The Season One 9 dvd box set is selling for $89.99 ($30 savings)
Also the individual Dvds from Season One (Volumes 1-9) selling only for $9.99 each! Everything available w/ FREE SHIPPING!

**A SIDE NOTE: I just calculated everything, I found out that it is actually cheaper to buy all 9 DVDs from Season One individually altogether than the box set at bestbuy.com, you save a measily 8 cents. Again the individual sets are only $9.99, cheaper than Amazon.com which sells from 11.24-13.49 each and other internet shops and it includes free shipping! But then again the complete 1st season comes in a box which i guess is worth that extra 8 cents =P

The box is pretty cool. I already have the first season individually though. I got most of mine from Best Buy. Way cheaper.
I like buying one at atime they are easier to afford.

That's true, getting them one at a time is lots cheaper, but i can't wait to finally have all of them together in that BOXED set. So, i'll give away or have a contest to get rid of the individual ones.

Now Splain you don't want to get into trouble having a contest.
Remember what happened to Lucy and Ethel's raffle!lol

Ethel's line about the old lady going w/ them is one of my all time favorites. Ethel just didn't want to let go of that money.

P.S. What's wrong w/ Tom Bosley?

He called Lucy the B word, but lately has tried to be fairer in his assessment, i heard him rhapsodizing about her on a talk show recently. Of course, it makes a better story when you're talking about your old work buddy Lucy! He was doing a Broadway show while she was doing Wildcat and then appeared as the doctor in Yours mine and ours, she RAN the whole show in that one and some insecure men dun't like that, one bit!

Like I always say, if a man knows what he wants in business and goes after it he's a go getting hard worker. If a woman has the same work ethic, she's the B word.
Can you imagine all the crap Lucy had to put up w/ esp. that day and age! No wonder she was a tough cookie. You have to be or you will get walked all over.

Both of you said that very well, and i wholeheartedly agree. Can you imagine how hard it was for those men back in the fifties and sixties to be told what to do by a mere woman? Who the heck did she think she was, and i also agree about the fact that if she hadn't been, she never would have gotten where she did, same for Davis and Hepburn and all the other pioneers of that era!

it must have been very hard for their ego's... but you gotta do what you got to do to get anywhere. Joan Crawford was pretty tough too from what I hear!! She scares me. LOL.

Very true, I agree. On the "Desilu" Special, Milton Berle said that people considered Lucy a pain in the you-know-where, and they considered him that too. But, like you said, Milton Berle also said that if she WASN'T that way, she would never have been able to be as successful and get as far as she did. Also, like Wanda Clark has said, what's wrong with being a perfectionist? Bravo for Lucy!

Like Tony Randall and Joan Rivers said, she knew everything about every facett of the business so it saved time in the long run for her to appear tough, she got things done faster. If people feared her, they hurried up and got the job done and did it well to not incur further wratch from her. Remember that one story of Desi arguing with the guy whose job was to remind them of where they were when the camera stopped? Lucy said to Desi, hey, you gave him that job, so either fire him or do what he says!

I agree w/ all of your statements on the whole Desilu thing.
Lucy may not have been "loved" by all of her coworkers and employees but she sure was respected. She didn't hire people to make friends, she hired them to get a job done.

Are ya wet! Very funny line by the way.

Yeah, we forget the pressures they were under, to deliver a new hit show every single week, to stay on top, like Phyllis Diller said when Lucy died, if the public only knew how much sweat and tears went into making something look effortless when we all see it on TV!

ricardo/mertz
09-02-2003, 12:46 PM
Phillys Diller was so right.
It is because of Lucy and Desi's extra effort that I Love Lucy is still a favorite of so many.
I have to tell you something that is pretty funny. My son was flipping through the channels the other night and nothing was on.
So he turned to me and said mom, there's nothing on besides reruns can I watch one of your ILL DVDs?
Now if I Love Lucy isn't a rerun I don't know what is.
Over 50 years later and still going strong.:D

Only the best for the best, the others can have the rest! I Love Lucy is the ONLY TV series ever inducted into the TV Hall of Fame, along with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Lucy in '85 at the first ceremony, Desi and the show much later. Or did i mention that before? No McGiver, No Hulk and no A Team, just Lucy! LOL!

ricardo/mertz
09-03-2003, 10:48 AM
Was Desi still alive when he was inducted? I think it's sad when somone finally gets recognition and they aren't here to enjoy it.

SPLAIN
09-03-2003, 01:18 PM
You're absolutely right about that, i think it was posthumous, and for the show, neither of them was alive, the kids took the award, that one was in 1991! Desi's might have been the same year, i don't remember. That's what some people on these boards don't know, Lucy got too many awards posthumously. The congressional medal of honor and the Governor's award at the Emmy awards came after she died, the stamp, well that's always ten years after they died. I was shocked to read that she was upset the Kennedy Center honor should have gone to both of them instead of just her. Can you imagine what a night that would have been, to finally see them together for something like that? But anyway, he died a few days before the ceremony.
