View Full Version : How long have you had your computer?
TheHappyBurgerMeister 09-08-2003, 05:56 PM The one my family and I have is about 3 years old and it's already pretty crappy. The memory is horrible. I thought computers were supposed to be better than that. It's an Imac OS 8 or 9. I also found out that I can't use an iPod with it since it's an old computer. Now, i have to get a new computer first! Anyone else have a computer that's older than 3 years old and how does that work?
jsizzle 09-08-2003, 06:05 PM I've had mines since 200,it's a windows ME,i think.It still runs fine!
I bought my current system in November, 2002.
brownsocks 09-08-2003, 06:20 PM mines 3 years now. so obsolet it's a 1500 dollar paperweight compared to the new ones!

Mijada 09-08-2003, 06:26 PM I've had this computer for about a year and a half.
Rhiannon 09-08-2003, 06:30 PM too long. 1999 I think....it is so horrible
fr00ti 09-08-2003, 06:41 PM Since July 2001.... 2002...... I seriously can't remember.
Brian 09-08-2003, 06:44 PM The one I'm using right now, my laptop, is 3+ months old. I got it for a graduation present. My father's computer is a couple of years old. My mother's computer, some kind of IMac, is at least over a year old.
PZelda 09-08-2003, 06:52 PM (Tip: To check how old your computer is, turn your monitor around and check the manufacture date on the back. There's always a sticker on the back of your monitor with a manufacture date. Add on about 1-2 months to it and that is most likely the date you purchased it.)
As for me....WAY too old. I am still using my ORIGINAL monitor from 1996! Yes, that's right, you heard me correctly. 1996. I was in 6th grade then. The main CPU I am using now is used and is from March 2001. I STILL have my original '96 CPU with Windows 95 that I use only in case of emergencies, like last month with the Blaster worm..This computer (the '01 one) has XP Pro on it and it kept crashing so I had to switch over. The one I'm on now has 184MB of RAM and a 10GB HD. That's just enough to get me around. But, I'd really like a new computer. :)
GAH. The CPU from '96 has only 16MB of RAM and a 1.19GB HD!! I can remember when 16MB was king.

¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 09-08-2003, 07:08 PM Ive had mine since 6th grade, and this one since last year.. but the monitor since 2000. The computer next to me is the old one from 2000, and the monitor was given to us about a year or 2 ago. This is the only one we use though.

:eek2: If I'm doing the math right, you've had your computer since 1995. You've beat me at the oldest CPU, but can you beat my old monitor? :D
pandora_spocks 09-08-2003, 07:16 PM I've had my new computer since January of this year, but I still have my old one too.
Sean Snow 09-08-2003, 07:18 PM My family got this computer in February 2002. We still have the old one, which we got in May 1998. The old one seems ancient compared to this one.
dawsongirl 09-08-2003, 07:21 PM Since...2001? I think so.
~LadyJess~ 09-08-2003, 07:29 PM since early 2002 I think
I've had this computer for about a month.
bandito 09-08-2003, 08:28 PM I've had mine since May of this year.
Tuesday Weld 09-08-2003, 08:39 PM a year and a half and it's still crappy as ever. :(
*PinkLady* 09-08-2003, 08:58 PM Two and a half years too long.
ConservativeBalla 09-08-2003, 10:10 PM I've had this computer since, like, '99, and I love it. 'Course, the Hard Drive's been replaced, about a year and a half ago, and some Sim(m?) cards have been added. It was custom-made; and folks, getting a computer custom made is VERY much better than buying some $500 system off the shelf at a retail store. They load those systems up with so much JUNK, and I'm convinced some of it is minor spyware/adware.
musicradio77 09-08-2003, 10:31 PM I first had a computer since 1995 and my stepdad had Windows 3.1. The internet wasn't ready yet. So a year later, the system has Windows 95 on it. When he gave me my computer since 1999. I want to go to AOL. In 2001, my uncle gave me my laptop with Windows 98 on it. Last year. My Mom and my brother bought me an HP computer with Windows 98 on it. i had it for a year and Windows 98 kept crashing on my system. When Chris Dugan came to Heather Lane, he upgraded to Windows XP and thank heavens I got it working on my HP computer crash free.

