Episode: Tootie's First Date

Scene: Cafeteria
The girls are cleaning up after lunch. Tootie walks in from outside and paces back and forth.

Natalie: Tootie, where have you been?
Tootie: Not now. *Continues pacing*
Jo- Watch it, you're wearin' a hole in the floor.
Mrs. Garrett- Jo...
Jo- What?
Mrs. Garrett- *Gives her a "You know what" look*

Tootie stops pacing and pulls out a seat and sits down. She puts one arm on the table and holds her head up with it.

Tootie: I'm ruined
Natalie: Ah Tootie, it can't be that bad. Did something happen?
Tootie: NO...
Blair- It's all over the school. Tootie was asked out by Max Smallridge!
Natalie: *Gasps* Max Smallridge asked you out?!
Tootie: *Nods slowly*
Mrs. Garrett- Who's Max Smallridge?
Tootie: *Sighs, putting her hands over her face* I'm so ruined.
Natalie: There's nothing to be ashamed about, right, there's nothing to be ashamed about? I would be ashamed if MAX SMALLRIDGE asked me out--- *Sees everyone is looking at her* What?
Tootie: Mrs Garrett, it is wonderful but, just...
Mrs. Garrett- Just what?
Tootie: I've never been on a date before.
Blair- You're not alone, Tootie.

Everyone looks at her.

Blair- Well, Jo hasn't either...
Jo- *Glares*
Mrs. Garrett- *In a warning tone* Girls... this isn't helping Tootie. *Turns back to her* He seems like a nice boy, I'm sure you'll do fine. *Smiles at her*
Natalie: Oh, Tootie, a first date! I remember when you were a wee little thing back on rollerskates!
Tootie: Nat, please? Mrs Garrett, I know he's a nice boy, but I'm really nervous. I don't know what to do.... *Looks at Blair*
Blair- You couldn't possibly want my dating expertisse? *Flips her hair*
Jo- *Rolls her eyes*
Tootie: Actually, yes.
Natalie: I have to say, Blair works wonders.
Blair- Well, I am, after all, the Queen of dating. *Bright smile*
Jo- *Goes to say something*
Mrs. Garrett- *In sing-song/warning tune* Jo...
Jo- *Shuts up*
Tootie: *Gets up* So, will you help me Blair? All I need are a few pointers so I don't flop.
Blair- Certemoire. After all, all of my dates are perfect.
Natalie: They say the first date is the most important.
Jo- Who's "they"?
Natalie- You know, they.
Jo- *Gives her a weird look*

Blair smiles, putting her arm around Tootie. They all go into the exit on the right, towards their room. Only Jo and Mrs. Garrett remain in the cafeteria.

Mrs. Garrett- Well...?
Jo- I'm not sayin' anything. *Grins and leaves*
Mrs. Garrett- *Laughs*

Scene: Girls Room
Blair is helping Tootie on what to do on a first date and Natalie is lying down on her bed. Jo walks in and sits on her bed.

Lisa liked the commercials too. By the way, our chars are split up.

She's Tootie and Natalie, while I'm Mrs. Garrett, Blair, Jo and Max (when the time comes to be him). Glad ya like it N I'll let Ms. LisaPie kno ya like it too : )

Blair- Tootie, with a few lessons from me, you'll be dating like crazy.
Jo- Which is a switch since your dates are crazy enough to go out with you.
Blair- This from a girl who hasn't had a date since '79.
Jo- *Glares*
Tootie- So Blair what do you got?
Blair- Well, we have Lesson 1, which is table etiquette.
Tootie: *Kind of confused* Alright...
Jo- Tootie doesn't need all this phony stuff. She should just be herself. Ya are what ya are and that's good enough.
Blair- In your case it has to be.
Jo- *Gives her a look*
Tootie: Jo... I need this help, desperately
Jo- All ya gotta do is be you. Ya don't need Blair's help to date this guy.
Tootie: But when i'm around him, i'm NOT myself..
Jo- He's just like every otha' guy out there. What's the big deal?
Tootie: *Sighs*
Blair- The 'big deal' is that it's her first date, Jo and she wants it to go smoothly.
Tootie: *Nods* Exactly Blair.
Jo- It will, as long as she don't take any dating lessons from you. *Smiles*

Blair and Jo start to argue and Mrs. Garrett walks in.

Mrs. Garrett- Hello, hello, hello! I hope I'm interrupting something!
Tootie: *Gets up* Forget it! I can't stand to hear them go back and forth like this
Natalie: *Walks in* What's all the racket about?
Mrs. Garrett- Well, they're both right.
Blair and Jo- We are?
Mrs. Garrett- Well, Jo's right about being yourself...
Jo- *Smiles*
Mrs. Garrett- But, I know how it feels when you're around a boy you really like. You get nervous and you can't always do that.
Tootie: That's what I'm going through..
Mrs. Garrett- The important thing to remember is, even if you do get that way, just pretend you're around a boy that you're comfortable with.
Jo- Yeah, like that kid ya dance with, Carl.
Blair- Right. You guys are like brother and sister around each other.
Mrs. Garrett- Well, there you go. Just act like you do around Carl.
Natalie: Ah Tootie, don't worry about it, Mrs. Garrett is right.
Tootie: But he's not Carl..If I knew this would be so difficult, i would of never even accepted.
Mrs. Garrett- Well, what time is your date?
Tootie: He's coming around 7.
Jo- *Checks her watch*
Blair- *Looks* ...Tootie, it's a quarter til now...
Tootie: *Eyes widen* You're kidding me! Ohh no..*Starts pacing again*

