A rude lady laughed at me and made fun of me at work last night. It's because I have several physical handicaps. WTF? An adult like her should know better than to make fun of a disabled child! (I'm 22, but look much younger.) I've been a cashier there for over four years, so I must be doing something right. Stupid idiots! I was so pissed off and upset that I cried to my friend there, who told me that woman is rude to everyone. I told her that if that customer laughs at me again, I'm telling that stupid bitch off!

I know. My mom works with mentally disabled people, and they went to an amusement park. People there, she said were very rude! I am 13 and I would never make fun of disabled people who are just the same as someone without disablities.

I'm sorry that happened to you. That lady deserves a whack.
:smash:

There ought to be a law against that. Is there a law I wonder?

That lady had NO right to do that to you! She should not be allowed back in the store. One of my best friends is physically handicapped. She has arthritis. She is 19 like me, but looks much younger. She is a VERY smart and intelligent person though. You or anyone else does not deserve to be treated like that!!

Im sorry that person was so mean to you. But you have to face that the world is full of A$$ holes. They can say what they want but they can never take away the love in your heart. You are the better person and you can rise above the hate. :talk:

Shrug the rude lady off as well as you can, Snoopy. :)

I know that every employer is required by law to provide a safe workplace environment, from both a physical and mental standpoint.
Since harrassment is illegal, your employer has a legal obligation to deal with this issue.
I would issue a complaint with the company, and I would also contact the agency that handles the American Disabilites Act (ADA). Don't let your employer brush this off.
Nobody, disability or not, should have to be subjected to any form of abuse, yet I suspect there must be a provision that offers extra protection for those with disabilites.

So sorry this happened to you. I guess you have to draw the line somewhere and not accept any ill treatment beyond that point. It's good that you decided to tell her off if it happens again. If your manager is any kind of human being at all, he will back you up. If not, you may want to start looking for a more supportive work environment. Good luck.

Ugh, that's pathetic. I could see how young children might laugh because they don't know better, but an adlut woman? That is idiotic.

Snoopy, you know how I feel about the general public's treatment towards people who work retail. So much for Americans being nicer to each other post 9/11. People who have never worked retail think they can take their bad day and bad mood in your store and take it out on the next person they face, and that unfortunately is you. These people have no idea what it's like working on the other side of the counter. Oh, how I wish I was behind her in line. I'd pull an Antonio(you know what I mean!). I'm sorry you had to encounter such a cold hearted shrew who either has something shoved you know where or to make herself feel better, she needs to belittle somebody else.

Thanks for your support, guys. :bighug: I'm not taking any more crap from customers for being disabled. If they don't like me, then they can just stay the :cuss: out of my line!

Janice made a good point, Snoopy, about you looking into the ADA. This is somethng you should learn about so you'll feel prepared if and when situations come up for you that make your life difficult.

There is a young girl who works at one of the grocery stores near where I live who has some sort of disability. She does her job well, and she is so sweet that I just enjoy being able to trade "hellos" with her. :)

Just ignore the rude people...I meet more rude and weird people at work then you could imagine. Something like that happened to me before...just ignore their rudeness. Although, on the other hand at the cvs at the mall, theres an eldery guy who works there and it takes him forever to ring things up, and its fustrating when i only have a 10 minute break and i have to spent 7 mins trying to buy a drink...but still, people shouldnt be rude...

That is so low class. It's stuff like that really makes me wish I could take around a baseball bat, knock the hell out of the idiots with no class and then shove the bat up their ass. Then, of course, I'll get a new bat and work on the next person. But I am sorry it happened to you. But you must keep this one thought in mind. Payback is a bitch. That bitch might have payback knocking on her door soon. And then she'll have to deal with the payback........Again, I'm sorry it happened.

The next time you see her in the store and she laughs at you, ask her what she finds so funny. That will put her in a spot where she has to answer your question with embaressment. There is no reason for you to cry over her dumb remarks. If you put a rude person like that in their place, they will most likely think twice next time before they open their big fat mouth.

