I don't think they ever did, but they got punished for doing some stupid stuff, though.

Cosby taught with love and talking, not with his fists.

Spankings are not given with the fists. Hitting your child with your fist is considered child abuse.

No, the Cosby kids never got spanked. At least I don't remember. The parents did alot of talking to the kids.

I disagree. A punch with the fist goes straight to the bone. A belt stings the skin.

They usually got punished by BOTH parents so there were no loopholes in their punishments!!

Why do some people consider corporal punishment child abuse? What I consider child abuse is letting your kid run wild and do whatever he wants to do without any consequences whatsoever. Disciplined children become self-disciplined adults.

Show me some studies that spanked kids become self-disciplined adults. How a kid turns out depends on a lot more than that. I am sure there are many spanked kids who become abusive parents...

ANYWAY... to take this back to the original topic, I believe that the closest they ever got to a spanking on The Cosby Show was in the sixth season, in the last scene of the episode where Vanessa and her friends went on their trip to Baltimore to see the Wretched.

Vanessa said, "I'd like my punishment before I go to bed." Clair looked like and made steps like she was about to go over and deck Vanessa, but Cliff stopped her.

In the end on that episode, most Clair did was yell at Vanessa, ending with, "For all I know, you are lying, GO TO BED!" But that's about the closest they ever got to corporal punishment.

That's why I said "go over and deck Vanessa" vs. simply "spank" Vanessa. I have a feeling that Clair would have at that moment had no problem ripping Vanessa limb by limb.

I just saw that episode the other night. I don't think I've ever seen Clair get that mad. :lol: Not that she didn't have reason to. Anyways, I've never seen them spank the kids. Like everyone else on here has been saying, alot of talking and punishments is the most I've ever seen. Too bad real life isn't like T.V. huh!!!
