The Hollywood Exclusive

By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith

Watch out, another teen queen is moving up fast. Raven, formerly the "Cosby Show" kid known as Raven Symone – and currently the Disney Channel's reigning It Girl since the departure of Hilary Duff – has closed deals for not one, but two features.

She tells us she may shoot them back-to-back during her series' seasonal hiatus some six weeks from now.

"All American Girl" will have the gifted 17-year-old comedienne playing a teen who saves the president of the United States from a freak accident and becomes a national hero overnight, much to her bemusement.

Raven's also set to star in a remake of the musical "Sparkle."

And "I've just signed with Buena Vista Records, and I'm collecting songs right now to do my third album. There's also going to be a soundtrack album for 'That's So Raven,'" she says.

"Disney has been very, very good to me, all the way through, in all sections of the company. The synergy there is beautiful," comments the show business veteran.

She got into the "All American Girl" mindset recently when she sang at a White House T-Ball event, and enjoyed chatting it up with the president and First Lady.

"They were wonderful and so warm," she says. "I was like, 'Let me take some notes real quick.'"

She insists she doesn't feel undue pressure with it all.

"Before this show, I was on 'Hangin' With Mr. Cooper,' and I'd tape Friday, then go out on tour Saturdays and Sundays. From age seven to 11, I was doing that each year. I've had a very busy life my entire life, and it's been a good and healthy life."

How about time for a boyfriend?

"That's personal," she says, laughing.

Not so long ago, when a very funny man named Bill Cosby was the king of TV comedy, there was a little girl whose impeccable timing and precociousness made him funnier than he ever seemed before. Her name was Raven-Symone, although on "The Cosby Show" she was Olivia Kendall, and some critics raved that the 3-year-old extended the life of TV's No. 1 show (Cosby and little kids always have been an unbeatable combination). The years have zipped by, and that 3-year-old is 17, with a No. 1 show of her own on the Disney Channel. Her name's just Raven now, and her show, "That's So Raven", is all about her character, a teen who sees the future but not always what's happening in the present. "Her situation is having a secret and keeping it because she doesn't want to seem like a freak," says the star, who understands the pressure to conform. Maybe it's her Atlanta upbringing, but she has very a healthy attitude. "There's always the girl who's prettier [and] more popular than you," Raven says. "It's hard to make everybody happy. You just have to make yourself happy."

You sucker emcees should call Raven (Symone) sire! That's right, just when you thought that you had this entertainer pegged as a nonentity when it comes to getting people to tune in she and wrecks up shop with her made for tv movie and self titled show "the cheetah girls" and "that's so raven"!

When it premiered last Friday it delivered 6.5 million Total Viewers and 3.8 million Households (4.6 rating). "The Cheetah Girls" was the #1 ranked basic cable telecast of the day in Households (4.6/3.8 million), Total Viewers (3.1/6.5 million), Kids 6-11 (12.8/2.4 million), Girls 6-11 (16.7/1.5 million), Boys 6-11 (9.1/874,000) and Tweens 9-14 (13.4/2.5 million)It was also the best ratings Disney ever got from an original movie,Raven the best thing to hit Disney?I think so!

A highly anticipated day among the Disney Channel demographic, Friday was also the Disney Channel's highest Total Day ratings (6:00 a.m.-3:00 a.m.) ever with its target demographic of Kids 6-11 (4.1), Tweens 9-14 (3.8) and Male Tweens 9-14 (2.8).

Oh yeah, for the Raven haters out there, know this. She's just been selected to play the lead in the remake of "Sparkle." That's riiight. She has also just started filming a new movie for her first big screen lead role in "Disney's All-American Girl, and just finished recording an album for Buena Vista records!Go Raven!

I got some ratings, and Raven's ratings are and have been killing Lizzie's ratings...so ask me again why they don't announce this like they did when sweet lil Hilary Duff was with the network...oh yeah I forgot Raven is...ummm...:D  For those of you that don't know, the ratings are in parenthesis!

http://www.orossenterprises.com/db4/00327/orossenterprises.com/_uimages/themix_raven_article.jpg When you think of Raven-Symoné, in your mind you may see the adorable, chunky-cheeked Olivia from The Cosby Show. But snap out of it. In reality, she’s a savvy, modern-day teen TV star whose credibility and cachet with 9-to-14-year-olds help drive the billion-dollar Disney machine.“It’s an honor that Disney picked me to open a door for them,” says 17-year-old Raven (formerly known as Raven-Symoné), now the star of her very own top-rated sitcom, That’s So Raven, and the movie The Cheetah Girls, both on the Disney Channel. “I just want to represent my people well. I’m not going to be ghetto on the show. I don’t want people to think that’s all we can do.”

Well, there’s no chance of Raven’s blowing it, says movie producer Debra Martin Chase, who chose the actor to star in The Cheetah Girls. “She has that intangible thing—the It factor people always talk about,” Chase says. Thanks to four years on another sitcom, Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper, and leading roles opposite Eddie Murphy in the Dr. Dolittle films, Raven has become a bona fide player in Hollywood.

Before the show—originally called Absolutely Psychic—even aired, Disney executives revamped it and bumped her up from a supporting role to its star. Now the show is in its second season. And Disney has tapped Raven for the lead in next year’s feature release All-American Girl, in which she inadvertently saves the president and becomes a national hero.

It’s not uncommon for a media conglomerate to hype a teen star: Disney did the same for its former star Hilary Duff, Raven is a rarity in Hollywood, and it's about time somebody threw her above the crowd because she's truly a blessing and an extreme talent.Which it seems with Disney she is another teen in to conquer Hollywood and the music world.
