I have read on other message boards that Tony Danza (Who's the Boss, Family Law) is the lead candidate to play a Male Lead Role on 8 Simple Rules. Rumors say he will be the brother of Katey Segal's character, making him an UNCLE.

Other candidate's making news are Henry Winkler (Happy Days), Ed O'Neil (Married With Children), Tim Allen (Home Improvement) and Mark Lynn Baker (Perfect Strangers).

Mark-Lynn Baker -- not good enough

Tim Allen -- would want to be a "star," not considerate enough

Ed O'Neil -- can't see it, because ABC would have a clean version of "Married... w/Children"

Henry Winkler -- Possible, but not as funny as I would like...

Other opinions, anyone...

New male lead role--- won't happen, the producers have said so themselves. Sorry, try again...

Since they're going on with 8 simple rules I really hope they will get Henry Winkler . Somehow it seems fitting that John's best friend would help the show John was so proud of go on. From all I heard of John's personality I think he'd want it that way.......

I really wouldn't consider Henry coming on the show a replacement. I'm thinking along the lines of Henry helping the show go on. No one and I mean no one could ever replace John.

Ed O'Neal is doing Dragnet.

Anyone who gets the role is going to be considered a replacement.

You don't want Tony Danza anywhere near this show.

Can you ever get this out of your head?:

Angela!
Samantha!
Mona!

Oh, God.

Yeah, that how I feel. I wasn't a huge fan of the show, but I would like to see Henry come in. John would have wanted it that way.

From what I've read & heard so far, they haven't decided on a male lead (& Henry seemed dumbfounded at the mention of his name being at the top of the list).

I couldn't really see Tim Allen or Tony Danza as they don't really fit the show. Ed O'Neill is busy with LA Dragnet (for now, anyway) & I highly doubt ABC would reunite a Fox show.

Henry Winkler was immediately first on my list, knowing his friendship with John, but I could also see Mark Linn-Baker. As much as I'd like to see Mark on another show (he may still be busy in NYC, though), I think Henry would fit better on the show.

And if ABC does decide on a new male lead, they won't serve as a replacement. They can't.

They would if they got the job.

I think the show is not going to replace and/or add a new male lead , but never say never. I do not think that a relacemnt shold be made, but I think that someone like Henry Winkler could make a couple of guest appearnces. It would be bittersweet though. He could make a guest appearance as a friend of Pauls or a relative who offers moral support to the family and only visits with the family on occasion. He would be a fitting support role since he really seems sincere in his sympathy for John Ritters Passing and how he says he is a rel friend. I think that he would respect his friend and never try to replace his character or take over the lead role

Henry Winkler - Just dont let him do the thumbs up Fonz act and he will be great, he will respect that it was/is John Ritters show and John is the lead whether hear physically or spiritually

Tim ALlen - Put him on Trading Spaces to replace that annoying Paige chic
I cannot see the daughter on 8 grunting and building a hot rod
Or you could put him on Monster Garage

Ed Oneil - Funny Man on Married, but all I could think about watching him on 8 would be the moment he sits on the couch with his hand in his pants...It would have been funny to have him make an appearance if John were still alive and they spoof Katey Sagals sitom past like they did the spoof on 3's or something to bring in the Al character but not now.

Mark Lyn whatever - At least if you brought him on the show it would make the son seem a bit smarter

Tony Danza - Was he the bitch boy or the boss?

Maybe...

Larry from 3's - he is used to working with the style John Ritter had and he knew him as a person (he could be the neighbor who hits on Katey Sagal - after much time passes and the show is ready for comedy again) but only a few episodes

John Goodman - I dont why but I just like him, I could see him bringing in the drama and comedy

Or you could have several of John Ritters past co-stars from his movies and/or TV do guest spots and add their own bit of knowledge of John to the show

Henry Winkler - He would have enough respect for J. Ritter being a close friend to not try to take over the lead but to be supportive
and keep in the spirit of John

BUT... learn from past mistakes and that most shows that try to bring in a new person to soon or at all makes the show loose its rating and viewers. I think they should let everyone get used to watching the show minus John and then when the initial shock wears off bring in a supporting person
