want to see it now that he died. I know several people who use to enjoy watching it before and I noticed they don't anymore. When I asked them why here's the response I got: "I've seen most of the episodes hundreds of times. Even the old ones. That in itself makes the show boring, and now that Robert Stack is dead there will probably never be another episode of US again. There is just no point to it anymore. All I think of when I see that show now is how he's dead. I don't want to see it now that he's gone."

I too wish that Lifetime would take a look at ALL the episodes of UM and mix them up if possible. I wish this wasn't going to happen but it looks like it is. Lifetime is probably putting all their energy into 1800 Missing and that other new show. Sigh, let's hope our letters have some sort of effect on Lifetime. :)

I agree. It has been on Lifetime since January of 1992, that is almost 12 years! Many sitcoms that air in syndication aren't on the same network for even half that time!

I still think one day another network may pick the series up(for reruns) I am not sure I will watch the show if they were ever to bring it back with another host... Robert Stack added a lot to the show.

Are you sure they're going to stop completely airing UM on Lifetime altogether? Sometimes their computer listings aren't the most accurate. All of us that have been watching it on Lifetime for years now know that they are always moving it around, then they'll take it off for a while, while they air some new stupid show that they have created. Then when that new show bombs (as it usually does) they put good old UM back on. Call me an optimist, but I'll be suprised if Lifetime takes UM off altogether, or if its off for very long. You would think if Lifetime does abandon UM that some other cable network would be willing to put it on the air.

Brent88

Nope... after Next Friday, it's gone from Lifetime. I'm sure of this... unless they change it.

They could always bring it back later... I'm not very hopeful about that, but at least for now, it is gone.