AnaheimPMWitch 09-09-2003, 12:01 AM I just bought this Laptop I have NOW at the beginning of the Summer so its still pretty new
Crimson and Clover 09-09-2003, 12:05 AM Ive had this one since January or around then. Our last one finda blew up and my brother has it.
Mr. Television 09-09-2003, 12:17 AM I've had this one for about 3 1/2 years and its crappy too. I'm having trouble with the mouse right now. The rast of the computer is crappy too.
Small Wonderian 09-09-2003, 01:03 AM I've had my computer for about 4 years now.
Stormtracker TF 09-09-2003, 01:16 AM I have two computers, Our First Computer, thats over three years old (Bought it in March of '00) and a newer one that we got in about late 2001. Their both Dell Dimensions.
Blair_Warner02 09-09-2003, 08:21 AM Mine is 8 months old. Our other one is about 1 year old and it runs slow as hell (I suspect spyware/viruses but I don't have time to fool with it right now) The one we had before that is from March 2000 but the modem fried 2 years later and it got fixed and we gave it to my mom's bf. My grandpa had a computer in the early '90's that he probably had for about 10 years and then he gave it to my uncle who probably still has it now. Then he built his own computer it's probably about 4 years old it hasn't been in use since he died two years ago. He never used it to go on the net because he never trusted the net.

;) I have a Vic20 that I got in 1982 that still works (whee - I'm playing GORF!!!),
but currently I have about 4 different machines, its hard to say how old any of them are because I keep cannibalizing them off of each other, but the ones I use most often:
AMD Duron 1.1, 512MB RAM, 40GB HDD, generic 64MB MX200
AMD Athlon 2400, 768MB RAM, 120GB HDD, generic 64MB MX440
Intel P3 450, 320MB RAM, 30GB HDD, ATI 8MB All-in-Wonder
...and an assortment of random leftover parts that may become something
what I want is one of those Shuttle (http://us.shuttle.com/specs2.asp?pro_id=279) miniboxes (http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDk5) , or a laptop (http://www.alienware.com/system_pages/area-51m.aspx)

Brad Russ 09-09-2003, 11:10 AM Iv'e had my computer for 2 years, and one month. I got it in August 2001 at an auction for $150.00.
AMackII 09-11-2023, 11:24 PM I been having my new Chromebook one since Late February but I’m still trying to get the online stuff from my old ACER computer(that I have kept it since 2011) during the last few months.
ThisLittlePiggy 09-12-2023, 01:29 AM Toshiba Laptop 8 years
DJM77 09-12-2023, 07:56 PM If my PC makes it until December then it will be 10 years old.
Fleet 09-19-2023, 03:27 AM My current computer is a little over 6 years old (July, 2017). Brand is Lenovo.
biffbronson 09-19-2023, 06:38 AM I use an HP19 all-in-one desktop, I think it's now 7 years old. I also have an Acer laptop that died after a few years, and a very old IBM PC from the late 1980s with floppy disk drive that still works. My phone also has internet capability.
rusty spike 09-19-2023, 11:16 AM I have two Dell computers, one from 2003 and another from 2011. Both still work.
What's the secret?
They have never connected to the internet. They still run the original programs which were installed by cd-rom. One has windows xp and the newer one has windows vista.
I have burned thru many laptops (which are internet ready). They get dropped, spilled and stop working (Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and Windows 11).
Penny Lane 09-20-2023, 11:14 AM My husband bought me my first computer in 1999 while I was recuperating after hospitalization. I was really incapacitated and the computer saved my sanity as I was confined at home for a long time. My Mom get hers at the same time and we learned to use it together. Since then I have had 4 PC's and 2 years ago I got my first laptop.
Torgo 09-20-2023, 12:42 PM The current desktop PC I mainly use is a couple of years old.
Still have one of my older PCs that still runs and use it for older games.
The very first computer I remember using was my family's Texas Instrument TI-99/4A, parents bought it cheap when it was discontinued.
The first PC I bought myself, an Acer. Early 90s, bought it at Incredible Universe. I think the first game I played on it was SimCity 2000.
Penny Lane 09-20-2023, 01:22 PM I still use my PC occasionally to scan and print.
Yong Fang 09-21-2023, 03:20 AM We have an Apple desktop but it sits on a desk not in use. We have had it for several years. My wife and I entertain ourselves with I-phones. I have an Apple 7 which I have had for (wow) about seven years. It even has a home button on it. My wife has a newer Chinese made phone. We do not watch a television and have not for at least ten years. Our mobile devices are our televisions.
I also have two Apple IPads but the devices are basically worthless. It will not download anything anymore since the applications are too advanced for the ten plus year old device. I have an excellent pinball game on it which is about the only reason I have it around.
I think we are probably the same as millions of other people.
