Ever wonder what Freddie would be up to if we were lucky enough to have him with us?

In the poll I chose other as my vote because Freddie was such a multitalented guy ewho in interviews and thins said he wanted to do different things.
I wouldn't have been surprised to see him make a singing album, do broadway(he was a great dancer)
Maybe even trying a hand at writing as he kept journals, and he no doubt would have done more TV, movies and maybe some behind the camera and set stuff as well

...for similar reasons, Joy. Now that you mention it, I could see Freddie writing a poignant and funny autobiography based on his journals. It could have served as a cautionary tale on the dangers of early fame and drugs, as well as the difficulty of making a comeback (if that is really how things would have been in the 70's for a big star who went into rehab, though I am not so sure).

As for Broadway, I could see him as the lead in "Phantom of the Opera" and "Jekyll and Hyde", as well as Rum Tum Tugger in "CATS". Also in some revivals of old shows like "My Fair Lady" (as the character Freddie--Eliza's rich suitor--strangely enough hee hee!) and "Camelot" (as Lancelot).

I can imagine him directing TV and movies, making records of his own songs, and producing albums for others, too.

I voted other, because I could see him writing for and directing other latino stars in sitcoms today... like George Lopez. I really think he would lend a lot to the current sitcoms. I bet he would guest star in them occasionally too.

I know he would do things like Broadway and movies. He was such a great talent.

I could see him doing everything-- singing, dancing, movies, tv shows, Hollywood Squares, directing, hosting a talk show. & he would be great in all of them. Our phone is still out so I am posting at the library. This is getting old...

I voted other, because Freddie could do anything he set his mind to. :D

I voted acting in movies!

I can just see him doing action movies alongside John Travolta, (just like Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, I think it was, paired up to make action movies!)

They would have made a great team!

I fear he would have gotten burned out and become reclusive. Celebrity is tough for alot of people to deal with.

I have some other wild and funky ideas what he could be doing but that would be just a wee bit off topic here. Hee hee!

no one thinks he would have turned do-gooder and focused on social injustices, etc. ?

Joy
09-29-2003, 10:21 AM
well in a way he was a do gooder because he had a big heart and helped his friends and family, he bought his parents a new home and he was very generous. wanting his friends and family to have what they needed and wanted.
I don't know about social issues but i wonder if he ever performed at benefits and telethons etc?

MariposaLKB
09-29-2003, 10:22 AM
...yes, I can imagine Freddie doing something that had to do with charities, like maybe performing on Jerry Lewis's telethon or setting up some sort of foundation for Latino youth. He obviously had a generous heart.

I think I might've read somewhere where he appeared yrs ago in something like an Easter Seals telethon. If I'm wrong I know someone will correct me. :)

I honestly don't think he would have burned out or become a recluse. He was too talented for that and had way too much energy. He loved performing and would not have become an old has been 70's star. He could do it all and was determined and very hard working. His problems were more personal than professional I think. Oh well...only speculating.

I agree macca, as you read Maria's book you find that hius mind was always working thinking of what to do next and how to make what he wanted happen.
There was no recluse in Freddie Prinze Sr.
He liked his solitude from time to time but don't we all?

Hi. I'm new to this post. I recently caught the tail end of a biography of Freddie. Can anyone tell me what happened to him. I saw something on E! and it was called 101 shocking moments in entertainment. He was one of them, but like I said I only caught the tail end of it. Thanks.

Hi and welcome aboard.
It's really hard to answer the question that you ask, but here's at least an attempt to shed some light on the subject. Freddie was a groundbreaker in the comedy field. He made a name for himself and was one of the biggest television heartthrobs of his day and all of it was before his 22nd birthday. Unfortunately, talented and determined as he was, several things got in his way from becoming the even bigger star that he dreamed of and one January night he ended all of his pain. By ending his pain, he caused shock waves throughout the country because no one could believe when they heard the news. He always seemed so happy as the carefree "Chico" that few people noticed that he was not as "at ease" as he should have been. He left behind a wife and son and many adoring fans who have not forgotten him. They all want to see his memory as the joker and happy go lucky guy they all fell in love with continue. I hope this at least helps to answer your question.

Wow. That's soooo sad. You have to wonder what happens in a persons life like Freddie's to take it like that. I mean, I'm hearing he was an amazing actor and man. He had a wife and baby, what goes through their heads to want to end it all and leave a life that you have been led to. These kind of things are always on my mind. I always keep asking "why". Do you know anything about his personal life that would make him want to end it. It sounds like he had it all. I have a baby, and can't imagine leaving him no matter what happened to me in life. I just wonder what drives people, Freddie, to do things like that. Can I just ask, did he overdose or something else.
Thanks for the input. I'm just curious why such good people like Freddie decide to end it like that.

Hi,
I'm going to try to answer your questions as best I can. Just keep in mind that Freddie was only 22 yrs old when he died. He was in the throws of a nasty divorce and was told he couldn't see his child any longer. Whether all that was justified...who knows..I think you had to there. He was devastated because he had always wanted a child of his own and was very proud to be a father. Freddie was not only fighting a drug habit but also depression. Back then, you kept the depression part to yourself..unless you wanted your career to end. Anyway..he took his own life while under the influence of drugs. Whether it was intentional or simply because he wasn't thinking clearly that night..only Freddie knows the answer. As sad as his life ended....we here on the boards choose to celebrate his life instead of mourn his death. He made a lot of people happy and from personal accounts that we have read, he had a heart of gold...always tender and caring with his fans. Please visit us here often. We love new members.

