I know that Sanford and Son was based on the English TV show, "Steptoe and Son." My question is in regards to Aunt Ester. Was there a similar character (i.e., a sister in law) in the original English tv show that Aunt Ester's character was based on? If so, was she a "Bible Thumper," so to speak? Or was the character of Aunt Ester a totally brand new character which had no equivalent in Steptoe and Son????
