Some of you are probably wondering about my subject..and that's why you clicked on it. I wanted to know if, any of you would go to a boarding school if you were given the chance.

If you don't go to one: would you think your experience would be like Alex's. Blair, Jo, Tootie, Natalie's..ex.

Do you think you would be lonely or not? I was thinking about this while I was watching facts of life and thought I'd find out what you thought.

Take care,

I did not go to a boarding school so I'm not sure about this. However, when I went off to college it was devestating leaving my family behind. I think you would probably feel this way when you first went off to a boarding school. But once you make friends, you are not as lonely. This is assuming that the boarding school you are speaking of is one that you live at.
I'm not sure if when I was a teenager I would have accepted going off to a boarding school but I have always been for school uniforms. Uniforms take a lot of unnecessary pressure off kids, for example, how many times have you ever worried if someone would say something behind your back about what you were wearing that day?
I do think that it would be an interesting experience to grow up in a house full of your friends, you would certainly become more like a family, but it'd be really hard being away from your own family at such a young age.

I would love to live in a boarding school.I always thought it would be kool.Especialy if you, with your journalism buddy, kid friend with the name of an ice cream flavor,a rich snobish kid,and a new renegade kid from the bronx hot wired the school van and drove to the local bar and the van got totaled and you and your friends were put on probation and had to work in the school kitchen to repay the debt of the school van.

I'm going off to college soon, and I'm going to Chicago, but I live in Colorado. I think it would definately be hard leaving your family, but I also think that the first few days would be like you're going to summer camp until you realize that it's not just overnight for a few days, but for a YEAR! (Or four years, eight years, etc) I think it would be great fun getting to know new people, and I think if you make a lot of friends going to a boarding school, not only will they feel like family to you, you'll be friends for life! I've heard of all kinds of people who have been out of college (even high school, middle school, etc) who still talk to their old friends from school. I'd be psyked about going to a boarding school.

i've never gone to boarding school. i'm in my second year in College. So it would have been cool to have that have that kind of freedom when i was younger. i don't know if boarding school is really like it is on the Facts of life.

I went to private school, but it wasn't a boarding school. I did live in the dorms for a bit in college, and OMG... I cannot even begin to describe the experience. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Unfortunatly, as time marches on, all those "life long friendships" that I felt that I had developed went along the wayside. I guess it's all a part of growing up.

Anyhow, the stories I have to tell from my days of coed living are nothing short of extraordinary. They come out every now and then after I've had a glass of wine or two. My friends have convinced me to write them down, so I am currently working on a coed living memoir. I may post a link to a website if I can get past my issues with remaining anonymous.

I would have jumped at the chance to go to a boarding school!!! I begged my parents to let me go, but due to lack of dinero, I didn't. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif What I wouldn't of given to be on my own and have a chance at some independance!! (My parents were (still are!) extremely overprotective, !!)

I wouldn't mind going to a boarding school. My parents used it as a threat to get my grades back up (they went up but thats not why). I always thought it would be cool to live away from my parents. But i already got my schedual for 9th grade (i go next year). And i would miss all my friends i have now if i left. I wouldnt mind goin to a boardin school if i had to, but i like it here.

I went to a small, public high school and I was out of district. This was after spending K-8 at a parochial school. I'm a Junior in college and I love it. I wish I could've been in college right away and just skip the rest of school, so yes, I could see myself in boarding school. Boarding school was never really brought up and I'm not sure my Mom could've have handled sending my away at 14. Based on my college experience I would've done fine, but who knows. I do know two people in college who went to boarding school and they loved it.

I wanna go to a boarding school. I've been going to a public school my whole life and I HATE it! I would even kinda like wearing uniforms. My so called friends are always bugging me cause I'm not a fashionable dresser. I mean WHO CARES about what you wear? I do really wanna go to boarding school. I dunno why they won't let me.

When i was younger i at first wanted to go to boarding school, so my parents said they would, but I should go to overnight camp to get a litle taste of how it may be being away from your parents. I got SOOO homesick i literaly got sick. But now I want to go to boarding school Sooo badly I would give anything for the chance. I have been in and out of public and private school and now i go to a medical prep school and it is just like going to hell back to earth and back down to hell . so i guess i would take the chance if i could.

I wanted to go to a boarding school so bad, and still do. I would rather go to an acting school. It would be perfect if there was a boarding school especially for actresses(well, aspiring ones, anyway), that had a reasonable price(we gots 5 kids in my family with my mom, 4 with my dad [divorces-they'll get ya ev'ry time....], so mooney is a HUGE deal). I'm planning on attending a high school for the arts when I get into high school. I'm in 7th grade so i got a little while to choose and save $$. Sorry i'm babbling on. I kinda get off topic sometimes. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi, since everybody answered what they thought about my question....I'll give my answer too. I would have liked to gone to boarding school. I loved college and I miss it alot. You get to know a lot of people that otherwise you wouldn't have known. Plus like the rest of you have said, your friends become your family. Those who have went and had the experience I think you were very fortunate.

