Congratualtions to Tony Shaloub for winning his first emmy tonight

yeah, I just happened to look at the TV, and Tony was giving his acceptance speech.
YAY!! Congrats to Tony!!

I'm very glad he won. I love Monk.

I'm very happy for Tony....I just wish that he could have won the award during a happier time in his personal life.

You could just SEE the pain in poor Tony's face as his eyes filled with tears and his voice trembled as he dedicated his Emmy to his young nephew who passed away earlier this week.

I think that it says a LOT about Tony that during his acceptance speech he put his show and career on the back burner and concentrated his comments on his family.

I liked Tony Shalhoub as an actor before....now I respect and admire him as a person.

I'm glad he won. Tony is a talented actor. His acceptance speech was very emotional, and it was evident he was in a lot of pain, the poor guy.

I'm going to have to give Monk a try. My sister always told me it was funny.

I was very surprised when he won, but that's excellent! I've heard that Monk is really good. I just found it hard to actually believe that USA was capable of making a good show. I saw it once, but I don't think I was paying close enough attention. All in all it seemed like kind of a sad Emmys.

While we're at it, we should also mention that Tim Daly's sister Tyne won an Emmy for her regular role on "Judging Amy"....

Someday I hope to see Brother Tim running up those steps to accept HIS Emmy!

I'm glad he won, although it's a shame it wasn't for Wings.

I'm usually against the Emmys. No one I ever like gets nominated for anything, so I gave up on them years ago. However, when I turned to E! I saw Tony sitting with an interviewer holding his emmy. I was very happy. I've only seen "Monk" once, but it was more just the fact that Tony Shalhoub (Our own Tony Shalhoub) won. It didn't matter what he won for. I wasn't aware of his loss earlier this week. That's a shame. I'm glad Tony Shalhoub didn't get typecast as Antonio Scarpacci. Although now when they mention him, they'll say "And from Monk ... Tony Shalhoub" instead of "And he used to co-star in Wings ... Tony Shalhoub."

Enough rambling. If by some chance, Tony, you're veiwing these posts, congratulations. You're one of the best. :)

I don't pay attention to awards show, especially the Emmys, either. They usually seem to be more of a popularity contest than awarding true talent. I didn't bother watching last Sunday. I was pretty sure Ray Romano or one of the Friends cast members would win. My mom told me the next morning that Tony had won. I'm happy for him, although I've tried watching Monk and I really don't understand the appeal. (Of course, I'm not a fan of homicide investigation shows like that.) It's great to see someone from Wings finally getting the attention and respect they deserve. I'll always think of him as Antonio.

I wonder if Antonio and Monk would get along if they met each other :lol:

What happened to his nephew? I didn't hear anything about that.

I just found this on one of our local tv station websites, as many of you already know Tony is originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin, which is about 40 miles North of my current hometown ... :)

It was a crowning achievement for a Green Bay native. Tony Shaloub won a best-actor Emmy Sunday night for his leading role in the comedy series "Monk" on the USA Network.

The award came at a very hard time for Shaloub and his family. His newphew, 34-year-old Gregg Gensler of Green Bay, died the day before from what the family described as the sudden onset of an acute illness. Much of Shaloub's acceptance speech centered around his nephew.

"I want to dedicate this," he said, "to my nephew Gregg, who was taken from us so suddenly this week, and this was a young man of unbelievable strength, a warm laugh, and a good heart."

Shalhoub planned to return to Green Bay this week for his nephew's funeral, relatives said.

Shaloub graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1972. As the saying goes, everyone has to start somewhere. His acting career began in the senior class play, "George Washington Slept Here."

"There's the cast shot. Tony's right over there," Roger Lawyer showed us.

Lawyer directed Shaloub in his first play, casting him as a farmer. "Everybody says, 'Well, you must have taught him something,' and I always say, 'Well, he's probably forgotten what I taught him, fortunately.'"

"It was really a surprise. A gem-in-the-rough type of thing," classmate Bob Villwock remarked. Villwock is a dentist today, but 31 years ago he shared the stage with Shaloub. He remembers Shaloub as fun-loving and full of energy.

"You could say some of his best acting might have been done off stage. I think he had a lot of fun in high school," Villwock remembered.

Shaloub was the class vice-president, and very active at East High. Now that he's famous, administrators hope he will be an inspiration to today's students.

"With Tony winning the Emmy last night, it gives others here at East High School, our students, a chance to strive for that kind of success," principal Jack Washington said.

Shaloub is one of ten children of the late Joseph and Helen Shaloub.

I'm so happy that Tony won an Emmy...congrats to Tony! That's so sad about his nephew...I remember during his acceptance speech, I missed the part where he mentioned his nephew, and I wasn't sure who he was talking about, but I gathered that it was someone in his family. My heart goes out to them.
