I bought season one of The Monkees on DVD earlier this week. Let me tell you why I'm so glad I did. Those of you who didn't see or record them back in the late 80's when they were on Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite may not know this. TV Land done some chopping up of the episodes. In episode #4 Your Friendly Neighborhood Kidnapper, there's a scene where Micky is on one side of this full length mirror and Mike is on the other. They both have phones and they do this little routine. TV Land cut out the end of that scene where they both looked around the mirror at each other and in unison said "We wait." I knew they had cut something out but I couldn't remember what till I got the box set season one dvd's. TV Land also cut out the interviews at the end of the shows that were about a minute short. <--That's how I felt knowing TV Land was cutting them up so. I knew they were being cut up because of when they were on Nickelodeon back in the 80's, I remembered places where there was more. I could tell they had been edited.
 Joke is on TV Land. Now everyone can see what all they cut out of the episodes in the summer of 2002 while they were on.

All old tv shows are edited, b/c today's shows are shorter to make more room for comercials. This is not unusual. It sucks, but it's very common. Every now and then, tv land will air unedited stuff. Like for Lucy's 50th anniversary, they aired uncut eppies of "I Love Lucy". I think they may have done it for "The Honeymooners", too.

I can understand why they have to cut the episodes, but it's annoying. It doesn't bother me so much with The Monkees, because I have all the uncut episodes, so I know what their skipping but I hate it on other shows. I can't wait for Season 2 and the uncut concert DVD to come out so I have something new to watch

Yeah, I think I know the general area. Don't think I've been there though...unless I was just passing through.
