Just out of sheer curiosity, what is everyone's fav brand of discontinued video tape?

-Scotch EG, EG+, HS
-Kodak
-Polaroid
-GoldStar
-BASF
-TDK STD, S-HG, Hi-Fi
-Maxell Gold, Silver, Bronze
-SKC (kinda rare)
-Memorex HG
-Fuji S-HG
-VeraTron, Universal, etc..

I'd have to say mine is Scotch. I have a few recordings of Small Wonder on a Scotch 3M tape that must be 13 years old that still plays better than some of the recordings I've made lately, it's amazing. Even in EP mode the quality has lasted for over a decade. Most of our old home videos and home recordings are on Scotch as well, it was the brand my parents primarily bought, Memorex & GoldStar being 2nd and 3rd...anyone else?

Something interesting...go find an old Scotch or GoldStar tape on your shelf. Also pick up a cheap new Sony you just bought...feel the difference...;)

BASF was good. And I agree, Scotch is excellent. The old tapes were so muc heavier and better quality. You're right, those tapes still look better after 10 years than tapes recorded last week.

Scotch and Avanti. I still have a ton of scoth tapes that I can reuse, and they last about 2 1/2 h in SP. The Avanti brand I purchased for $1 at Aldi's grocery and I recorded my soap in slp mode. Its been almost 15 yrs and the quality is excellent! Blows my mind.
