Gang,

October 3, 2004 will mark the 50th Anniversary of the television birth of "Father Knows Best". That's 13 months away, so I figure we have some time to write letters and make suggestions about how that milestone should be honored.

Some obvious ideas:

A DVD release.

A television celebration and marathon.

A reunion show, similar to the one presented by The Family Channel 10 years ago.

A book on the show! "Beaver", "Dick Van Dyke", "The Fugitive", "Lucy" etc all have books. "FKB" should have a book!
:typing:

What do you all think?

I wish all episodes were released in DVD. Preferably with subtitles available, since my American English oral comprehension is not as perfect as I'd wish :o

Cheers from Spain!

50 years deserves some kind of acknowledgement. I would love to see a book, and a tv special with all the people still left that were involved. This show has played an important role in a lot of people's lives.

Yes, 50 years should deserve something special - like a huge DVD mega set release!!!!!!!! But I'm not holding my breath for Sony to be that smart.

In fact, I got a bit of disappointing news from a Sony email that I received last night. They shared their future plans for tv on dvd release, mentioning their recent online poll. Unfortunately, there was not even a hint of FATHER KNOWS BEST coming out on dvd. Apparently, if we are to believe Sony, the show didn't do well at all in the poll.

Of course, I don't even like to talk about that poll, because the CRAP that is going to be released in the coming months, supposedly as a result of the voting in the poll, makes me want to puke! It's all newer, lame shows like NEWS RADIO, SOAP, DILBERT and other assorted "classics" (note heavy sarcasm in my typing there).

The fact is this: Studios can't manufacture disks (especially older material like FBK that requires more "clean up") in only a few months. I imagine if they decided today that they were going to release a 1st Season Set of the show, it would take them at least 8 months before such a set would be ready for release. Possibly a year would be necessary. So unless someone with some brains at Sony (aka Columbia Tri-Star) has already started the preliminary work, it's highly unlikely we would see a dvd set release in time for the 50th Anniversary. And that's a real shame!

B&W "tv on dvd is the most frustrating entertainment industry alive today, because it is soley based on kiddies, teens, and 20 somethings - all of which couldn't give a rip about a classic like FBK" fan

I've been visiting that Sony webpage for the last two months. I believe the 6 series listed on top of the list were added just recently (a week ago or so). If that's true, the list isn't closed, so there's some hope they might release more series in the future.

I don't work for the TV industry, so I've no idea about the time effort needed for the FKB release. I wish you were wrong in your guessing :)

Btw, from the Amazon customers reviews, it seems some of those series released by Sony are not very well done... IIRC, some customers say there're no scene breaks between chapters.
