I'm startin' this poll cause I can't believe that, when asked on the "Cheers" 200th episode if Carla is mean, Rhea answered, "She's not mean, she's just honest."

What do YOU think?

Personally, despite what Rhea said, I think Carla is definitely, intentionally mean!

Not all the time, of course, but a good deal of the time...I can think of several examples where she's not "honest", she's just plain ol' mean! (but still funny, lol) :)

I think a little bit of both ;) to ppl like cliff and diane shes intentionally mean to them because she doesn't like them but at the same time shes usually being honest... but doesnt always do it in the nicest way

I would definitely say both. Sure Carla could be mean when she wanted to(especially to poor Cliff) But she was also brutally honest and sometimes that was mistaken for her being a meanie.

I don't think she was ever really "mean" to cliff or Diane...I mean whenever She did say something witty Diane would say something back.....she was brutally honest. I mean when i'm watching Cheers sometimes and the characters are doing something I start screaming to the tv. "what are you doing" or "no no no stop it" lol and carla for some reason always does something to fix it...lol ok i don't know if that made any sense but w/e lol. She's a realist...the salt of the earth...and I mean she deserves a bad mood once in a while...c'mon 8 kids on a barmaid's salary? That's tough.

Id say Both...she tells the MEAN truth. Lol

Hey Bails, Paula was on SNL. It was the one where they had the Paula Abdul Cheerleading thing, she was so funny. Not to mention Hot!:D

I also think Carla had a lot of crap in her life. Maybe that's why she can be mean.

Mean, angry, and nuts! Whoever wrote Carla's lines, sure had a lot of anger issues, and Carla became their spokeswoman. I know people in real life like Carla, and they are no picnic to be around. They are not happy unless they are making somebody feel stupid.

I feel that Carla is just being totally honest and almost everything she says is true although sometimes she says it in a mean way

There is a difference in being "honest" and being mean and nasty. Being honest isnt just covering negativity, honesty isnt a licence to belittle and hurt people.
Those who admire the Carla character, probably wish they could sound off like her and get back at the people in their daily lives, who bug them. Imagine a world where everyone sounds and looks like Carla or a Roseanne---ohh we'd be swimmig in Honesty then.

Amen!! There are several people at my job like that...ugh.

And I have to agree honesty does NOT always equal "sayin' things in a mean way".

Sometimes the things Carla and people like her (i.e., people at my job) say are not true at all, they just say that stuff to purposefully make someone else feel bad or look bad. I know Carla doesn't do that all the time, but I also don't think she's "honest" 100% of the time.

We should provide some good quotes to back up both honesty and meanness, lol...
