40 days and counting until the Dick Van Dyke Show is released on DVD. I can't wait!! Every day when I watch the edited version on TV Land, I think about how fun it will be to watch the DVDs and see what has been edited out!

And on this day, September 11, I just want to say how much I appreciate our American heroes and offer my prayers to those who lost loved ones on that terrible, terrible day.

Thanks, Steve. we will!! My family has always practiced emergency preparedness, so we are ready for Isabel!! At least with a hurricane, you have a week's notice. With 9/11, there was none and so many people didn't know what to do around here after the Pentagon was hit. But we know what to do this week! We are ready and hunkered down. Keep us in your prayers, please!

Thanks, BlueEyesKid. I was feeling ok about this hurricane coming. We are well prepared. I got a little uneasy as they were announcing all the emergency measures. Schools here in the DC area are closed tomorrow (9/18.) The Federal Government is closed. All public transportation, including the subway system, will be shut down. Even though we will not be hit nearly as hard as the Outer Banks of North Carolina, we are expecting quite a wallop. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. They will be a great comfort to me. If you don't hear from me for a few days, assume we are without power. Happy Hurricane!

Gang,
I alternate between the TV Land airings of our show, and the T/L dvd's I already own, so I'm curious; has TV Land run any commercials promoting the upcoming release of our show on DVD? I haven't noticed any.

I haven't noticed any yet Steve, and I must say I'm really shocked and disappointed. I would think this would be the primary source of advertising that IMAGE could carry out to get these sets to sell. I'd also think that with DVD's relationship with TVLand, he'd have done something to get these two sets some advertising on that channel (and Nick@Nite as well).

Here we go again! Poor marketting! Lack of Promotion! How in the world can these sets sell enough copies to justify their reproduction and further sales simply by word of mouth? These people are shooting themselves in the foot. I'm convinced that's what happened to MTM's dvd sets.
What happens when a best selling author has a new book to sell? They promote it! What happens when a big star has a new movie to release? They promote it! What happens when a hot band finishes a new album? They promote it! What should the distributors of TDVDS on DVD do to let everyone know about their product? They should (all together now) promote it!
Now, consider the popularity of TDVDS and the number of Emmys and host of other awards it's won. Is it really that hard to get Dick and Mary a spot on The Early Show, The Today Show, or Good Morning America? Would it be so impossible to have them say a few words with Letterman, Leno, O'Brian, or Kimmel? Could'nt a cute little commercial be put togehter to run on TV Land, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, AMC, and TBS?
Sorry about ranting again on this subject for those of you who've already heard it (Kristen)! It just really chaps my hide that they'll easily stop production of sets like these, citing poor sales, when they never really gave it much of chance.

Just wanted to say, I couldn't agree more, Steve!! Fox didn't properly promote TMTMS, and that's why it failed. Hopefully Image won't fall into that trap. I'm hoping at least somebody goes on "Larry King" to promote it. Mary seems to be a regular there; it wouldn't surprise me if she and Dick stopped by later this month. Remember, they'll probably wait till just before it comes out to start the promotion. That's what Fox did.

I've been amazed at the total lack of publicity surrounding this release. Jay Leno did mention it the night that Dick and Mary appeared promoting "The Gin Game" but that was MONTHS ago. I have seen nothing recently on TV Land or anywhere else. It is astounding. TV Land is busy promoting that awful Alan Brady Show. I'm also shocked by all of this. What is happening? It's like Doug lost the fire in his belly. It is so sad!!!

Unfortunately you all are 100% correct! And their's plenty of blame to go around. As far as I'm concerned, a case could be made that all of the following parties are at least, in some part, to blame for this lack of promotion:

IMAGE ENT.
WMA
BROWNSTEIN
DOUG
TVLAND (& associates)
DICK & MARY & CARL

To one degree or another, I believe all of these people have failed to do ALL they could to promote the dvd release.

I know that if I were any of these agencies or people, I'd be "pounding the pavement" looking for ways to get the word out. And from what I can tell up to this point, none of them have taken FULL advantage of their individual sources & outlets to do this. Shame on them if this thing doesn't sell!!!

Although I think they should advertise on TVLand, they may lose TDVDS viewers when the dvd comes out.

I get your point, Barwars88, but I think it may be an illogical concern.
In my time zone, Central, TDVDS is on at 3:30 AM and 8:00 AM; not prime time hours. Anybody who is awake and watching TV Land during those hours probably already has set that as a part of their daily routine. It's not likely that just because they've purchase the dvds of the show, they will then switch channels to find something else at that time, anymore than someone switches radio stations when a song comes on from an album they've purchased.
At least, that's what I think

That is a very difficult decision!!! Some of my favorite episodes are in seasons 1 and 2. Either way, you will not be disappointed.

I was gonna say the exact same thing, Lolac. Both seasons have great episodes. In fact, I'd have a fairly hard time choosing any one season as a "heads and shoulders above" personal favorite.
