I just read on the internet that the singer, Robert Palmer, "Addicted to Love" has died of a heart attack at the age of 54!!

He was such a talented performer and seemed to be a really nice guy. This succession of losses in the entertainment world is continuing.

I give my heartfelt sympathy and prayers to his family and friends.

I remember back in the 80's when "Addicted to Love" came out; I think I was still in high school... That video or one of his other videos (can't remeber which) has Robert singing with all these women behind him. The women are all dressed the same and made up the same, and they are all dancing with a bored look on their faces! I thought the video was kinda cheesy at first, but it's a classic now!

Too many people are dying too young. This is getting creepy.

Also the actor who played Whitey on "Leave it to Beaver" died. He, too was 54. As was John Ritter. And Johnny Cash was 71, so was Gordon Jump!

So sorry to hear about him. So many are passing on here lately that I am having trouble remembering who is living & who isn't...

It is sad to hear of so many entertainers dying and some so young. There gifts that they have given us in this world will live on forever in our hearts and minds. I try not to experience saddness regarding there deaths. Because with there creativity there are along with everyone else up there, are in Heaven and they are having a party!

It is a part of life and being human that ties us all together, doesn't it (death). Whether we are big stars or just ordinary people, we all have death in our future. Besides all of these people who were stars that I admired, I had a former student lose her grandmother very unexpectedly this past week, too. She was like a mother to this girl, since she had raised the girl from birth. I went to the funeral and the pastor said something rather profound that I think we should always remember when someone, anyone dies who touches us.
He recalled the story of the great Italian composer Giacomo Puccini who wrote such classic operas as Madame Butterfly and La Boheme. He contracted cancer rather young in his life and was busy composing the opera that would be his crowning masterpiece, Turandot. His friends and students asked him to slow down and not work himself so hard, but he was insistant that this opera be finished. He charged them with the responsibility of completing the work if he were to die before it was finished. Well he did die before it was completed. The pastor said that the friends and students of the master had two choices before them when he died, they could forever be in mourning for the great man, or they could do what he had asked of them, complete his unfinished work. They thankfully chose the latter. When the great conductor, Arturo Toscanini, conducted the first performance of Turandot at La Scala in Milan, Italy, at the point in the opera where Puccini died, he turned to the audience and with tears in his eyes he said, "this is where the master laid down his pen and died". Then after a few moments of silence, he raised his head and smiled at the audience in the packed opera house and said, "and this is where his friends took up his pen and finished the opera", and proceeded to conduct the rest of the opera. I thought it was a fitting testamony to how we decide to carry on the memory of those we love and admire when they are snatched from us in death. I always like to think that I remember Freddie's memory by continuing to bring joy into peoples lives the way he did.

Rest in peace, all who have entertained us and made our lives a little more fun. You have shared a great gift with us and we will not let the gift die with you.....
