But, very close behind would be "Flying Saucer," from 1956.
BTW, what about "The Purple People Eater" (Sheb Wooley, 1958) and "Witch Doctor" (David Seville, 1958).

Amazing that it was #1 for 6 weeks. Not many novelty songs stay that long at #1.
