I've been watching the Ritter tribute on TV Land this weekend and find it very comforting. I didn't realize just how many shows he was in! Right now, they're playing the Cosby episode he and Amy guest starred on. John was so good (actually both of them together were so good) that Cosby showed them at their own apartment and basically turned over the comedy to them for that episode. Obviously one Icon recognized another when he saw it and knew he could carry the episode. John was "everyman". Good looking, but not intimidating . Thankfully, like Lucy, we have lots of film to still enjoy his comedic genius for generations to come. He had the physical humour of Dick Van Dyke and was so genuine.
My heart and prayers go out to Amy and their daughter, and his other children. My heart also goes out to close friends like Henry Winkler (who summed him up so well and spoke so elequently of his buddy). He'll be waiting for you all in heaven. I'm so glad he got the chance to makeup with Suzanne Somers (thanks to Amy) - I'm sure it would have devestated her if they hadn't got that chance.
I feel for his children as I lost my father when I was nineteen in a similar way (he died of a sudden, massive heart attack at 53) so I know what its like not to get a chance to say goodbye and how much he meant to me.
John, if you can hear any of us now, please know how much we loved and enjoyed you. Only the Good Die Young. You're the proof. Forever in our hearts
