View Full Version : The Emmy's Tribute To John Ritter
Nanny Fine 09-21-2003, 10:49 PM Wow, that was really really REALLY sentimental.
I started crying when Henry Winkler was talking, when they started showing the clips of John.
Then I started to laugh! In the middle of crying! at the skits they were showing!
John Ritter was an amazing AMAZING man. I'm glad they dedicated a bit on this show to him.
Mr. Television 09-21-2003, 10:51 PM I just saw it. I think Henry Winkler did very well .
Krisalicious 09-21-2003, 10:53 PM It was sad, but I was expecting it to be longer..*shrug*

Yes very well composed.
I wonder the scene they showed with John and Jamie Lee Curtis, where he leaned to kiss her, she moved and he ended up putting his face in the dish of whatever, what show was that?
And what show was it that he was trying to rinse his shampooed hair in the back of the toilet?! That was the one that made me bust out laughing!
It takes someone special to make a crying moment a laughing moment at the very same time.

Everything is kept to such a time limit on these shows I dont think they could have made it any longer unfortunately.
I did catch a John Ritter Tribute on VH1 today too that was really well done.
But this one at the Emmy's was one of the best I think, even as short as it was.
It really caught me.

Fleet 09-21-2003, 10:59 PM What part of the show is John Ritter's tribute?

it's in the final 20 minutes of the show. They follow it by a memorium for the other actors/actresses/directors/etc that have passed away in 2003.
Fleet 09-21-2003, 11:11 PM O.K., thanks for the answer.
I don't want to miss it, but I don't want to record the whole show, either.
Henry Winkler made me cry - you could see he was putting on a brave face, but he was holding back tears as he spoke. :(

It's already over, and it was done live from California. Are they gonna show it again?
Unwanted Angel 09-21-2003, 11:20 PM So i guess Joyce was not there was she?

It's running right now. 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM PDT.
weird. i guess they don't show it live in California, cuz it ended at 11pm here (it's now 12:30)
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 09-22-2003, 01:08 AM Do you know how P.O'd I am?! Amanda and her mother begged me to come back after I set the tape to play cards, but I knew my tape would cut short about 10 minutes. Leave it to the Emmys to save it for the end. Meangya, they mentioned it the whole night! :cuss: They just started showing clips when the tape ended. Im P.O'd to know end because I knew the tape would end and that was the thing I wanted to see. Does anyone know if theres a website where you can DL it or watch it?

The only awards show that they show live in California is the Academy Awards. All others are tape-delayed.
Josh9125 09-22-2003, 02:19 AM I wanted to cry
DarleneIllyria 09-22-2003, 02:46 AM I started crying during the clips. Even though it was a short tribute, it was still beautiful.
It's funny, most of the awards shows are broadcast from L.A., yet we RARELY get anything live. The damn networks are always catering to that, damn, east coast! DAMN YOU, EAST COAST!peace:
And, yes, it was a very touching tribute.

Well holy crapola if that's true it's not our fault the time zones are 3 hours apart.
They know no one is going to watch if they wait to start airing it until 11 p.m. live, it's too late here.
webuster 09-22-2003, 12:31 PM The Emmy's didn't start till almost Midnight in the UK on E!- they repeat the Academy Awards (unfortunately they also repeated alot of Joan River's live from the red carpet)- hopefully I'll see the Emmy's on some channel. I also just remembered yesterday what else I remembered John Ritter in, and laughing- he was in an episode of The Ellen Show (I've got it on tape too) playing a self-felp guru who's really just ripping people off and he has these assistants that are like playboy bunnies and ellen's sister joins them- 'twas hilarious.
animalcrackers 09-22-2003, 12:37 PM I was so happy the John's best friend, Henry did the tribute. I wonder what happen to the rumored Suzanne, Joyce reunion? It was kind of a short tribute. All the stupid commercials were ticking me off.

Yeah!!!!! Calgon, take me away NOW!!!! No, better yet, take me away to the 80's where it was all gameshow and sitcoms-orientated.
Penny Lane 09-22-2003, 03:27 PM I missed it! :(

Very true.
I saw it, and taped it, too. I really liked it, as sad as it made me feel. I didn't cry, though, I think it's better to stay happy and remember how great of a person her was. :)
webuster 09-23-2003, 01:57 PM The Emmy's were played in the UK again last night, but only on satellite- which I don't have upstairs-and when I was watching everyone kept complaining (the rest of my family watching hate american humour, I dunno why-they'd just rather hear obnoxious Scottish men swearing and mooning people) so I missed the John Ritter part (I also really wanted to see if Ellen did anything- did she??) also- did anyone else think that Jim Belushi sounded very different at the emmy's?

I agree with that too.
I'm still not over John's death (I doubt I ever will be). The Emmy tribute, though it should have been longer, was really sad, yet funny. I was sitting there laughing and crying. It would have been even more touching if the cast of 8 simple rules, or threes company was there. :(
(BTW- I missed the tribute to John that was played on ABC last Tuesday, though I taped the one hour ET on VH1, or was it MTV?, episode about John. Does anyone know if they will be re-airing it sometime? I'm so mad that I missed it! )
