What do you think they would've called TMTMS if they decided to come up with a different title? I was wondering this the other day and couldn't come up with anything so I'm asking you guys.

I suck at names, but I think "Love is All Around" would have been a great title. Love seems to be the underlying theme of the show (Not to mention being the theme song, LOL). Or they could've called it "WJM in Minneapolis" like WKRP in Cincinatti :lol:

LIAA is what I was thinking, but I don't know that seems kind of tacky because it's the title of theme song. :lol:

How about 'Looking for love in Minneapolis.' Oh, that's horrible. :lol:

I came up w/ another one, but I warn you it's bad. They could've named it "These Friends of Mine," which is what Ellen was called before it was changed. I told you it sucked, LOL. It's so hard to imagine TMTMS not being called TMTMS!!

If you replace Mary with Lucy you'll get the title of some of Lucille Ball's shows . . . "The Lucy Show", "Here's Lucy", and "Life with Lucy". The last name you mentioned reminded me of Lucy's radio show entitled "My Favorite Husband".

Actually, the show was called Mary Tyler Moore. Mary Tyler Moore herself really didn't want the show to be called The Mary Tyler Moore Show because she was afraid that the viewers would think the show was all about her. I personally like the real title of show, Mary Tyler Moore, because it bears her name and was one of the first few sitcoms to bear only an actor's name as the title. Other shows that beared only the actors name are Cosby, Ellen, Roseanne, ect.
The one thing I don't understand is that almost everyone gets the show's title confused. Instead of Mary Tyler Moore they called The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Also, the show is sometimes labeled under the TMTMS title and then a couple times I even seen Mary herself call her classic 70's sitcom under the title of The Mary Tyler Moore Show. I just don't understand because it makes no sense.

I think the reason I (and a lot of fans) call it TMTMS is just to avoid confusion with Mary Tyler Moore herself. By keeping the word "show" in there, there's no doubt what you're talking about. At the end of the day, whether you call it "Mary Tyler Moore" or TMTMS doesn't really matter.

After a while, people (myself included) tire of swimming against the current. We just give in and add the words "The" and "Show"so we can get oooooon with it!

Also if you have satelite TV and you go to guide or view when Mary is on, it says THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW. *shrugs* it...it isnt really a big deal, is it? :rolleyes: :lol:

I was thinking the other day how much Sex and the City is like TMTMS, only more recent and risque, of course, so I was thinking Mary could've been called Single in the City but...but thats like plagerism or...I don't know LOL Nevermind me! :talk:

I don't get HBO, so I don't watch Sex and the City, but I did once hear Sarah Jessica Parker say that she hoped her show could be as good as TMTMS. And don't forget, Mary did have sex! ;)

LOL Kristen! Yes Mary did (and with a straight jacket on, I hear? ;) ) But it wasn't as...you know graphic as SATC. lol. (and thats usually the part where I cover my eyes or change the channle!) Also, when the guy that created SATC, Darrin Star or something:confused: , went to HBO to plug it he called it "Mary Tyler Moore for the 90's. But with more sex."
