View Full Version : The Female Ted McGinley!
The Female Ted McGinley? What is TJL talking about?
For those of you familair with the whole Jump The Shark websight, when actor Ted McGinley is brought into a series, the show has offically jumped the shark.
After hours of painstaking research when I should have been working, I have come up with the female Ted McGinley, an actress who's arrival has caused plenty of shark jumping in Television Land...
Tiffani Thiessen.
No longer sporting the cumbersome Amber middle name, Miss Thiessen has strutted her stuff through "Beverly Hills 90120," "Two Guys And A Girl," and "Just Shoot Me," all of which petered out and died do to complete lack of plot or direction.
Now I see Miss Thiessen is part of the cast of "Good Morning Miami," a show in which the one creative highlight was a weather forecasting nun.
Will Tiffani's buxom presence spell certain doom for this already weak sitcom?
Let's watch and see...
Well, you guys watch, I hate Good Morning Miami!
;)

Christopher 09-11-2003, 12:51 AM I don't think Tiffani ruins the shows she is on. She rocked 90210. It's not really the actors fault if the show gets canned. It is the writers fault for not making the show better. JMO :)

I don't mind Tiffani. I've seen worse actresses. I thought she was the saving grace of SBTB: College Years. The new female cast members were far worse than she was when it came to acting standards.
Freakzilla 09-11-2003, 12:23 PM My pick for female Ted McGinley is Rena Sofer. She's wreaked havoc on Melrose Place, Ed, The Chronicle, and co-starred last season on Just Shoot Me. She's back this season with Coupling. We know how America just loves adaptions of British shows. Rena could be back with a new show next fall.

The scripts were almost identical...only character names, location, had been changed. Worst thing ever. Still hurts just thinking about that show!

Actually I think she was one of the Highlights of "Ed" that season. But you are right, she has joined a few long running shows near the jumping point. "Chronicle" was all wrong for her. She should have stuck with NBC prime time after her guest stint on "Ed."
Another actress in contention for female Ted McGinley is Paula Marshall. She appeared on "Sportsnight," "The Steven Weber Show," and also on "Just Shoot Me." When she isn't joining the cast of other series, she has starred in numerous failed sitcoms and dramas.

I was thinking Paula Marshall when I saw this topic name. She also was on The Wonder Years in its last year, and like you said all of her shows. I'm a fan of hers and all, but it seems like she is cursed!

I forgot about what Rena did to Melrose Place. I think people lost interest in the show as the writers made Rena's character to be like Kimberly.
I was thinking Heather Locklear too. She made it work for Melrose Place, but what about Spin City?

"Payne" was hillarious, JL was a comedic marvel as usual, he also had magnetic chemistry with JoBeth Williams who played his wife. It deserved a much better time slot. If i'm not mistaken, the show was done by the same people that did "George and Leo", which was also a good show.
Well it looks like we have three lovely ladies in contention for Female Ted McGinley - Rena Sofer, Paula Marshal, and Tiffani (leave out the Amber) Thiessen.
Two of these three will be on NBC series this month, and I'm sure Miss Marshall will have some lame project on tap by the end of the season.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see who takes the titile, unless anyone else has another nominee...
;)
Sitcomwriter 09-13-2003, 04:50 PM What about Alison LaPlaca? She was on Duet and after that she played the same character on Open House. She was also in 2 out of Tom Arnold's 3 sitcoms and I believe that she also was added during the final season of The John Larroquette Show. She's killed every sitcom that she has been in except for Friends (but that's because they decided to kill her off first).

I thought the same thing. We'll have to see if Out of Practice is doomed or goes on.
Tiffani Thiessen was on 90210 from 1994 to 1998...the show ran from 1990 to 2000...I guarantee you, she was not the reason why it was cancelled. The show ran for two more seasons AFTER she left.

Everytime I see a sitcom trying to save itself by throwing a cute kid in the mix I think of dear ol' cousin Oliver.
