Today on KISW, they will be counting down the top 99 songs of that great and glorious year 1992--which means there will be tons of GRUNGE!! Oh, no, nothing wrong with grunge, it was just ironic because they just had the Top 99 Seattle songs the other week. But I'm hearing a lot of different songs on here now.

I cant wait for this list. I love grunge, but early 90's rock in general was great, so I'm looking forward to reading this countdown.

i havent heard KISW in a LOOONG time (i moved away from Seattle in '99) but i look through that list and the only stuff id still listen to today are Nirvana and Ozzy.
I thought '92 was kinda already on the downhill slide for metal; I liked Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Alice in Chains and Nirvana, but not the other grunge bands so much :( if they hadnt tried to turn the whole thing into such a fad, maybe people would've been able to just appreciate it for what it was...

Those are some of my personal favorites. Overall, awesome list. The top 10 are some of my favorite songs of all time (especially number 9). #51....I'd forgotten how much I loved that song until I read this list.

What part of the year did Countdown To Extinction come out in '92? - wasn't it LATE summer? If I remember right Symphony of Destruction and Foreclosure of a dream were the 2 big songs off it - but maybe they were popular too late in the year to make the '92 list...

It came out in prolly the fall of 1992, I saw them in November. It mightahave been out that summer. These song choices were voted on by KISW liste=ners.

good list, but I think of these songs as more 1990 (I remember both Civil War and Knockin On Heaven's Door getting tons of airplay in the summer 1990, over a year before Use Your Illusion came out) and 1991 than 92. Songs like Sandman and Poundcake are great, but both were on MTV in the summer of 1991 (ahhh, the old days)

Yeah, I noticed that too, about songs from Queensryche's Empire album and others that came out or charted the year or so before. "Empire" came out in the fall of 1990.

well, Anybody Listening was released to MTV in early 92. The vast majority of the songs on the list (Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Ozzy, Guns N Roses) were released in 1991, but most of those songs peaked in 1992, it's ones like Enter Sandman and Knockin On Heaven's Door (which came out in summer 90 and was all over radio then) that were off the chart by 92 began to makes me scratch my head.
