Author George Plimpton, who also had an acting career, has died.

Mr. Plimpton played Dr. Greyson, the psychiatrist who counsels Brian after his breakup with Alex in the episode "The Shrink". Later in that episode, Dr. Greyson ended up counseling the then-engaged couple of Joe and Helen while he was TRYING to leave for vacation.

Mr. Plimpton was quite good in that episode...and he was yet another "guest" character who the "Wings" gang managed to drive NUTS!

He was on The Simpsons and ER too. How sad. It seems so many celebrities are dying lately.

I met him once about 13 years ago here in Dallas. This would have been before his Wings appearance. Very nice man & I remember thinking then how frail he looked--he was tall & lean. I had previously read one of his books, "Paper Lion", as a kid & had seen the movie version of it starring Alan Alda portraying Plimpton, so I knew who he was.

Not to be a name dropper, but before Bush was President & Texas Governor, he was owner of the Texas Rangers pro baseball team here in Dallas and his seats were in the first row right next to the team's dugout. We sat behind him and George Plimpton was his guest at one game.

It is a shame, George Plimpton was an excellent sports writer. Paper Lion was great.

He wouldn't be Martha Plimpton's father, would he? You know the blonde girl with glasses in Goonies and a bunch of other 80s teen movies. I think she does mainly theatre now.