Blair- I hope this date goes well...
Mr.s Garrett- It will, Blair *Thinks: "Please let it go well..."*
Natalie: Oh, you know Tootie, she'll do fine, She's like a rock!
Tootie: *Behind the door* Nat, I heard that..
Jo- *Leans against the wall*
Blair- What are you doing?
Jo- *Gives her a look* Swimming. What does it look like...?!
Mrs. Garrett- Girls... *Knocks on the door* Tootie? Are you ready now?
Tootie: Almost...
Natalie: I wonder what could be taking her so long!?
Tootie: *Comes out*
Mrs. Garrett- Oh, Tootie! You look lovely!
Jo- Yeah, real sexy.
Mrs. Garrett- *Slaps her lightly on the arm* Don't give her the wrong impression...
Blair- You look... years older!
Tootie: *Laughs a bit* I hope this goes well.
Natalie: Tootie, you look like a fox!
Tootie: Well gee, that's a compliment.

Meanwhile, Max is downstairs tapping lightly on the door.

Max- Hello..? Hello....? *More tapping*

Jo happens to hear him and walks downstairs. She opens the door and he jumps.

Jo- Whoa, hey, calm down.

Max, now shaking by this time, holds out some flowers to her.

Max- H...h...here Too....T...Tootie.

Jo tries to hold back her laughter, but she snickers.

Jo- Wrong girl, kid. I'm Jo. Tootie's upstairs.
Max- Oh, my... *Turns a bright red color*
Jo- Uh, Mrs. G... ya might wanna come down here...! *Under her breath* {Before this kid takes a heart attack...}
Mrs G: *Walks out to where Jo and Max are* Why, hello Max! Tootie will be down in a minute. *she yells up the stairs in that 'voice of hers'* Oh, Tootie!
Max- *Still shaking*
Jo- *Whispers* I think he's gunna self destruct...
Tootie: *Comes down the stairs slowly* H....Hi Max.
Mrs. G: I'll leave you two alone. *She pats Max on the back on her way out and whispers to Jo as she passes her* He's shaking like a leaf...!

Jo covers her mouth to keep from laughing and follows Mrs. Garrett out of the room, leaving Tootie and Max alone.

Tootie: Hi.. *Smiles nervously*
Max- He...hel....hello Toofie, OH! Tootie...
Tootie: *Nods* Max.. yea..hi.
Max- *Swallows, still shaking* Let's.. get... leaving.
Tootie: Yeah..*Starts to walk out the door*
Max- *Stands completely still*
Tootie: *Notices he's not moving* Uh, Max? Ready?
Max- ...Am I....am I moving yet?
Tootie: *Laughs* No you're not
Max- I umm, I see. *Walks out quickly*

Jo peeks from around the corner and smiles at Tootie. Blair gives her an OK sign and Mrs. Garrett waves.
Tootie: *Kinda smiles back and says to herself* This is gunna be a long night..

*****Commercial*****

" I am stuck on Band-Aid Brand, 'cause Band-Aid's stuck on me! "

*****After Commercial Break*****
Tootie: Max, are you .. okay? *Sees him shaking like a leaf*
Max- Oh, oh, yes, I'll be fine. *Passes out*
Tootie: Oh my gosh. *Goes over to Max who has passed out right in the middle of the pizza place* Um, some help here please!

A teenage guy with an accent runs the shop runs over.

Guy- Whadja do ta da keed?
Tootie: I didn't do anything to "da keed".. he just, passed out!
Guy- I go geet heelp! *Runs out*

Max awakens and quickly sits up, accidentally kissing Tootie in the process.

Tootie: *Backs away quickly* Um, Max?
Max- OH! Tootie! I'm sorry! I, I.. oooooh... *Passes out again*

The scene fades into later that night when Tootie's coming home. Jo, after Mrs Garrett, Blair and Natalie had gone to bed, is waiting up in the lounge.

Tootie: *Puts her purse down and sees Jo reading a magazine* Hey... what're you reading?
Jo- *Lowers the magazine* 101 ways to lube ya bike.
Tootie: *Laughs*
Jo- *Puts the magazine down* Where's Earthquake Boy?
Tootie: *Says really low* He passed out..
Jo- *Gives her a weird look* ...I see... What exactly did you 2 do...?!
Tootie: *Sighs and sits down* Nothing at all.. we were at the pizza place, he passed out.
Tootie: Twice.
Jo- Jeez. Guess he was more nervous than you! Actually, when he called me Tootie, I was kinda wonderin' 'bout 'em...
Tootie: Yeah, and I was worried about looking like a fool?
Jo- *Smiles* What goes around comes around, I guess. Although, in his case, I thought he'd have a heart attack.
Tootie: *laughs* This was a disaster...

Jo sighs and puts the magazine on the table.

Jo- I'm sorry ya had a rough time, kid. Anything good come outta it?
Tootie: *Smiles* We did kiss but it was an accident..
Jo- ...Uh... an accident? No offense, but how do ya kiss accidentally?
Tootie: Um, when he got up, when he became.. uh, 'conscious' i guess, he just bam.. kissed me.
Jo- *Laughs a little*
Tootie: *Sighs*
Jo puts her arm around Tootie and they smile at each other.
