View Full Version : Isabel's Emmy nominations...
Does anyone think she deserved more than one Emmy for her work on this show? Personally, I do. She was nominated many times, more than any other single actor I think. She was first nominated in 1979, won in 81, and got a nomination every year till 1985, the shows last season, which I think is a pretty cool thing. What does everyone think?
lil_weezy 09-23-2003, 11:48 AM I totally agree. She should of won each time.
Weezy.... :yourock:
but at least she was recognize. I am so proud of her.
:woohoo:
Mr. Television 09-23-2003, 11:53 AM I think many of the actors should have been nominated. Its a crime that Sherman Hemsley never won an emmy but George Jefferson is one of the best remembered sitcom characters.
lil_weezy 09-23-2003, 11:55 AM That's true too. He should of one too. No one could ever duplicate him.
In my opinion, he was the :king: of comedy back then.

I really don't know why Isabel Sanford was nominated. What was entertaining about the Louise Jefferson character? But the George Jefferson character was wild like you mentioned. Especially in 1975.
Brian Damage 09-23-2003, 08:21 PM I agree. Louise was kind of a bland character.
lil_weezy 09-24-2003, 11:47 AM Not true about Weezy.
Without her character, George wouldn't have been as funny.

I don't recall any funny Louise/George scenes. I only remember
Funny George/Florence scenes
Funny George/Bentley scenes
Funny George/Tom and Helen scenes
Funny George/Lionel scenes
There were only two characters that were not funny in the presence of George
1.Ralph the Doorman
2.Louise
She was nominated because she has fine acting ability, and a true "presence" on the show. Actors usually aren't nominated just because of the characters they play, but they WAY they play those characters, and Isabel was top notch. However, in 84 & 85, she lost to Jane Curtin for Kate & Allie, and I think that was totally acceptable - Jane is awesome!

Louise Jefferson added no humor to the show
THE END Sitcom Analyzer
Oh come on, that's so unfair! Louise was just as big a part of this show as George!
lil_weezy 10-06-2003, 03:46 PM :thanks: bb25
for agreeing with me!!!
Your welcome! I hate when people make hasty generalizations like that...Louise was like a breath of fresh air. Without her, there wouldn't have been a show or George would have just gone crazy...
But anyway, Isabel's still a great actress and added more to this show than some people will ever know...
Mr. Television 10-06-2003, 11:38 PM Isabel's a great actress. Sometimes its hard to appreciate someone when there the straight person in a comic duo. Sherman wouldn't have been as funny without Isabel to play off of.
Exactly! Same can be said about Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance/Gale Gordon...she just wouldn't have been Lucy without them!
