Has anyone else noticed that some of your favorite funny tv commercials get edited down? Lots of times, they edit out the funniest parts. I used to work in radio & many times, the advertisers would want the ads revised. Guess that's what going on here as well, but at the expense of humor sometimes.
The most recent one I can think of is an AOL ad about getting cable connection. You see the family's house cut wide open & all these strangers come inside with lousy offers & whatnot. But the one scene that had me rolling was the mailman who let himself into the living room to watch cartoons! He's cracking up & slappin his knee! They cut him out!!

I hate when they shorten and delete portions of the good commercials.

It's a let down when they do that but I've noticed that they don't do it all the time. I'll see an edited version on one show and then later see the original longer version played. It must depend on if they want to pay for a 15 to 30 second to 1 minute size slot on any given program.

I work for an advertiser.

It all has to do with the length of the commercial. Commercials frequently have two or three different edits. Some are 15 seconds, some 30, some 60, etc.

I don't know, but I guess the particular version to use is determined by the individual station airing the ad. If they only have time for a short ad then they use the 15 second ad. If they have more time to fill the longer ads are used.

The advertiser has to retain the pertinent info about the product. Sometimes that means the best part of the ad ends up on the cutting room floor. That is painful to me, because I know how much money and time is expended in order to produce the full-length ad.

Oh Jesus- it's the one w/ that tubby kid eating a ton-o-barbeque chicken & they speed up the camera for "humorous" effect, right? I hate that commercial. The kid is downright not cute & it only perpetuates the 'fat American' image we have elsewhere. But you're right- they oughta cut that entire ad altogether.

No, that's a napkin ad...I'm not sure which brand, tho. Probably Brawny.

I know. He would never get a date just because he shaved. He is as fat as a :cow: and probably smells like a pig:.
