I'm just curious to know what kind/type of VCRs everyone here owns. We own 3 - an RCA, JVC & a Sony (mine). Earlier this summer I got a VCR as a birthday gift. It was a Sharp with model number of V-H960U or something like that...anyway, I really liked it. It had a nice, clean, sharp picture and audio - 4 head Hi-Fi too...unfortunately, it had a couple things going against it. For one, it had no auto head cleaner, second, it had a cheap looking panel of some small LED lights in front to show the current operation - (VCR, Play, Rec, etc) instead of the standard illuminated LED display w/ clock. So, I decided to take it back when the Sony SLV-N500 went on sale at a different store. I got the Sony, and while it is ok picture & sound wise, alot of other things leave alot to be desired. First, the Sony emblem on the front is crooked, which is definitely an eyesore. Second, I don't know if that particular model just has an extra loud mechanism, but every time I insert or eject a cassette it gives this loud, grinding, clicking, almost on the verge of tape chewing sound. I at first just thought this was normal, but I've come to realize that it's probably not, and I probably got a bad VCR. While the tapes don't come out terribly bad, when you look at the tape surface there are some noticable nicks...anyone know if this is normal? Considering it is Sony - the leader in all things audio/video, you'd expect more... Anyway, I've gone on enough...does anyone here own the same Sony that could attest to what I'm saying?? i'ts just too bad that it's too late to return it, because I'd do that in a heartbeat...:(

I have 2 TV/VCR combo's - one I use for dubbing, the other I use for my upstairs TV. I have a Sanyo (like it), a Sylvania (it's a week old, still debatable), a Sony (like it, Hi-Fi Stereo, etc), a Toshiba and a Walmart one that only cost $40. I hate that one. It jumps when I play thigns in it, the tracking mechanism sucks. I want to replace it someday but I can't right now.

Some of the VCR's play things jittery (like Blossom tapes I had, I could not get them to track at all). One of these days I'd like to invest in a really good VCR. I do have a PAL/SeCAM VCR but it needs cleaned (the heads do) so I dont really use it much right now.

Right now my Sanyo is the VCR I like the most.

I used to have a Sanyo and I got rid of it. Because the tape was starting to mess up. I have an Emerson VCR.

I have 2 RCA'S 1 zenith and 1 Emerson.

I use the 1 rca and the Emerson one for dubbing. They pick up some tracking though because i have to get new wires for them.

The other rca likes to eat my tapes so i dont use that one much and the zenith one is like 11 yrs old and it still works fine. but i cannot dub on it because it makes everything sound warped, but i can still put tapes in it and watch them.

I have a Panasonic TV, VCR combo and it's out lived every other VCR in my house. I think it's the best one I've ever had. And the quality is so great, I mean it has all these features that others don't. I think it's wonderful.

I use HIFI Toshibas, SOny and JVC. They all work great, but they are high end, so high price. They are also a little heavier in weight than some others on the market. I also use to have 2 Samsungs, burned them up when I use to sell rare videos every week. They worked great though and were a little cheaper. I stay away from Sanyo, Emerson, and other off brands. I also buy the 19 Micron head models as they provide the best clarity and always dub using RCA cables through a video stabilizer.

I have 4 4 head Panasonics that are like tanks. They've ran perfectly for 7 or 8 years already and 1 Magnavox that is equally as good.
I've bought Panasonics since the early 80s and they've always lasted over 10 years each.

We have a Go-Video (dual deck), Broksonic, Panasonic, and Sanyo (with TV Guardian). Each serve a purpose, though the one we least care for is our newest, the Broksonic (el cheapo brand).

ive a go video vhs duplication deck and a 6 head toshiba; both have a really clear freeze frame pic in SP; thats one of the things i always relate with quality.

I told myself id NEVER buy a dvd player because you cant just record like you can on vhs, and i like making my own stuff. Well, now that vcd creation is possible i have an apex ad-1500 and i love it because it can do ANYTHING.

we have 2 panasonic vcrs one is 3 years old and has a really quiet mechanism the other is brand new and has a much louder mechanism both a great you cant go wrong with panasonic or these brands

Does anyone who owns Sony VCRs have the SLV-N500 model? They had previously produced the SLV-N55, but recently switched it to the -N500, the main difference being a lack of auto head cleaner in the -N55...?
