View Full Version : Favorite Billy Joel album - Round Two AKA 08-24-2003, 04:35 PM Pick, pick, pick. omalleyfan 08-24-2003, 05:31 PM I vote for Glass Houses. My all time favorite Billy Joel album isiahthomas 08-25-2003, 04:18 PM How come u didn't post An Innocent Man album in the poll? That is my favorite album by him. I love that album. I'm surprised somebody posted a topic about Billy Joel because i posted a topic about his An Innocent Man album before & nobody responded to it. I like his Modern Woman song also from the Ruthless People soundtrack. Wasn't that song on his Glass Houses cd? dlemond 08-25-2003, 04:54 PM Turnstiles is one of his best. And Glass Houses is excellent as well. So, hmm, I'll have to get back to you. AKA 08-25-2003, 05:51 PM Originally posted by isiahthomas How come u didn't post An Innocent Man album in the poll? I like his Modern Woman song also from the Ruthless People soundtrack. Wasn't that song on his Glass Houses cd? With the exception of a few songs, An Innocent Man has always been my least favorite Billy Joel album. It seems kind of hokey. I know the point of the album is '50s and '60s "doo wop"/R&B nostalgia; it's just that it seems like most of that material would be more suited for Frankie Valli. I know a lot of people like it. I think it's his third best-selling album, behind Greatest Hits Volume I & Volume II and The Stranger, respectively. And like I said, I dig some of the songs on An Innocent Man. "Easy Money" is a great James Brown-inspired tune, and you can't go wrong with Toots Thielman's harmonica in "Leave A Tender Moment Alone." The singles from the album, though ("The Longest Time," "Tell Her About It," Uptown Girl;" etc.) I can defnitely go without. As for "Modern Woman," that's on The Bridge. isiahthomas 08-26-2003, 03:01 PM Man are u crazy? I love his The Longest Time, Tell Her About It, Uptown Girl, Keeping The Faith, Leave A Tender Moment Alone songs a lot off that album. How long was him & Christie Brinkley married? omalleyfan 08-26-2003, 03:13 PM Originally posted by isiahthomas Man are u crazy? I like An Innocent Man myself, but I wouldn't say he's crazy. Innocent Man is so different from the rest of Joel's catalogue that you can be a fan of his yet dislike the album. I like the album, but I probably would only rank it about 5th place behind Glass Houses, Nylon Curtain, Turnstiles and The Stranger. isiahthomas 08-26-2003, 03:19 PM I also like Billy's Just The Way U Are song. What yr did that song come out? Who sang it first? Him or Barry White? omalleyfan 08-26-2003, 03:22 PM Originally posted by isiahthomas I also like Billy's Just The Way U Are song. What yr did that song come out? Who sang it first? Him or Barry White? Just The Way You Are is from 1977's The Stranger. Billy wrote the song, so his version was the original. I think Barry's came out in 1978. isiahthomas 08-26-2003, 03:28 PM My father has a couple of Billy Joel albums at the house. I'm gonna have to look at them. I know he has Glass Houses cause on the album cover, Billy is throwing something at the house. There is also a album that my father has by him where Billy is sitting on the bed next to a mask. What's the name of that album? He has The Bridge album & i have An Innocent Man album. My parents bought that album for me when i was a kid in the early 80's for christmas. omalleyfan 08-26-2003, 03:31 PM Originally posted by isiahthomas My father has a couple of Billy Joel albums at the house. My parents bought that album for me when i was a kid in the early 80's for christmas. the bed with a mask cover is The Stranger. The album with Just The Way You Are, Movin' Out, Only The Good Die Young and Scenes From An Italian Resteraunt. Billy's string of albums from 1976 to 1983 was excellent. I wasn't too crazy over The Bridge, Stormfront (tho I did like it better of the last 3 albums) and River Of Dreams. But still, I wish he would come back from his retirement and do another non-classical album. Especially since a lot of his contemporaries like Elton, Rod, Bowie and the sort have recently released their best reviewed albums in decades. TJL 08-26-2003, 04:42 PM Out of the choces listed above, I would have to go with "Galss Houses," although "Turnstiles" and "The Bridge" are also good choices. My favorite Billy Joel album is "The Nylon Curtain."
