View Full Version : Stop Telemarketers!!!
Brad Russ 08-30-2003, 10:06 AM I just thought I'd let everyone here know that you have until Sunday, August 31st to add your name to the National Do Not Call Registry which blocks unsolicited phone calls from coming to your home. I believe you can submit up to three or four numbers. The link to them is: www.donotcall.gov. Your name will be on the list until 2008. Be sure to tell your friends. And for all the kids here, be sure to get your parents permission first! Just thought I'd pass along this info.
laceyinthesky 08-30-2003, 10:43 AM How soon are people supposed to stop calling whenever you put your number on the list? I put my number on there a month ago and am still getting annoying as hell recordings at least twice a day.

I'm not sure. I just put my name on there yesterday, so it hasn't yet taken affect for me. On the site it says it stops most of these calls, so unfortunately some will still be able to get through. On the link I listed I believe there's a place where you can report that you're still getting these calls, you might want to check into that.
Mysty Eyes 08-30-2003, 10:56 AM You can continue to register after August 31; this is an ongoing process.
According to the site:
If you register:
June 27 – August 31, 2003
Most telemarketers must stop calling
and you may file a complaint:
After October 1, 2003
If you register:
September 1, 2003 or after
Most telemarketers must stop calling
and you may file a complaint:
Three months after you register

Oh, I guess I didn't read carefully enough. That's the last time I get my information from CNN, they said you have until Sunday to add your name to the list, it's cool that they're giving people more time.

Hey, guys. I have something to confess:
When I was in high school, I worked as a telemarketer.
That said, I've also registered for the Do Not Call List.

ABlairican Pie 08-31-2003, 04:44 PM Gee, I just love my job. I call people for charity, and I like talking to people and helping, but boy, it gets crazy. But I understand about people actually getting upset about telemarketers, a few months ago, I got called by people trying to sell subscriptions to the Seattle Times, and I couldn't tell them that I was not able to afford it, and they give me their schpiel and make it seem like they had me ready to start that subscription right off the bat--BEFORE I had actually consented to it!! I got so pissed off I hung up without another word. I like the paper, but I hate feeling conned.
Ewan's My Man 08-31-2003, 05:00 PM Yea, we signed up. My mom's so nice with telemarketers she's just like, "I'm sorry, I'm not interested" and she hangs up. I either say "I'm not interested" or I hang up halfway through whatever their saying. My friends brother is hilarious. One time I was at their house and he's all talking to a telemarketer like he's interested and he's like, "Wait, what? Hold on...I gotta turn up my hearing aid" and he hung up.
Jenya 08-31-2003, 09:52 PM Has anyone ever used the Tele-Zapper? We have it, and we get no phone calls from telemarketers at all. :)
