View Full Version : Favorite overall set
TALLguyinKY 09-16-2003, 04:16 AM Which was your favorite overall set? For me it was "The Golden Age", the Eastland years at the cafeteria. It's just so nostalgic for me, and I really loved the different rooms---the girls' room, the kitchen, Mrs. G's room, the lounge, the cafeteria---they were all great! :D
2nd for me would be season 1, cause it's also quite nostalgic for me, was kind of a unique look.
So, what's your favorite overall set? :)
MrsGarrettRocksMySocks 09-16-2003, 04:49 PM Even though I don't really like the ACTUAL SEASONS for 7-9...I like the Over Our Heads set...Lots to look at. Lots of 80's. Very cool.
hawaii five-o 09-16-2003, 06:52 PM I voted for the Edna's Edibles set. It was so homey. It would be so relaxing to hang out in a place like this. And I bet Edna's quiche is delicious, too.

Rebel Queen 1980 09-18-2003, 12:50 AM 2nd,quite a warm nostalgic mood comes into the show.
TALLguyinKY 09-19-2003, 07:35 PM Finally, some more cafeteria people! lol :D
dandelion wine 09-20-2003, 04:18 AM  Another cafeteria fan here.
HIGH ENOUGH 09-20-2003, 12:58 PM I liked "Over Our Heards" because they had the neastest stuff. But the other sets were cool, too! :)
james_baby87 09-20-2003, 04:27 PM Cafeteria fan!
If I had a favorite locale on "the Facts of Life", it would have to be the Edna's Edibles set and the house. It seemed like such a nice and quaint palce to be to get away from the rigors and the pressures of that cafeteria. In fact, after they uncovered the set in the 5th season, No more stories took place at Eastland. It was a nice change of venue for teh characters. It at least got them somewhat into the real world and out of the uniforms and the structured life.

Me too, EDNA s EDIBLE was a real home to these 4 girls & MRS. G a mother to them: they all became even closer (if that s possible) + there was nobody else to disturb them..... Of course the show went downhill when BEVERLY ANN showed up:mad:
JoPol_wannabe 01-29-2013, 06:54 PM I liked "Over Our Heards" because they had the neastest stuff. But the other sets were cool, too! :)
I totally agree Over Our Heads was a cool set some of the stuff they had I could see myself having
Johnny be good! 02-06-2013, 10:49 AM Over Our Heads for sure.
candycandy 02-07-2013, 11:28 AM Over Our Heads for sure.
i can t believe OVER OUR HEADS is your favourite time: don t you like Mrs. G at all or what?:(
Latinoxtc 02-24-2013, 04:31 PM As a kid it was Over Our Heads and as an adult it was still Over Our Heads. I loved that set so much that my first job as a kid was a store in the mall that looked a lot like Over Our Heads. I just loved all the bright pastels and the quirky things in the store. I also loved how on season 7 a lot of the episodes began with contemporary 80's hits it all just so blended well with the set. I was in 80's overload heaven with that set.
Johnny be good! 03-08-2013, 09:32 AM My mom thought the same thing.
retrofan05 03-12-2013, 07:16 PM Edna's Edibles. It was just so cozy. I just wanted to hang out there with the girls and Mrs. G. LOL

I totally agree with you: the EDNA's EDIBLES era was the most magical one cos MRS.G had finally adopted the girls by bringing them together and live into her bakery lol......:p
Rookielove 08-25-2013, 09:39 PM Edna's Edibles is my favorite.
RetroGuy2000 12-27-2013, 06:57 AM I voted for the dorm set, although it had the world's lamest cafeteria. I loved the grandfather clock and the staircase in the first season. And I liked Mrs. Garrett's bedroom.
I was glad they redid the cafeteria for season two. I loved the new cafeteria, but the floor was very weird. It looked like rubber.
Edna's Edibles was homey.
Over Our Heads was so over-the-top '80s. I keep expecting Duran Duran to stop in to buy some jackets with shoulder pads.
Nighthawk76 12-27-2013, 05:17 PM Edna's Edibles. I probably like that set the most as season five is my favorite season.
Tap Dancer 03-18-2014, 02:26 PM Seasons 2-4 (the cafeteria)
ThomasE 03-18-2014, 11:10 PM I kinda like Edna's Edibles. It was homey and cozy. It makes me wanna take a ride upstate into a quiet place that led to no where away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
RetroGuy2000 03-19-2014, 12:47 PM If you do go, Tom, please check out Homestyle Desserts Bakery (http://www.homestyledessertsbakery.com/biography.html), in downtown Peekskill, which started at its current location in 1984. That front pastry case looks very similar to the one on the right-hand side of Edna's Edibles.

Over Our Heads I thought was awful, looked like they were selling all the stuff Spencer's thought was too tacky.
Joseph13 03-19-2014, 10:16 PM Though I voted for the Over Our Heads set, the set like the Girls changed with the times. I enjoyed that the show was able to change with the the times. I enjoy Knots Landing for the same reason.

