LucyFan 09-16-2003, 06:53 PM Originally posted by Eric777 I just received an email from The Lucy Desi Museum Heres Lucy will soon be available on DVD It is about time! Finally, we die-hard fans finally get to see Here's Lucy go public instead of remaining on that dusty, weak shelf. I hope they release Here's Lucy by season because that would be a lot easier for the fans to get a hold of those "rare" Lucy episodes all at once. Josh9125 09-16-2003, 07:51 PM I hope it is released by seasons too but I have a feeling it will be a damn "BEST OF" set or something. bb25 09-16-2003, 11:31 PM Deja vu! alienxg7 09-28-2003, 12:11 AM Hi. I am hard-of-hearing and wondered how I could send an email to the Lucy-Desi Museum to make sure they close-caption the "Here's Lucy" DVDs. Thanks, Patrick SPLAIN 09-29-2003, 10:54 AM Laura says it is going to be the best 24 eps, and they have narrowed it down to 35 already! SPLAIN 10-03-2003, 10:00 AM I think the gentlman's name was Neil, i don't know for sure what his name is here but he posted on Lucy Talk and The Lucy Lounge, and asked everybody for their favorite episodes of the series, then i got a PM from a friend telling me to answer because they were going by what we would give as opinions to select the final 24 chosen. As long as the Burton one is on there, i'll be a happy camper! And i certainly hope they won't include any of the ones with animals, LOL! For years, fans have asked about the availability of "Here's Lucy" (Lucille Ball's third weekly TV series) on home video. We're happy to report that plans are underway for a special "Here's Lucy" DVD boxed set to be available sometime next year. The Lucy-Desi Museum Gift Shop will be offering it through our online store at www.lucy-desi.com (once it becomes available). No other specifics are available yet. As soon as more information is provided to us, we will share it with you. The museum, for those of you who aren't familiar with it, is run out of Lucy's hometown of Jamestown, NY and participates in many events in the area. So they should be particularly in-the-know. However, information cannot be found about this on their website, other than this post in their forums (http://www.lucyfan.com/wwwboard/messages/1581.html) which confirms the e-mail's existence. If it's more details you want, though, then LucyFan.com ([URL=http://lucyfan.com/) is up to the task: Here's Lucy Goes DVD Lucille Ball's third television series, Here's Lucy is not only celebrating its 35th Anniversary this year -- it is about to make its debut on DVD. Yes, a three-or-four disc boxed set, "The Best of Here's Lucy" is now in preparation, and will be released during 1st Quarter, 2004. The series, of course, starred Lucy with her two real-life children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz, Jr., with ample assist from Gale Gordon. The show ran for six seasons (144 episodes), 1968-1974. Among the classic shows that will be included in the set is "Lucy Meets the Burtons," in which the wacky redhead cavorts with Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. Also to be included in the set are "bloopers and out-takes" from some of the shows. We will keep you updated as to when the set will be officially released. As will we! Stay tuned for more information; we'll get it to you just as soon as it's available. Our thanks to Robbie Sager and to Ben for helping us bring this news to you. bb25 10-04-2003, 09:33 PM Bloopers and out-takes? Gee, I thought Lucy HATED re-takes? Anyway, sounds cool...will it only be available thru the museum? I imagine it won't be cheap either...:( SPLAIN 10-04-2003, 09:33 PM Well 24 is still better than what we've had so far which was zero. Get copies in the meantime, although just the thought of getting outtakes and everything makes me very impatient indeed. Brenton 10-07-2003, 06:02 PM Well, I only hope "Here's Lucy" is a better quality than those DVD copies floating around of "The Lucy Show". Frankly, I don't think "The Lucy Show" is worth the money - I hope "Here's Lucy" is. SPLAIN 10-08-2003, 10:31 AM It will be, the Lucy show ones were from the Public Domain, these are being done by insiders. But even here in Canada where we pay so much more for everything Lucy, you can get 5 Lucy show DVD's for around 30 or 40 dollars, that's not so bad, yes, the quality is terrible, but then again, at that price . . . storrs19 10-09-2003, 12:15 AM All I can say is, finally !!!!!! I have been waiting to see this show for 20 years now, ever since our local station took it out of rotation. When it was on PAX it got interrupted by our local affiliate with stupid infomercials. Talk about being P_SSED OFF !! Well, whatever the price I will definately pay it because this show should be available. ALL of her shows should be available on DVD with the complete seasons for each one. It is a disgrace for the first, and best lady of comedy to not have such a thing out there when we have it for stupid shows from the 1990's like Friends and Sienfeld (sorry to whomever that offends, but it just ticks me off). I'm sick of 1990's tv, it was bad then and even worse now. Chad SPLAIN 10-09-2003, 01:17 PM Very well said, i've been singing that tune for years now, and your voice is better than mine! alienxg7 10-09-2003, 08:18 PM I am looking forward to the DVD(s)! I contacted them about closed-captions and they said adding subtitles could be cost prohibitive. This makes me upset because