View Full Version : Nancy McKeon's religious preferance/religious faith.

I'm just curious because in the past, I've read somewhere on a Facts of Life page saying that Lisa Whelchel was a Christian, Mindy Cohn was a Jew, and Nancy McKeon had converted to Islam, and that Nancy's religious faith to Islam has prevented her from doing nude, semi-nude, bare midriff scenes, any sexy scenes, any sexy poses, and any action roles and roles that she was used to in earlier FOL seasons. I think in the late 80's during FOL, she did go on a trial marriage with an LA Kings player named Luk something. And I think she fell deeply in love with that guy, and I do beleive that he was Muslim and may have gotten her into the Islamic faith. Do any of you out there remember when she quit acting after FOL for 1 year when she went with another Islamic faithful named Michael Damion? And I do remember seeing her with him, and she was wearing the traditional Muslim womens head scarf and overclothes. Then she later broke it off with Mr. Damion and gave up on the Muslim/Islamic faith. Very brave of her, indeed, since not that many women can successfully break away from such a deep ancient religious faith since the man can beat her down if she did.

I wander what religious faith she is part of today. And if she's not religious today, that's okay, too.

I have never heard anything about Nancy McKeon practicing
Islam. In her Intimate Portrait they talk about her being religious, but I think she is Catholic, considering she went to
Catholic school, she's Irish, and on The Facts of Life she wore a cross necklace. I could be wrong about the Catholic idea, though.
Anyone else know?

Yes, she wore the cross on the Facts of Life only because her character was part Italian/part Polish and her character was Catholic. Her Character.

Well, I don't recall anything about her being Islam or anything like that. I would say she's probably Catholic, or maybe Christian. Considering she is Irish. But, the cross necklace doesn't mean that she is necessarily Catholic, I wear one and I'm Christian. As far as her wearing a cross because her Character was Catholic, I don't recall them ever really making a point to say that Jo is Catholic. In her IP, Alex Rocco said that she knows that God is where it's at, or something along those lines. I'd have to watch it again to see what he actually said. Anyway, my best guess is Catholic, or Christian.

I'd have to agree with you,1stRunFan. Although not having ever given it much thought until I started reading this subject, I would guess Catholic or Christian. I have NEVER heard of Ms.McKeon practicing Islam. BTW, I am Christian too!

I have never heard that she had practiced the Islamic faith at any point in her life. I thought she didnt go back for the begining of the 6th season cuz of some money thing and they slapped a lawsuit on her and she was back right then and there. I dont think she's islamic-LoL-that cracked me up, Im sry. Im thinking she's catholic like everyone said cuz thats wut I remember her saying on her IP.

I'm glad some of you think she is Christian, too. I said Catholic because that is a Christian religion, and I think I remember in her IP that she went to a Catholic school. Btw, I am a Christian also.

Uh yea...action roles...sexy scenes...yea...she wouldn't be playing Jinny Exstead if she couldn't do those...

She's kicked some people's ass and had her tongue down ppl's throat a ton of times...not to mention Jack and Jinny in the bathroom...*ahem*

Ok, I've never heard that she converted to Islam...or that she wore ANY of that. Now, do I have a problem with that religion? Not a chance. I think some of their customs are...different...but I don't have a problem with it. Do I believe that she converted to Islam and wore any of that? Not a chance. From what I've gathered and seen of her personality I can't see her doing that. Not only that, she's never mentioned, and I've never heard it NEwhere. I'm sure if she was walking around in that then it would be a much more well known fact. Also, "A Cry For Help" came out in 1989. That means she worked on it even before then. Since Facts ended in 88 it doesn't seem to me that gave up acting for a year...

Exactly. If she couldnt do any "sex" scences then she wouldnt have done A Cry For Help, Love Honor and Obey, In My Sister's Shadow, and The Division.