Actually, it's hard to say I would want to go to a private school since growing up with people in the public school system since kindergarten.
There are a lot of liberties in public school: No uniforms, off-campus lunch(except freshmen.Yay!)laid back teachers, and soda machines around every corner.
I just think 'The Facts of Life' sorta glorified private schools, even though I really don't think they are like that...

I just thought I would throw my $ 0.2 in as well. I think I also would have liked to have the experience of boarding school. Like a couple other people who answered this question, I came from a very over protective family (more specifically my father) and would have loved to have some sense of independence growing up. (believe me when I say I didn't have much) To be honest, the day I left for college was a great day... and as FACTSOFLIFEFAN2 I miss college as well. I found some friends who I became quite close to and they definitely became like family.

Cokies, this is not directed specifically towards you I just wanted to add my thoughts about what it is like at least in some private schools. There were other private schools around where I lived that are like this as well.

Actually going to a private high school is not as bad as it might seem though. I went a Catholic high school and yes we had to wear uniforms but our senior year we got to wear regular clothes (as long as they were kind of dressy AKA no jeans http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif) but we did have specified days that you could wear jeans. As for teachers, I actually went to two different high schools and in both of them we had very laid back teachers, infact in my four years of high school I had only two nuns and one of them was as laid back as you can get. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif Also one of the big perks that we had during senior year was that if we had no classes 7th or 8th period we were free to leave. I know many people who think going to private school is definitely not good, but I personally very much enjoyed my days in high school.

Abbey, I couldn't agree with what you said more. I too went to a parochial high school, and I had many of the same freedoms that my brothers had a public school (except open campus lunch, but hey, if you were sneaky enough, you could make it happen).

I also agree with everyones statements about missing college. There isn't too much I wouldn't give up to have that experience again. To all the younger posters on this board, take it from me. MAJOR IN EVERYTHING!!! THE REAL WORLD IS NOT AS FUN AS COLLEGE!

I agree, Abbey22. I've gone to a private school since kindergarten and it's totally not that bad. We have to wear dark green skirts and a gray or white turtleneck every day PLUS tights and all white sneakers once we get in the sixth grade, and before that we have to wear dark green jumpers. We also at the end of every month get to wear whatever we want and also days in between, and as long as they're dark green, we can wear jeans on regular days as long as they're with the school sweatshirt. So I have to agree with Abbey22 - a private high (or K-12, like me) isn't that bad!! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

TVAddict, hopefully, we got to you in the nick of time. When I was in your position, I was so excited to get out into the world and start making money. I was such fool. I work harder and longer now than I ever did in college. And partying? Forget about it. Those naps you like to take in the afternoon? Gone. Scheduling your classes around soap operas? You actually have to learn how to program your VCR.

Yup. It's all been downhill from school.

Don't dispair. Go to grad school http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Seriously, life is fine outside of college. You're making money, but all the responsibilities of adulthood take away from the freedom that you had in college. If you can accept that, you'll be just fine.

Don't worry, life outside of college is tough..but exciting too. You get to move on to bigger and better things. I'm about to make a move to New York City, I'm excited and scared too.

But do enjoy college, and like everyone else, really miss it!

To Abbey22, yeeah, yeah I made some stereotypical judgements about private schools. I guess it's just not my experience. But talking to fellow students at my school who went to the local private school say public school is definitely 'better'(for lack of a better word). And it saves their parents big bucks...
So that's what I base my opinion on, it's not really relevent, but that's what I think.

Yeah like I had said before, that post was not directed completely towards you. Also I can understand why some people may like public school better... I'll admit going to college with guys was a good change!;-) Just wanted to let people know private schools aren't that bad.

To TVaddict: Yeah I know many people have been telling you about graduating, but I wanted to add my thoughts to it as well. It's not that the "real world" is horrible.... I think it is more the fact that many people look forward to graduation thinking that it will be all fun and games now that there is no more schoolwork to do. And yes being out of college is tons of fun, but still work. Like many others, I miss college as well.

I would love to give a school like Eastland a shot. My high school is pretty nice, but I can't stand all the cliques. Most of the guys are annoying so I wouldn't miss having guys around school. I don't know though.... i'd probably get to go to boarding school and end up not liking it either.

Well, I feel a little better I guess. I never wanted to graduate in the first place, I already knew college was great. I mean, I only go to class 3 days a week! 4 day weekends, it's amazing. I'm also afraid of graduating because I don't know what I'm going to do. Hopefully it will be something good.

i agree. I don't go to a private high school and i still have to wear uniforms. Partly because we are a medical magnet and partly because they are just straight out strict. only the seniors and juniors get off campus privlages but that's only because they have hospital. I would not say that the teachers are laid back b/c we get no less than 1 hour and a half for each subject. we HAD A free dress day last year but not last year b/c they say that people were wearing inapropreate clothing. But when i did go to Christian School it was like a few other people said.
