My brother once told me the first time he heard "Blackened", it blew him away. Thanks to him, he got me listening to Metallica, among many other bands & solo musicians.
As for my list, I'm almost embarrassed to post some of my favorite songs from the 80's, especially the early 80's. It wasn't all hard rock!!

I checked Lyrics.com and I found out that there is no song called "Animal" by Van Halen. However, there is a song they did called "Panama." I must have thought it was "Animal" because it sounded like it but it's "Panama." Here's the lyrics.
Jump back, what's that sound ?
Here she comes, full blast and top down.
Hot shoe, burnin' down the avenue.
Model citizen zero discipline
Don't you know she's coming home with me?
You'l lose her in the turn.
I'll get her!
Panama, Panama
Panama, Panama
Ain't nothin' like it, her shiny machine.
Got the feel for the wheel, keep the moving parts clean.
Hot shoe, burnin' down the avenue,
Got an on-ramp comin' through my bedroom.
Don't you know she's coming home with me?
You'll lose her in the turn.
I'll get her!
Yeah, we're runnin' a little bit hot tonight.
I can barely see the road from the heat comin' off of it.
Ah, you reach down, between my legs,
ease the seat back.
She's blinding, I'm flying,
Right behind the rear-view mirror now.
Got the feeling, power steering,
Pistons popping, ain't no stopping now!
Panama, Panama
Panama, Panama

As far as I recall, Creedence Clearwater Revival broke up in the early 70's. But their lead singer John Fogerty did make a good album in the 80's, "Centerfield", with songs like "Old Man Down the Road", "Rock & Roll Girls,", "Vance Can't Dance", and the title song. He followed up with the album "Eye of the Zombie."

Btw, I noticed a few non-80's songs from midnightrider in his choices of the Top 1000 of the 80's. I'm not sure if Janis Joplin qualifies....
Oops, I'm embarrassed. I wish I could find an emoticon for embarrassment. It was just another example of me not reading good enough. I thought you were asking what the top thousand songs of all time were, not just the 80's. Oh well, maybe I'll read better next time.
That's cool Captain that you got the chance to see Keith perform live. In my opinion he is the greatest Christian artist of all time! Unfortunately with me only being born in 1981, I never had that opportunity. It must have been awesome.
Anyway, here's a few 80' Christian classics I'd like to add to your list:
Lord I'm Gonna Love You - Keith Green
Open Your Eyes - Keith Green
You Are The One - Keith Green
A Billion Starving People - Keith Green
Grace By Which I Stand Keith Green
Create In Me A Clean Heart - Keith Green
Draw Me - Keith Green
Jesus Commands Us To Go - Keith Green
Oh Lord, You're Beautiful - Keith Green
When I First Trusted You - Keith Green
Romans VII - Keith Green

Here's some emoticon/smilies for embarrassment: :o (I think that one is embarrassed, a red face), I use these--:bonk:  ("accident-making" smilies) and .
A lot of people probably feel Keith Green was the greatest Christian performer, he had so much conviction and passion for God that was unfeigned and unpretentious. He ruffled a lot of feathers and criticized what he saw was a growing "industry" of Christian music long before it made the major "crossover" moves in the mid-80's. I'm definitely going to include these songs in my list! Anyone who saw him and listened to him back then will agree
with these choices. Sadly, Keith Green died in a plane crash in Texas in 1982. It was tragic, but later that summer, fellow Christian musicians Michael and Stormie Omartian and 2nd Chapter of Acts began a concert tour to carry out his final message: Jesus commanded us to go out into the world with the Gospel message of salvation (which might be a little more difficult to do with American-made wars and such...). Keith Green's wife and others believe that if his death had any meaning, it was to make his message (of CHRIST) grow wider among listeners ("If a seed dies in the ground...it grows and bears much fruit...").
Funny how I can talk about all the controversial stuff on the Current Events boards about gays and Jaci Velazquez' movie roll choices, etc., and still admit my preference for Keith Green. That's not so strange to me, it's just my ability to see things from all sides.
