Here in Columbus, OH where Mikes sister lives there is a shop called Colleens collectables run by a lady named Colleen where she sells old records magazine & collectables like that etc. We like to go ther every yr. We went yesterday & lo & behold she had the ROLLING STONE magazine with Freddie in it so we went & bought that. She said she used to see Freddie in concert in NYC at the IMPROV & CATCH A RISING STAR in the early 70's pre-CATM. She used to be a singer & guitar player & either performed there or near there. She used to go there & see stars like Freddie & David Brenner etc beofre they became big. She saw his act alot & said he was really good. She evidently talked to him but couldn remember what they said & was too nervous to have asked him out. She talked like he was nice & good looking & said she & other never dreamed he'd do what he did committing suicide. She said she used to watch him drink his champagne sitting in the next table over. Man if I'd been her I would've been trying to get him to ask me out LOL! She said she used to live in NYC & Doc Pomus the famous songwriter once asked her if she'd be interested in singing for him & gave her his business card but she never took him up on it not realizing he was the Doc Pomus. Neat story huh? :)

Thanks for sharing such a great story Cheryl. Just to be that lady for one night huh? I could have sat and watched Freddie forever.

Wow! That's neat to have met someone who saw Freddie in person! Don't you wish you had Doc Brown's time machine from "Back to the Future" so you could go back in time and catch one of his live performances? :D

Cheryl,
What kind of collectibles does this lady sell? I know you said old magazines and records, but I was wondering if you could be more specific. I am going to visit Mariposa soon and we want to see her, but I want to take my hubby there too. He is into old stuff, but he was wondering what she sells, so the trip would be worth his while. Cause Mariposa and I just want to go to talk to Colleen! LOL

She has so much stuff to be honest with ya I'm not sure what all she has. But she has books, records, magazines, Beatles stuff etc. To get to her store you go on Cleveland Avenue like you ar e going downtown & not in the direction of the Polaris Mall. You turn onto Oakland Park off of Cleveland Ave. She is on Oakland Park in a big building that is kind off of the road. She has so much stuff you wouldn't believe it. Tell her & Mariposa we said hi! Have a good trip & viisit with Mariposa... :)

And thanx mucho for the directions--that sounds very familiar!

Sorry we couldn't get together when you were here, but I had my kids both going to school at the same hour for the first time in their lives and I didn't know how rough that would be, so I didn't want to make any plans. Maybe next year....:D
