Join the gang of Gilligan's Island for a 36 episode tour courtesy of Warner Bros Home Video. Warner Bros will release the first season of the classic show in 2004. While we don't know when the set will set sail, we're positive this will be a hot set. 40 years after it first aired, the exploits of Gilligan, the Skipper, the millionaire and his wife, the movie star, the Professor and Mary Ann have made us laugh and it's such wonderful news to hear that the show will be available on DVD.

gohan1996 09-04-2003, 09:00 PM Will it be in B&W
w6xrl4 09-05-2003, 08:21 AM Let's hope for black and white and the pilot episode as an extra.
Great news indeed!:happyface
JWood201 09-05-2003, 09:08 AM I'm sure it'll be in black and white. DVDs are usually meant to restore the show to it's original format - which includes not using colorized versions and showing the episodes unedited.
Original pilot as an extra would be awesome!

I just sent you an PM thinking you didn't find this out. Oh boy. there are only 3 seasons.. I wonder if this is going to be in a box set or a three panel fold-out like All In The Family. Just think, if Gilligan's Island is being released Brady Bunch might just have a chance to be released. I better go check.
TheOtherMovieStar 09-05-2003, 06:49 PM I'll be able to watch Duke anytime I want!!! *high pitched squeels* I'm so GIDDY now!!! Oooo, The Professor... The St. Gilligan Episode... shirt undone... hyperventilation:D :D

Will they be the colorized version like the ones on TBS were?

I'll try to find where I read it, but it will be in B&W.
There is still a question of whether the original pilot will be included, but I would suspect so.

TVShowsonDVD.com, which broke the news, has updated info where they state the 1st Season will absolutely be in black & white (there would be a national outcry if it wasn't).
I'm thrilled this is happening. The first season of GI is easily my favorite. While I do hope they release all three seasons, I'll probably only purchase season 1.
B&W "as my signature indicates, I love the old black & white shows and would be mad as a hornet if they dared colorize this show, or any other, for dvd release" fan
AngelofLaughter 09-20-2003, 12:13 AM Awesome! This is so great! Even though I have every episode on tape from taping them all I'm still thrilled! Hopefully there will be special features!

Almost two months ago we first informed you (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=643) that Gilligan's Island was heading to DVD. Now Warner has announced the full details for this long-awaited release.
After a three-hour pleasure tour, the S.S. Minnow was washed ashore on an uncharted South Pacific island, leaving behind what would become TV's most famous castaways. Now join Gilligan, the Skipper too, and the rest for a 3 DVD tour of The Complete First Season. 916 minutes of black-and-white hilarity will be found over by the lagoon, and that's not all! The rare Pilot Episode is here, complete with commentary by creator Sherwood Schrwartz. Tropical Tidbits trivia, the Gilligan's Island Survial Guide, and a "Before The Three-Hour Tour" featurette round out the supplements.
As you can see from the shot of the cover art below (which Warner tells us is not necessarily final, and subject to change), the list price is $39.98. The boat leaves the dock on this set on February 3, 2004.

ficlopri 01-11-2004, 06:32 PM THe mostly unseen pilot with a different Professor and Ginger is all that seems worth getting the DVD for. WE've almost all seen GI a trillion times And it's not actually even a fact that the pilot will even be on the DVD.
barwars 01-11-2004, 08:13 PM then whats the point of buying any tv show or movie on video or dvd??
By what you're saying.... its useless to buy something if you've already seen it more than once.
I think that its great that this show is coming to DVD.
Id buy it if there were no special features at all. But with the extras.... it gives an even better reason to own it.
ficlopri 01-15-2004, 03:50 AM The Man From Uncle would be a great show to put on DVD. It's not a show most of us have every ep of ten times or more.
JWood201 01-15-2004, 02:00 PM Even though I've seen every episode tons of times, I'm still going to buy it mainly because the episodes are unedited. New scenes that TV Land and TBS have edited out! Plus, DVDs last longer and take up less space than my tons of VHS tapes. Overall, the DVDs are a good investment no matter how many times you've seen the episodes on TV. And TVshowsonDVD.com did report that the original pilot (which many of us have not seen) will be in the DVD set as an extra feature - another reason to buy.

Bingo. The beauty of buying complete seasons on DVD is that may not have been seen since the original airing.
I really hope this sells well because I want to see seasons two and three also come out. My DVD shelf is filled with shows for which I'm still waiting for season two. From the research I've done, it appears that I won't ever be getting the remaining seasons of "Mary Tyler Moore" or "Larry Sanders". Even my "Law and Order" set looks like it's going to be an orphan for awhile longer.
Bottom line...if you're a fan of "Gilligan's Island", buy the DVD.
By the way, I've seen the "unaired pilot" (when it aired on TBS several years back). It is good to have for historical purposes, but it really doesn't stack up well with the main series in my opinion if only because of the casting changes.
Steve's Roadhouse 01-21-2004, 04:59 PM I'm going to get it. It looks like quite a bargain for 37 episodes. Yes, it's in B&W. I wonder if the color seasons will cost more? I've never seen the Pilot, so seeing any new footage of GI after all these years will be exciting. I remember seeing the first episode "Two on a Raft" for the first time after having watcged the show for years. I buy one DVD set per month, and I think February will be Gilligan. Like to hear some reviews first though when released.
sam56 01-26-2004, 04:26 PM I can't wait until it comes out I will ask it for my birthday I am a big fan of Gilligan's Island and been waiting for this moment for a long time only 2 mouths until they are release.
