I was talking with my mother about mother-in-laws on television. I mentioned that I thought Endora from "Bewitched" was the worst mother-in-law on tv. She begged to differ. She thought that Marie Barone from "Everybody Loves Raymond" was the worst. She said that she thought Marie was worse because when she treated her daughter-in-law like crap, she pretended to be nice about it. Endora didn't pretend anything she just flat-out hated her son-in-law. It's sort of hard for me to decide. There are a lot of episodes of Bewitched that I hated Endora in but I came to think that it was usually Darrin that caused her to be like that. Until I understand what my mother meant about Marie being worse on account of she pretends to be nice about it, I say Endora was worse. Sometimes she just really disgusts me. I'll have to watch more Everybody Loves Raymond episodes to decide.

I don't know...but I love Endora...maybe I'd pick her though since she turned Darrin into some kind of animal on numerous occasions.

I pick Marie. They were both mean but at least Endora didn't live across the street. I mean Endora was mean and then leave, but Marie always sticks around.

They're both pretty bad, but I'd be more afraid of Endora. Marie, I could learn to ignore, but Endora has magic powers!

Endora. For the simple reason I grew up watching "Bewitched" repeats. I haven't seen much of "Raymond", but whenever I think of Doris Roberts, I can't get past the sweet old lady image.

My choice is Marie Barone, no question about it!

Marie may be a nice, sweet, gentle old lady on the outside but on the inside, she is evil personified. Just ask her husband Frank!

On the contrary, Endora is the complete opposite: evil on the surface, gentle and loving underneath.

Endora's dislike for Darrin stems from the simple fact that he is a mortal and no mortal could ever be good enough for her daughter (except me, of course! :) ) . So she sets out to test him using her powers and he ends up passing her tests every time. Only when she realizes how much Darrin truly loves Samantha does she let up.

Marie, on the other hand, never lets up! She may seem very nice and gracious and always willing to help out her grandchildren and daughters-in-law, but her husband and sons always see right through her act for what she really is: a heavily (literally and figuratively) protective mother who remains unwilling to cut the apron strings and let her sons live their normal lives without any shred of maternal interference, which happens in nearly every episode. Her favorite trick is to create competition and foster guilt among her sons and daughters, which only leads to further problems, not that she ever takes the blame for them. It's no coincidence that she just happens to live next door.


No doubt about it, Marie is worse!
