View Full Version : Ted Danson or Colin Quinn would make good replacement for Ritter

If they are going to continue the show with a replacement as the dad, I think either Ted Danson or Colin Quinn would be able to do a good job at it.

Ha! No one could ever be as great as John! I think the show will be canceled!

I refuse to even consider the fact that ABC would continue this show with a replacement. John Ritter WAS 8 simple rules.
No way. It would be like continuing Frasier without Kelsey Grammar. The shows over. John Ritter was loved and adored way to much for anyone to stomach another stepping into his shoes.

No, he cant be replaced. That was his show and he was the star. Id rather have them continue without him than to have him be replaced. Thats an insult.

I also agree 100%. He can't be replaced. Why did you tune into this show? Was it for the kids? no. Was it for Katey Segal? Probably not, although she did a good job. It was for John Ritter. He was this show.

Besides, how would they explain that in a story arc? The father suddenly dies one week, and the next week there's a new man in the picture?

The only way they could do this is to have a new actor take over the role (like Aunt Vivian on Fresh Prince). But that wouldn't work, and it would be disrespectful to John Ritter.

It's all irrelevant, anyways. I'm 99.99% certain that the show is going to be cancelled, and honestly, would you want to watch it without John Ritter, anyways?

I think the only way it lasts is if his replacement was Pauls Brother. Then the name of the show wouldn't make sense. I'm not sure the show is ending. It probably should but ABC is a network and all they care about is ratings. If they could get a big enough star to replace John I think they would.

ABC has never heard language as bad as I will throw at their heads of programming if they decide to replace John Ritter. He's not able to be replaced. He was one of a kind, this was his. The end.

It is definitely a tragic devastating loss that we lost John Ritter so young, and so sudden. This show was supposed to be his come back as a star into the sitcoms, and it was. This show was a huge hit and it should have gone on for years to come. I am still in disbelief about this. There is no way they could replace nor go on with the show now. This is a John Ritter show, plain and simple. I hope everyone can find peace in this tragedy. I wish we could rewind the past 24 hours and make it never happen. It still such a shock for me to cope with.

Colin is great and very funny, but I agree with everybody else.

I don't want to insult the thread starter, but even the thought of replacing Ritter is stupid.

Well, first of all, Ted Danson are Colin Quinn are both committed to other shows...

Secondly, this isn't like Coach/Woody or Dick York/Dick Sargent (which you can't do these days anyway). You can't replace someone who was that integral in the show and expect it to live on.

People will just be upset with the show without John Ritter and it will "jump the shark" so even though it will affect a lot of jobs and viewers, the graceful and smart thing is to end the show.

The name of the show has been mentioned quite a bit here, but it is the least of their worries. If they decided to continuie the show, they could just shorten the name to "8 Simple Rules" (which it unoffically goes by, anyway). Besides, if the show has lasted on 2-3 more seasons, the title wouldn't have made sense anymore, anyway -- because the dauaghter would no longer be a teenager.

remember "valerie" starring valerie harper. the show went on without her for 4 seasons. they did quite well without her and she was the star of the show....

it's disgusting that any of you would even THINK of a replacement. The man JUST died and your already thinking about this??? The show should be cancelled. anything else would just be wrong. all of you that are thinking about a replacement already should be checked out by someone. 8 simple rules is a show. A man just DIED. I can't believe some of you people.

It's not a surprise, and I agree with most everyone in this thread: There is no way they could ever replace John Ritter. I wouldn't even consider it, because that pair of shoes is one pair noone could fill, in my opinion.

Ignore my last post. Most other news items say that the show is still up in the air, and ABC execs are still figuring this all out.

I think this show should be cancelled. Like everyone else has said, nobody could replace John Ritter. It's like when Redd Foxx died suddenly while filming a TV series called "The Royal Family." Do you think the show would have survived without him? No. It was cancelled several episodes later. If there is a replacement for Ritter, I will not even watch the series. He made 8SR what it is.

They should definitely cancel the show. John Ritter was the best part about the show.

abc should combine the casts of 8sr and reba. two women and their children sharing a house...a "kate & allie" for a new generation

I think that it will come down to the cast of the show, wether they want to carry on or not.

If they decide they want to continuie the show, as a tribute to Ritter or as a way of carrying on his memory, there's no way ABC could pull the plug on them. At least not without giving them a chance in the ratings. It would be a PR disaster.

On the other hand, if they decide that they don't want to carry on without Ritter, then obviously, that is it. The show will not go on.

So whatever ABC decides, I think the future of 8SR ultimately comes down to the cast.

But to echo what other have said -- and I've been guilty of it too -- all this talk of the future of the show and replacing Ritter really is disrespectful and inappropriate. The man passed on just over 1 day ago. It isn't right that we look past him at this point.

That's because, when I made that Sig file, the IMG code was still turned on in sigs. With it off, the image just appears as a link.

Problem should be fixed now, I scrapped it entirely