closed-captioning is standard for today's releases and rereleases. I have an online petition located at: http://www.petitiononline.com/cchldvds This petition is to make sure "Here's Lucy" is closed-captioned. When it has enough signatures, I will send it to the company producing the dvds. Adding closed-captions will make the DVDs equally enjoyable for hearing impaired people. Please support closed-captions by signing the petition. Thank you very much! -Patrick storrs19 10-09-2003, 09:23 PM I'm kind of new here, so bear with me if I'm beating a dead horse. I was just wondering why this series seems to be the most ignored of Lucille Ball's several television series ?? Other than being on local stations about 20 years ago, then on PAX very briefly (which I couldn't get) it seems no one wants to air it. Do they feel it is too dated ?? (Seems unlikely as I Love Lucy is even older yet airs somewhere everyday in this country). Or do the owners of it (Paramount ??) want to much money for the rights to air it. I've noticed that none of the episodes have show up in the "public domain" on DVD yet. This was always my favorite series of hers although I really couldn't say why, except maybe it was the first I ever saw of her when it was on daytime reruns on CBS. I'm thinking maybe around 1977 or so. Chad bb25 10-09-2003, 10:12 PM I actually read on TV Tome why The Lucy Show DVDs are of poorer quality - they are taken from the original network film segments, and not digitally mastered such is true with shows on TV Land, Nick at Nite, Columbia House TLS, etc... Imagine if the shows on TV Land weren't remastered! storrs19 10-10-2003, 12:18 AM I've always liked that about N@N and TVL. Even though they do edit out scenes for more commercial time, they do get the original prints and they are prinstine. Has anyone also noticed that on many episodes of The Lucy Show that the syndication prints also removed the copyright date at the very end under the Desilu logo. I've often wondered why they do that. Slightly off topic, many of us Dragnet fans are still waiting for the original prints of the B&W series to become available. Most of the public domain ones were taken from old 16mm syndication or network prints and the quality is real bad, especially the sound. Anyway, I'm sure that when this DVD finally gets released (wouldn't it make a nice Christmas present to us Lucy fans), they will be rerstored from the original prints since the museum is doing this release. Chad SPLAIN 10-12-2003, 08:56 PM Chad, i too always suspected that Here's Lucy cost too much, are you sure Paramount owns them? They were distributed by Telepictures and were owned by Lucy herself and therefore might belong to the estate today, which could explain the high cost. It's the only series the family owns. It just does not make any sense that they are never shown, when so much other TV garbage is available on TV and on DVD. TV Guy 11-15-2003, 01:46 AM I know that "Here's Lucy" is not owned by Paramount, and that when it was distributed to local stations in syndication 20 years ago, as well as when it was on PAX a few years ago, Warner Bros. was handling the series. I don't know if Warners owns the series outright, or simply has/had broadcast distribution rights, although I suspect the latter, since Paul Brownstein Productions is handling the DVDs. If the series is still owned by either the Arnaz siblings or Paul Brownstein, then it explains why it hasn't been seen on TV all that much. The big studios like Paramount have large staffs pushing their shows in syndication, not to mention sister cable stations like TV Land which will often buy their shows. A smaller outfit would not have those resources. Also, HL is considered inferior to the classic "I Love Lucy", and many station managers would rather settle for the original if they are going to run an older show. This is the same reason you see "All in the Family" so much more often than "Archie Bunker's Place". "I Love Lucy" is an evergreen that gets decent ratings whenever it is rerun. "Here's Lucy" (and "The Lucy Show", for that matter) do not. So it takes a little more effort to sell the reruns of those shows. SPLAIN 11-17-2003, 11:04 AM Yes, i agree, Lucy herself went on The Price is Right to plug her Here's Lucy reruns when they were shown, less than a year later, they were off the air. But lately, as Lucy's icon status reaches new heights, the world would like something besides I Love Lucy to show off her many talents. Lucy working with her kids and big name stars was a treat then and is an even bigger one now to new generations who have never even seen these shows but have been told over the years by pompous critics that the shows are inferior. Compared to the greatest sitcom tv has ever known, maybe, but to Lucille Ball fans, not really! Brenton 12-05-2003, 12:12 PM Well, I agree with several other posters here that I am tired of "I Love Lucy". If you have cable television like I do, you can see ILL up to ten times a day. I think Lucy is the greatest comedienne of all-time, but I feel like I know every episode of the show by heart, such to the point that the fun has nearly gone out of it. I miss watching the first few seasons of "The Lucy Show" with Vivian Vance. She and Lucy did some of the best comedy ever on television in those first few years. Honestly, I can't say I remember a darn thing about "Here's Lucy", but it will be nice to see a later series. |