Oh my God, why was his wife soooo mean to him. I can't even imagine what he was going through. He was so young. It's so wierd that his son is now famous. It's cool though that he took to his father's footsteps. I wonder if his mother ever told him everything. How long was he married. Why would she keep him from his own son. They did say on that show I saw that he was a great man in his time, so why did he have to marry such a jerk. I wonder if he took his life by mistake, what a tragedy. There are so many "what if's" it really makes you wonder about stories like this, doesn't it. I wonder if she ever felt guilt in any of this. Is she famous or someone I might have heard of? Thanks for responding to me by the way.

There are so many unanswered questions. I have no idea what happened...only Freddie and Kathy know those answers. I'm sure the drugs had a lot to do with the break up. The sad thing was...is that Freddie needed help and no one seem to be able to give that to him at the time. His mother wrote a book after his death called "The Freddie Prinze Story." He loved Maria very much, so you may be able to find more answers there. It's hard for me to be fair about all this..because I'm such a fan. So I would rather focus on the good things he gave me and so many others and not question the sadness so much. I can't change that..but I can enjoy his work on CATM and so many of the other shows he appeared on. He was extremely talented and so mature for his age. I hope you have the opportunity to find some of the old CATM shows and have a sit down and see what I'm talking about. Thanks for posting. Hope this helps????

Well, the truth is that a gun was the way he ended his pain. His death has been reclassified as accidental after his mother and wife sued the doctors. It was such a blow to the Hollywood community and it served as a wakeup call for several people caught in a trap like he was.
No, his wife was not famous and she left Hollywood after his death. She was not thrilled when Freddie Jr decided that he wanted to try acting, but she knew it was in him and she relunctantly let him go. He says that he went around and tried to learn about his father's life in Hollywood, but it seems like he got a very confusing account At any rate, he is slowly coming to terms with the situation and hopefully he will come around more.

I hope that this little discussion has helped you in your quest to find the real Freddie. So many myths still run rampant about him, as happens with entertainers who leaves us too soon and aren't here to defend themselves. He wanted to be remembered as a guy who made people happy and forget their problems for a little while and the nice ladies here are determined to do just that for their Dark Angel.

From what I read Kathy didn't like how he was doing the pills & his obsession with the guns & was afraid it might hurt Jr. What she didn't realize is that kjeeping the baby away from him hhurt him even more & caused him to do more pills. I read where she said (& I think she said this on the E TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY) that he would look like he'd almost stopped breathing & she had to turn him over to make sure he was alive. Honey that was a sign that she needed to get him help immediately! But she didn't & that really bugs me. :( I wonder if she really cared being she ignored that medical problem. It's all so sad...

Since Freddie tried his hand in directing one of the CATM episodes, I wonder if he would have tried directing or producing some movies that starred Freddie Jr. I think he would have been so proud of Jr. that he would have helped him or even teamed up with him to do some things. I'm sure that Freddie Jr. would have loved and been very proud of his dad too. I can see Sr. in alot of comedy related things too like hosting the "Tonight show" or at least still doing shows in Las Vegas. I know Freddie would NOT have become a recluse. He was too multi-talented and energetic for that.

Our phone is back on! I can get on the internet at home once again & no more going to the library every day. Woo-hoo!

I had a dream about Freddie the other nite. In it all of us from the boards here were trying to contact Freddie from the dead & Luckymama was the mediator. She got in touch with Freddie & asked him different questions we were all dying to know like why did he do it & did he regret comitting suicide. He appeared to us all & said he was sorry he did what he did & didn't meanto but he felt no one cared about him other than his Mom. He said he could tell we all cared about him & would've helped him back then if we'd known him. He said if he'd known us back then then maybe he wouldn't have killed himself & he was so happy we were all keeping his name alive. We could all see him next to Luckymama up in the air next to her kind of floating but still. He looked cute too... Wow, I wonder if he was trying tell me something in this dream...

OMG Cheryl, it is funny you having that dream. I had one last night that involved my wanting more answers to what had happened and going on a mad search for Freddie's ellusive journal. I scoured the country looking for it and then Joy got to talking to Maria about my search. Then Maria died and a few weeks later I get this mysterious package in the mail. It was the journal! Maria had left it to me in her will, asking that I would publish it, but have all the profits go to diabetes research, of which she is currently battling. The letter that Maria wrote me told me that Joy had told her about my search and that I would be a good one to have it and I would make sure her wishes were carried out about the publishing. I even dreamed that I took it to the local book printing company in the next town from here to get them to do the job!

THIS IS TOO WEIRD!!!!

Hey everyone!
Well, if you haven't heard, there's a new DVD coming out this Tuesday called The Original Latin Kings Of Comedy. It is supposed to have Paul Rodriguez, Cheech Marin, and George Lopez. Couldn't you just see Freddie in all this too? :D
