I don't know about that, but he would have been in the poor house a lot sooner if he had played his character in the boring that way John Amos and Esther Rolle wanted him to.

I agree with that point there. I think that there could have been more balance.

It was a comedy show. Normal people are not funny. Jimmie became the star by developing J.J. into a character that made people laugh. If Amos and Rolle wanted a serious drama, they should have started a different show. No disrespect to John Amos or the memory of Esther Rolle, but some of their problems with Walker sounded like nothing but good old fashioned jealousy.

Rolle had a right to be jealous because it was her show

It was "her show" in the sense that her character was spun off from Maude, but she was not the boss. Ron Howard was able to accept Henry Winkler's popularity for the good of Happy Days. Rolle and Amos should have been willing to do the same thing with Jimmie Walker on Good Times. Walker owed them nothing and was under no obligation to listen to them over the producers and the fans.

Ron Howard was able to accept it because he was ALWAYS THE STAR. Winkler never became more popular than Howard but Walker did become more popular than Rolle

Wrong again, Sitty. Ron Howard may have been the star in name, but Henry Winkler's Fonzie was clearly the most popular character on the show.

THere was even popularity for the Richie and Fonzie Character. One was not bigger than the other.

Wrong again, Sitty. Fonzie was the most popular character on the show for years.

I'm taking this topic to the HD board. BUT If Fonzie was so popular, WHY DID THE SHOW GO DOWN HILL AFTER 1980??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Because the writing got bad. The fact still remains that Fonzie was more popular than Richie when they were both on the show. You have a way of putting two and two together and coming up with five.
