TvLand just showed the 3-part Hawaii episode the last 2 nights. It was fun, but god, it was So corny how they kept playing the Hawaii 5-O theme music everytime you saw the cops.

I wish I could ask people a bit older than myself if they thought it was corny back then too. Or did most people think it was "cool"?

And how 'bout when the 2 cops were on the beach spying on the thieves...in full suits, ties & shoes! (Not to mention seeing Lamont in swim trunks, sneakers & high socks) Oh man...

The one thing I kept my eye open for in that episode was the dumb/sexy red-head- Barbara Rhoades. Wow! ;)

I think just about all of that three part episode is pretty stupid. Remember that this was year 5 of the show and most of the episodes were not nearly up to par with years 1-4. Yes, that part of the two cops on the beach was funny. I was thinking the same thing about their attire too. The use of the Hawaii 5-O music and references were a bit overdone. I was suprised they were allowed to do it since Hawaii 5-O was a CBS show and S&S was on NBC. Some bits were funny though like Fred on the airplane (did you see the size of those headsets...gigantic), fighting with the lady about the restroom and Fred at the pool insulting the asian man. He put Fred in his place. I loved the way he turned on his side away from the man. The parts however of them driving all over Honolulu was really lame. Overall just a average 3 parter.

Yeah, I'd agree. Weak episode overall. And how 'bout Don Ho's cameo & that high energy show he delivered?! He looked like they hadda drag him out to do it! And he said "Ok- all the grandfathers!" And Lamont ends up on stage! ???

. . . this going to Hawaii 3 part set always gets my stomach upset. It is pretty bad, IMHO. It is interesting to speculate, though, as to exactly why this show is bad. In other words, if this 3 part set of episodes was filmed in earlier seasons, would it had made any difference. Are these episodes bad because they were filmed in a weak season to begin with or is it the case that the idea to begin with was just bad? I don't like any of these "theme" episodes, to be honest. This Hawaii set, the episodes where Fred goes to Las Vegas, the episode where Fred is talking about the medals he "won" in the war.

I agree, those three are in my least favorite list. Add the circus episode and junk artist one to it. The show got too outlandish. It was much better when it was just the daily lives of those living in Watts. The Las Vegas one is probably my very least favorite.

Lotsa bad episodes mentioned above alright.
So have we got a consensus on when S&S jumped the shark? That 'General Patton" one is a strong contender. (is that the same one with the WWII medals he brags about?)

. . . is the same one as when Fred talks about winning the medals and then they leads into a dream sequence where Fred (et al.) are taken back in time to WWII and Fred (et. al.) are spies in Germany, etc., etc., etc.
I agree that the show was at its' best when it revolved around "daily life" at their little junk yard in Watts. Everyday situations, normal routine, average friends, etc., etc. Personally, I think that this is what draws people to enjoy these types of shows---i.e., the fact that these appear to be average, normal people living out average routine lives. In other words, people can identify with average people living average, normal lives. What people can not identify with is (at least, I can't, anyway!!!
:happyface ) is, for example, being sent over to Hawaii on an all expenses paid vacation and then being chased by theives and gangsters trying to get my suitcase full of stolen diamonds!!!! LOL! LOL!  :happyface :talk: I noticed the same thing about the Brady Bunch episodes where they went to Hawaii, for example. I mean how many people can identify with being tied up by a mad man living in a cave with wooden idols??? Although, IMHO, the Brady Bunch in Hawaii episodes were somewhat better than the Sanford and Son episodes in Hawaii.
