There is alot of cursing onthe show especially the F word which doesnt bother me But I was wondering does the show need alot of cursing to be funny with so many very talented funny ppl on the show Would ppl like it more or less or about the same just curious

Cursing only really became a "staple" of the show this past season.Seasons 1 and 2 had some cursing but not as much as Season 3.It doesn't really bother me.

The main reason there is cursing because, although fictional, they want it to seem as lifelike as possible. and say what you will about normal sitcoms coming close, you can't walk down the street for a minute without hearing a swear come from somewhere. plus how can he not swear when larry gets in his trademark explosive arguments?

The most cursing comes from susie, she is always angry.

Over the yrs the show has been on I have come to really like Susie and her cursing tyraids makes me laugh out loud now Susie Essman is a very funny Lady Larry saw her in a club doing her act and told her about the show and her part hired her on the spot never had to audition for it

Thats what I was thinking never could syndicate CYE because of the funny adult language like the episode where they open the restaurant and everyone is cursing at the end very funny scene but couldnt be shown on syndicated reruns

In my mind cursing isn't what it used to be. Granted I am only 23 years old, but growing up if we were to swear we would get yelled at and grounded. Nowadays you hear anything and everything on TV and in schools. Cursing on CWE is something I usually look forward to. If you remember the one episode "Beloved Aunt" or another word was used for it I think.... if you catch my drift. It is just funny to hear Larry say. I don't really find any swearing offensive just because I hear it all the time at work, bars, etc.

I'm with you on this one. I have only seen a couple of eppys of Sex and the City, but I remember the ones I watched on HBO weren't exactly clean. I found myself wondering how in the heck they were going to put it in syndication. But then again, they also put the Sopranos on "Bravo" and that has a ton of swearing in it.

You are totally right on this, Chocolate! Sometimes swearing can be funny, but it doesn't add anything if the show itself is already funny! If every other word is a swear word it really starts to get on my nerves!:rolleyes:

The only time I've ever seen CYE was over a year ago at my mom's house. She has On Demand and I watched a couple of episodes. I really didn't care for the swearing, which might be why it's taken me so long to watch it again.

The Sopranos on Bravo still has a lot of cursing on it. Except they cant say the F word or any variation of it or any of the Badda Bing Club Strippers dancing topless or sex scenes with nudity.

The Sopranos is a show to be honest I love and You have to have the cursing especially in it. Because real organized crime mobsters when they talk.

Especially when they are angry curse using the F word and all the different variations on it. The Sopranos edited versions come off lame to me.

I hope they never syndicate CYE and put an edited to death version on basic cable & local tv stations. I mean CYE is a comedy for adults its a very good critically acclaimed adult comedy. I mean Larry telling jeff or Richard Lewis to shut the freak up or frump up or Susie yelling at Larry calling him a freakin nut or freakin idiot. Come on thats just wrong. Leave it on HBO and dont change a thing about CYE

I honestly think that if "Seinfeld" were on HBO instead of NBC that it would have had a lot of cursing in it as well. That's a shame, really becuase what made it so funny was how they got around all of that. I was watching a show from Season 3 yesterday and there were definitely a few curse words said, but of course, they didn't say the whole word.

And then there was the "Non-Fat Frozen Yoguart" episode with the kid telling Jerry he was funny.... I loved how they kept bleeping out words!

i ahve to watch HBO stuff behind closed doors, because of it. :( And Dh who loves the show, says the curing ruins it. and that he keeps hearing it in his head after...since i don't want him to talk lilke that, he had to give it up

Definitely Seinfeld would have had more cursing if it were on HBO. Speaking of Seinfeld Cursing & CYE. Remember when Larry & Julia Luis Dryphus were discussing what network to take the pilot to. and Julia kept saying HBO because she always wanted to say F#@% on tv and never had gotten to say F#@% on tv. What was so funny about the scene was th way she said the F word with such excitement.

I just watched the first episode of this last night and although it was pretty funny (it was the tent pants episode; where Larry is supposed to meet Richard Lewis and his girlfriend at the movies and inadvertently gets into a fight with Richard's girlfriend in the theater!:lol: ), the cursing does bother me to an extent. I know it's supposed to make it more realistic, but as Chocolate Moose said, it's not needed.

As for Seinfeld, I'm SO glad they chose to put it on NBC instead of HBO. For one thing, I wouldn't have ever gotten to see it, and secondly it wouldn't be as funny with all the swearing. But I can understand Julia's "desire" to drop "F-bombs" (as they say in my office!) on TV. Well, no, actually I can't understand it, but I "accept" it. I don't think I could ever say something like that if I was on camera.

I have watched the pants tent many times and that episode is very funny.

Especially when larry gets into a fight with Richards snotty girlfriend. I think if the cursing wasnt in the show the big arguments and yelling tirades on the show would make no since.

For imstance Susie gets very mad at Larry and says you flipping jerk you no good knucklehead you freakin idiot that would sound ridiculous.

But thats what makes Susie's character unique. The show would be sooo boring if they didnt have her in it as the loud mouth wife who curses & says whats on her mind and doesnt care if you like it or not.

there have been many such characters in history that didn't rely on swear words yet got their message across. it's called acting.

Yes there have been but thats not the way Larry wanted to go with the Susie Green character and the same goes for the Wanda character. Lets just agree to disagree and move on

See Larry was a stand up comedian before he did Seinfeld. and lots of comedians curse in their acts and take their tv show ideas to a pay tv network like HBO. Simply because they want to be able to say or do what they want on camera.

Larry had dealt with the NBC censors alot on Seinfeld and didnt want somebody telling him what he could or could not say on CYE. No question CYE could have been done without the cursing for NBC.

But doing it on HBO really free's them up and makes it allot easier on Larry & his staff. Not having to worry about the NBC censors breathing down their necks.

Another thing its not just the cursing that keeps CYE on HBO. The censors wouldnt let the racial & religious humor they do on the air. I mean nearly every show they would offend some race or ethnicity or religious sect.

I think it's one of the best parts of the show.

Do you think Larry & Cheryl will get back together and remarry in the new season in 09? I hope so myself didnt like seeing them apart on the show
