MUST YOU RUB IT IN MICKEY????? I'm one year older than Lucie Arnaz, 53 to be exact. So, as Milton Berle used to always say, i have ties older than most of you people! LOL! The good news is i was there when the original shows were on, not the reruns like you guys.

We're not talking LOOKS here, we're speaking of maturity dear boy! I have never seen the lady, but she writes so well that i thought she had to be so much more mature to have that kind of writing capability! Ok, did i get myself out of that one Mick?

Coupling is ghastly, unless you're talking about the American remake - in which case I can't comment! I'm totally down on British comedy at the moment. Trevor's World Of Sport is good, but has been killed off by the BBC. Too good, you see. It worries them if they start broadcasting real quality. The Book Group is excellent, but hasn't been selling well abroad. Too weird, they say. And Manchild, which is terrific, if you actually get the joke.

But Coupling? Ugh.

Well, we're glad to have you back, and front too! Mickey, coupling's British original is not good? I was dying to see it because they said it pushed the envelope, i'm so sick of the sameness of TV lately.

Mickey
09-19-2003, 04:59 PM
I haven't noticed any envelope pushing. Mind you, the critics said Will And Grace pushed the envelope, and I haven't noticed that, either. I haven't seen much of Coupling though. I gave up pretty quick.

If you want envelope pushing, maybe Manchild is the one. It's about four guys just hitting fifty (rare enough as is on youth obsessed TV). They want to be cool, and try to pull young women, and a lot of it is (intentionally) very embarrassing, but it's very funny too. If you can get around Tony Head doing the housework nude it's more than worth it :) . A lot more inventive than Coupling, I'd say. Just my opinion though.

Yeah, the American Coupling. Which to me looks like a rehashed Friends with lesser known people. Rena Sofer is in it...she hasn't done a decent TV show yet. I mean, we can't do on American TV what the British version does! So what envelope are they going to push?

Hey guys, now that we all have season one, what are some of the funniest episodes in season one? My favorites are: "The Freezer", "Ricky Thinks He's Going Bald", "The Seance", and of course, "Lucy Does A TV Commercial". To add on to that, I think the pilot for I Love Lucy was better than the makeover for the pilot, which was "The Audition". What about you guys??

Mickey
09-25-2003, 05:27 AM
I love the original pilot, but then I love it when Ricky gets the giggles! Being very interested in how TV shows are made, I love the chance to get to see a rough draft like that anyway.

Favourite episodes in the season. I'm going to forget some I know, but: The Girls Want To Go To A Nightclub, Lucy Is Jealous Of Girl Singer, Breaking The Lease and the one where Lucy thinks Ricky is getting tired of her are all favourites of mine. Men Are Messy is pretty good too.

Crazyredhead, it's not that i don't want to make one for you, it's just that i've gotten burned too many times with some people asking for a tape and after i've sent it they never come on the boards again which really bothers me. So i figure the old timers will always be here or at least will stay longer, you know? Anyhoo, i just have some old things that i taped back in the early eighties when Lucy was still alive, tributes and awards, specials and guest appearances and talk shows and music videos that pay tribute, stuff like that.

Yes Dawson girl, as a matter of fact, i offered YOU a tape before anyone else on here, it was some old Rock Hudson Doris Day movies i think, you never replied, then again, you had no way of knowing back then. I was watching Desi jr on the Brady Bunch which someone sent me and thought of you right away, it's your era, isn't it?

Worse than that Mickey, i'd also need your address to send it. Mickey, i have been sending tapes for over a year or two and have never betrayed the confidence of any other Lucy fan, i mention someone's REAL name ONLY if they tell me it's ok. I know it's scary to post with people, then you find out the person you thought was in college is 12, but in that case, i sent the tape to that person's father instead, i'm here to help the legacy and fellow fans, not to ever cause trouble for anyone.

:) It's okay, it's not that I distrust you. I'm just joking really, although I've sorta become obsessed, I think, with my anonymity online. I love the fact that nobody knows who I am, or a lot of the time even what gender I am. Maybe it's something to do with coming from a tiny village where everybody knows everybody, and what everybody's been up to! I always wanted more anonymity, and out here I've got it. :)

I have given my address out before though; it's not something I'm bothered about really. Forgot my real name in that instance, mind, and my American friend posted something to me with nowt but my usual internet name (not Mickey) above the address. :) Amused the postman. She was a cheery sort (the American) who decided to send me a cardboard cut-out Ronald Reagan doll she'd found somewhere. It's hilarious. Comes in a little book, and he stands there doing the presidential wave, in his undies, with a selection of suits to dress him in. Nancy's there too, and a chimp, rather bizarrely, which I think is something to do with one of the films he made once.

Yes, a classic called Bedtime for Bonzo, it really captured his skills as an actor, though i wish he had stayed in that profession, the world would be a better place today if he had. Like Bette Davis used to say, his politics made his acting look GOOD!
