I used to watch That 70s Show since it reminded me of my teen years growing up in the 70s. However, I got tired of it because I don't like Kurtwood Smith's character, Red Foreman. He's mean, nasty, cranky, overbearing and doesn't treat his children well. Case in point, last night's syndicated episode when Eric and Hyde are grounded and Red starting carrying out ultra-strict house rules, annoying Kitty.

This is a comedy! I think Red is hillarious. Go watch the Cosby Show.

I agree with you somewhat. I had a dad like Red when I grew up. The difference was my dad got physical. Not a great memory.

Red is strict but NOT abusive (Okay maybe a little verbal), I think he might have spanked Eric when he was a little, but not Laurie. But he's not an abusive Father.

You gotta remember this was the 70's.
If my dad did the things to me in this day and age that he did to me when I was growing up he would be in jail now. Times are different now. What was acceptable back then isn't any longer. Red Forman is tame compared to my old man. Red's biggest problem is his yelling and he uses the words Dumbass and Son of a B***h way too much. But then again so does Fez. Why can't they do away with the foul language on this show. It's not that realistic to me. You never heard that type of language in homes then. If my old man heard me say W***e or B***h when I was growing up.....wham bam. Nuff said.
