I received a short e-mail today from Doug Denoff. He says he's been very busy with different projects. He did say that his dad has a copy of the reunion script and thinks it is great. I hope so!! Doug hasn't seen it yet. I referred him to this board for reviews of the Alan Brady Show. I didn't see it, so didn't feel that I could comment, but thought he would be interested in reading what you all had to say about it.
Thought you would like to know!

Lolac,

What about the Season sets? Is Doug going to carry them, or not? I'm assuming you didn't get info on that, or I think you would have told us.

I'm still, even at this late hour (ok, not so late, but getting there), willing and desirous to give Doug my business with these sets. But he needs to get his "store" up and running really fast.

B&WFan, I specifically asked him about his "store" on the website, but he didn't answer my question. When I replied to his e-mail, I asked him again to let us know when his store was up and running. We'll see. I've already pre-ordered both sets from Amazon, but I'm also willing to cancel when his shopping cart is on line. I asked him what was going on behind the scenes, but he was vague and just said he has been involved with many projects. Who knows? I sure hope he keeps his word that all 5 seasons will be made available. At this point, I have no reason to believe that they won't be. I'm trying to be optimistic. I can't wait for October 21!!!

Well, we've seen this "disappearing act" on numerous occasions over the last couple of years. It's a shame, but I can't say I'm surprised.

As for Doug keeping "his word that all 5 seasons will be made available," I don't think it's in his hands, in any way, to make this happen. This puppy is in Image's hands to either make it happen or not. I know Doug has said he will be there to pick up the pieces if Image doesn't follow thru with seasons 3-5, but personally I'm not confident that he can do it. Our best shot is to see Image go ahead with their plans to release the other 3 sets over the course of next year.

It's too bad Doug seems so uninterested in keeping people current with news, and, more importantly, utilizing his own web site as a powerful PR vehicle.

It really wouldn't take much to turn his web site into more of an asset. As it is now, it contradicts itself and doesn't inspire much confidence that the project will take shape.

It seems such a waste, especially when there are so many of us with experience in this field willing to help out.

JoeF, I was just sitting here thinking that very thing. Doug has truly squandered some golden opportunities here. He is wasting a very valuable resource and taking us for granted. I agree with you wholeheartedly.

the shopping cart thing has just become a hassle, like most programming projects. so for now we're just going to link thru amazon.

but, as we said from the beginning, place your amazon orders thru our site, and we'll still make 15%.

and as far as all the seasons, i've continually said that the manufacturing IS out of my hands for now...it's up to Image. If and when they go beyond seasons 1 and 2, we'll sell them via whatever means gets you the best price.

once it's a huge multi-million dollar success we're going to sue the hell out of WMA and Brownstein.

anybody who wants to contribute to help make our site better, please email me at doug@dickvandykeshow.com.

and HOLD ON TO SOMETHING...thumbs or not.

Wow. Doug, you sound so deflated. I hope all works out for you in the end and for us as well. We want all 5 seasons. I've pre-ordered through your link to Amazon. Let's hope they sell well!

Yea, I can imagine that Doug is pretty bummed (and ticked) at the way things have gone, but as he said, it's out of his hands at this point. He's doing the right thing - trying to help get the sets out, and then taking his personal issues up with Brownstein and WMA only after the fans get the series.

It's disappointing to me that I took the trouble of writing Doug, offering help and describing some of my extensive experience in web design, editing and e-sales, and didn't even get the courtesy of a reply.

Again, I think he's wasting a tremendous opportunity here, and the result may well be that The Dick Van Dyke Show won't live on for future generations.

That web site probably costs more sales than it generates, and still refers to petty disputes no one cares about and makes promises that clearly shouldn't be made.

A real shame, as there are only a handful of truly quality comedies looking back over the history of television.

Well, as much as I have defended Doug on this message board, I can't defend his lack of responses to email. I've had the same thing happen to me on more than one occasion, Joe. I think that is especially bad when he solicits email correspondence on his site ("write to me").

As for missed opportunities, I also must agree. While I believe that he has been shafted by WM & Brownstein, he still could have done more with the site, IMHO. My hope is that he will indeed let all the sets be released before he actually pursues any legal action. This way we can all get what we've been waiting for!

I also hope that Doug will be there just in case the first two sets don't meet the sales expectations of Image and they drop their plans to release seasons 3-5 next year. Then hopefully Doug can pick up where they left off and get us all the episodes. So in that area, I hope he sticks around to see what happens. But that will be up to him.