Ok. I will. I will do that just for the heck of it. I love scouting locations. I'm about a 45-50 min drive from Peekskill (Kinda of like the Drummonds). Thanks so much for the tip.

First off, welcome back!
Second, I agree with you on both counts regarding the store and Knots Landing. Now, from one Knots Landing fan to another, what era was your favorite? We know it started with the disco/self contained ep era and carried to the 90's political/mafia era.
RetroGuy2000 03-20-2014, 12:23 AM Over Our Heads I thought was awful, looked like they were selling all the stuff Spencer's thought was too tacky.
So true. Remember that inflatable palm tree? Or was it an inflatable pink flamingo? Might have been both. Those episodes did not age well.

I just noticed some of the weird coincidences the other day: started in 1984, downtown Peekskill, a bakery, etc. I assume they must get people who ask them about Edna's Edibles, though the outside looks a lot less like EE than the inside, and even the inside only slightly resembles the interior of the store in Seasons 5-6.
I've also heard there's a spooky old abandoned girls' school in Peekskill.
Anyway, if you've got time to kill, it sounds like a cool road trip.
love80s 03-25-2014, 06:16 PM Me too, EDNA s EDIBLE was a real home to these 4 girls & MRS. G a mother to them: they all became even closer (if that s possible) + there was nobody else to disturb them..... Of course the show went downhill when BEVERLY ANN showed up:mad:
Beverly Ann was awesome! she was funny, friendly, nice, warm, she is what the girls needed as they continued to grow. I get tired of people trashing on Beverly Ann, Mrs. G. is gone not coming back.
RetroGuy2000 03-25-2014, 10:39 PM I don't think the girls actually needed Beverly Ann at that age.
love80s 03-26-2014, 01:14 AM You can say the girls didn't need Beverly Ann at their age, but really, did they need Mrs. Garrett after season 4? Blair and Jo were in college and tootie was a freshman, and Natalie a sophomore, if Edna's Edibles had not happened Blair and Jo at college and Tootie and Natalie at Eastland, they still would have had Mrs. Garrett, she stays at the school, but I think they would have been fine if she had left anyway.
RetroGuy2000 03-26-2014, 01:49 AM Sure they still needed Mrs. Garrett in Seasons 5 and 6. Natalie and Tootie were still minors at that time, and their parents would not have allowed them to move anywhere without a firm hand to guide them.
When Mrs. G left, it was because she felt the girls had outgrown their need for her. At that time, "replacing" Mrs. G with a previously unmentioned sister just rang false.

Mrs. Garrett was really not much of a presence in season 5-7, look at season 6 and 7, they would have made it without her if she had left at the end of season 4. Unmentioned sister- shows do that all the time bring in characters never mentioned so what? Beverly Ann was great her and Mrs. Garrett total opposites I loved it!

Actually, an amazing little detail here, Mrs. Garrett does mention her sister, not on FOL, but on an episode of "Diff'rent Strokes"! She goes to visit her in one episode.
Mrs. Garrett was really not much of a presence in season 5-7
I'd say she was still a good presence in seasons 5 and 6, particularly 5, with Edna's Edibles starting out and all.
RetroGuy2000 04-05-2014, 12:49 AM I think by Season 7, they weren't featuring Mrs. Garrett very much, and I can see why Charlotte Raye wanted to leave the show after that season. But Seasons 5 and 6, as you point out, had many episodes revolving around Mrs. G.
The Over Our Heads era didn't work out well for Mrs. Garrett. She didn't 'fit in' anymore.
Impressions 04-05-2014, 06:10 PM Definitely Over Our Heads. This set was so fun and I liked how bright, colorful and open it was. My second favorite would be Edna's Edibles. It just looked so cozy and comfortable. The cafeteria looked like a bad fast food restaurant. Horrible yellow lighting, closed-in, and cheap looking. The dorm in season one was by far the worst. Too much clutter and messy with bad '70s furniture.

Wow talk about disagreement, lol. I love the cafeteria best. I love the pale yellow paint and the way the architecture is, with the windows and the arch entryways. I think it's the largest and most open of all the sets, and the soft yellow and set design give it a nice, cozy, "homey" feel---well, as homey as a cafeteria can feel, lol.
As for the dorm, I don't think it really had that much clutter; perhaps in some of the girls' rooms maybe? But not downstairs in the common room.
Johnny be good! 04-07-2014, 11:16 AM I don't think the girls actually needed Beverly Ann at that age.
Probably not, but Edna knew the four girls wouldn't be there forever. She just wanted someone there on a permanent basis more or less. I also enjoyed Beverly Ann on the show, as well as Andy and Pippa.

Wow, that's a very good point; I never considered that.