Ugh, what an idiot. What's her problem? I would have said, "What's up with that foot up your ass?" And she'd say, "What foot up my ass?" and I'd say "The one that's gonna be there in a minute when I KICK YOUR ASS" ...ok, not really...but I'd be thinking it. Ignore people like that, they're just messed up.

There was this girl who would constantly pick on me and call my mother fat and myself an "Autistic freak." I was sort of in the same spot as Kristen and this happened on a regular basis. But guess what? That girl ended up leaving my school, making me very very relieved. Not only that, I put the name "Autistic freak" to rest by winning several awards, most of them big ones, becoming student body president and graduating with highest honors and with one of the highest GPAs in the whole school. I don't know what happened with her after that but I frankly don't give a crap.

Kristen, I'm sorry. That's terrible; you'd think that adults of all people would know how to treat someone with a disability. But definitely don't let that bitch get away with that.

Thats so awful, you shouldn't have to put up w/ that.

So many people are like that about people with disabilities, its horrible. I've seen it w/ my dad who has some problems from an accident- people can be downright rude about it.

If you see her again make sure you smush some of her groceries, or better yet, throw the frozen ice cream box right at her head.

 yeah make her feel like the idiot. You might even want to say where others can hear you. "Are you making fun of me because im disabled?" Others will pity her stupidity & rudeness.

I'll have to remember that next time something like this happens. I don't care if they're the customer and they're always right. NO ONE has the right to make fun of another person.

Janice, I'll have to look into that ADA thing.

The next time she comes to your register, you just instantly grab whatever groceries she has, and eat them. She has a loaf of bread? You open that bag and he away. She has a six-pack? You open that box and drink to your heart's content! She she asks "What is your problem!?" you reply with "Well, you obviously know what my problem is since you continously laugh at me. Is my problem so funny now?" That'll piss her off REAL good! And if you feel like it, slap her. A nice good clean slap. Slapping is the best solution to everything...

Hey Snoopy~
Dont let those people bother you. Get revenge! You dont deserve the be treated that way, nobody does. If they come up and say that crap to you again tell them to Kiss your :mooner:. Poeple that say those really immature and assinine things should go to hell. They are the people with the problem, they are insecure. And that stupid saying, "The costomer is always right" is bull~s*hit. Dont belive that either. That costomer is definatly incorrect about what she's been saying to you. If she says anything again, tell her she dropped her pen or money or something and drop a brick of on ice cream and her head and tell her to pick that up while she's down there. And if that doesnt get the point across to her, tell her to "go to another store because we dont have to put up with your stupidity and ingnorance." And if all else fails, flip her the bird!!! Remember, dont change for anyone and defend yourself agenst ass~holes like that. They derserve what they get. I give propsprops: to anyone who is diabled or mentally ill and wakes up each morning and faces the cruel world. Now That takes guts.
And just ingnore those rude bitchs&rude ppl and

Kristen,

You're a class act. The reason I say that is because if I were in your shoes, I probably would have lost it right then and there, and screamed at the bitch. She would have heard some words that would have made truck drivers blush.

Keep your head high and just remember that you're a much better person than that evil [expletive deleted; rhymes with "hunt"] could ever be.

I definately wouldn't have been able to keep my mouth shut if some bitch was laughing at me. I get too defensive as it is. I definately would have been in that situation.

Snoopy:

The worst thing you can do is stoop down to that other person's level. No matter how low they will go. If someone approaches, or laughs at you, than like I said. Ask them "Why are you laughing"?. Ask them in a polite manner. Don't be rude, and make sure they answer your question. You do not have to be embaressed because of your disability. The person who looks at your strange, or laughs at you will feel foolish, when you approach them with your question. Just make sure they answer your question loudly and clearly. So nobody else will misunderstand their response. Do you know what I mean?;)
