View Full Version : Ants
Montana Ponine 09-07-2003, 09:12 PM Okay, I really don't like ants. I hate it when they invade homes. They're gross. Disgusting. Downright annoying.
However.
I was outside in my backyard...my dad and sister had given my dog a bath earlier this afternoon so of course all the water had drowned all of the ants in the backyard when the tub was emptied. All the water had dried up, leaving all these dead ants everywhere. And when I looked closer I realized there was a live ant carrying a dead one on his back. He dropped him at one point, spent like five minutes trying to pick him back up again, and kept going.
I'm sure it is a commonly known fact that ants do this, but I'd never seen this before as I don't spend too much time studying ants and I know this is going to sound pathetic, but it devastated me. It was so sad! It made me feel really awful. Of course, the fact that I had just watched "A Bug's Life" earlier this week didn't help any.
I don't really know the point of this post, LOL. It'll probably get like 3 replies (or less). Just....talk about ants. *shrug*
Kay Scarpetta 09-07-2003, 09:15 PM I HATE ANTS! They are some of the most disgusting things ever. Anything that is small, is in the insect category, and has more than 2 legs is on my list of nasty things.
Brian 09-07-2003, 09:16 PM I hate ants, too. I remember several years ago there was a 3-6 month period in which ants appeared all over the house. It was gross, annoying, and just plain irritating.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 09-07-2003, 09:17 PM Ants bug me, but Im not afraid of them.
brownsocks 09-07-2003, 09:18 PM ha it got 4 replies! anyway ants was a funny movie, and ants don't hold out well agianst magnifing glasses;)
Crimson and Clover 09-07-2003, 09:20 PM I hate ants. I was planting some flowers and I layed my spade down to talk to my mom and when I went back over to it it was covered in ants. I threw it halfway across the yard, got my flowers and planted them in a differnet spot.
phoebe7165 09-07-2003, 11:44 PM I was camping some time ago, and walking through the woods one night. I tripped and fell on a fire ant mound. You want to talk about burning and PAIN?!! They were all in my shirt and I took my shirt off in front of the group of people I was with. One guy took my shirt to shake the ants out and I remember he said that I've got a colony of ants in my shirt. The next day I felt like crap because I had a whole bunch of ant bites on my stomach, on my back, all over one of my arms, and even some on my head. Simply miserable.
See, you did get more than 3 replies!!
Swimfan85 09-07-2003, 11:51 PM although I am an active person, I am not the wildnerness type, ew I hate camping with a passion, ew creepy, but I did find myself feeling bad for killing a bug...well flushing it down the toliet, like I started thinking about its family and how they prob. felt...alright I was having a really emotional day...
Fleet 09-08-2003, 12:14 AM Yeah, ants sure are irritating. Once I parked one of my cars close to a bush that had ants on it. I opened up the trunk a few hours later, and there were hundreds of ants crawling around in it. I bought some ant spray and that got rid of them. I'm glad they didn't get into the inside of the car.
*PinkLady* 09-08-2003, 10:52 AM I'm not scared of ants, but I find them crawling all over my house a lot and they are quite annoying.
webuster 09-08-2003, 01:36 PM First I'll say-the movie Antz was ten times better than a Bugs Life- even thought Bugs Life got all the hype and Antz didn't-but Antz was better.
Also- I kinda like ants, but I'm not sure if they bit, a couple times I lifted them up and after a while your arm itches. I also found a few holes in the garden wall they have made and on one day in summer I saw a couple of them lift a teeny-tiny dead, fly thingy up the walls into their nests- bugs fascinate me in that way-to think they have survival processes not unlike humans.
Georgia's on my Mind 09-08-2003, 03:31 PM i hate all bugs. BAH!
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 09-08-2003, 03:46 PM Ok...I'll go against everyone here. Even though bugs freak me out, I only really hate them if they sting, or suck your blood (wasps, bees mosquitos). Ants have never bothered me so...I'm one of those people who gets all sad when someone sees a bug, though. Like, I'll flip out and say, "Someone get rid of it!" But I'll make them take it outside, not kill it. If they do I feel awful. They don't know they're intruding...:(
Sterling Holobyte 09-08-2003, 05:59 PM I only don't like ants when they invade my house, otherwise I leave them alone. In fact, I'll go out of my way to not step on them outside. I find them pretty fascinating. I used to watch them for hours when I was a kid.
That said, when they do invade your house you have to wipe them out at the source, or else they're just going to keep coming back. Even if you only see one, you can be pretty sure that there will be more on the way. He's probably a scout/advance man and he'll lead his whole colony to your house if you let him. Sprays don't work for very long, and those ant traps are iffy, I've found; sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. One thing I have found that worked completely is Terro Ant Killer. It comes in liquid form and you just put a drop on a few cardboard pieces and leave them in places where ants might roam, and you'll never have an ant problem again. Just make sure your pets or kids can't get at it because it is potent stuff.
Mistress Slap 09-09-2003, 02:50 AM Ants are evil. Today at school there were a bunch of ants crawling all over the lunch room. It was sick and wrong. -.-;
Polniaczek033 09-09-2003, 08:20 PM i hate ants
Small Wonderian 09-09-2003, 08:25 PM I don't have a problem with ants. They are way better than a lot of other creepy crawlers in the insect world.
Max Whittaker 09-09-2003, 10:10 PM I love ants! They are a big part of nature's clean-up crew! Even when they bite me, I don't blame them! It's always my fault. Otherwise, they basically leave me alone.
Lucylover22 09-09-2003, 10:14 PM Ants are very annoying. They don't scare me though.
