What do you think they would've called TMTMS if they decided to come up with a different title? I was wondering this the other day and couldn't come up with anything so I'm asking you guys.

Love seems to be the underlying theme of the show (Not to mention being the theme song, LOL). Or they could've called it "WJM in Minneapolis" like WKRP in Cincinatti  Kristen pandora_spocks 08-24-2003, 01:12 AM Originally posted by Kristen I suck at names, but I think "Love is All Around" would have been a great title. How about 'Looking for love in Minneapolis.' Oh, that's horrible. Kristen 08-24-2003, 01:20 AM I came up w/ another one, but I warn you it's bad. They could've named it "These Friends of Mine," which is what Ellen was called before it was changed. I told you it sucked, LOL. It's so hard to imagine TMTMS not being called TMTMS!! pandora_spocks 08-24-2003, 01:22 AM Originally posted by Kristen I came up w/ another one, but I warn you it's bad. That's not all that bad, certainly better than mine! hawaii five-o 08-24-2003, 03:24 PM "Mary", "The Mary Show", "Here's Mary", "Life with Mary", "My Favorite Mary", "Mary in Minneapolis", "Mary Richards" LucyFan 08-24-2003, 08:53 PM Originally posted by hawaii five-o "The Mary Show", "Here's Mary", "Life with Mary", "My Favorite Mary", If you replace Mary with Lucy you'll get the title of some of Lucille Ball's shows . . . LucyFan 08-24-2003, 09:01 PM Originally posted by Kristen It's so hard to imagine TMTMS not being called TMTMS!! Actually, the show was called Mary Tyler Moore. Mary Tyler Moore herself really didn't want the show to be called The Mary Tyler Moore Show because she was afraid that the viewers would think the show was all about her. I personally like the real title of show, Mary Tyler Moore, because it bears her name and was one of the first few sitcoms to bear only an actor's name as the title. Other shows that beared only the actors name are Cosby, Ellen, Roseanne, ect. The one thing I don't understand is that almost everyone gets the show's title confused. Instead of Mary Tyler Moore they called The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Also, the show is sometimes labeled under the TMTMS title and then a couple times I even seen Mary herself call her classic 70's sitcom under the title of The Mary Tyler Moore Show. I just don't understand because it makes no sense. Kristen 08-24-2003, 09:02 PM Originally posted by LucyFan If you replace Mary with Lucy you'll get the title of some of Lucille Ball's shows . . . They were trying to be funny. LOL. Kristen 08-24-2003, 09:04 PM Originally posted by LucyFan Actually, the show was called Mary Tyler Moore. I think the reason I (and a lot of fans) call it TMTMS is just to avoid confusion with Mary Tyler Moore herself. By keeping the word "show" in there, there's no doubt what you're talking about. At the end of the day, whether you call it "Mary Tyler Moore" or TMTMS doesn't really matter. goldie 08-25-2003, 12:23 AM Hi everyone! pandora_spocks - Just have to say the quote of Rhoda reading from the book is one of my favorite lines from the show! That whole scene in the clothing store is SO funny, but her reading is hilarious! Kristen - I think "Love Is All Around" would have been a great title, because everyone around her loved Mary. Peace ~ pandora_spocks 08-25-2003, 02:02 AM Originally posted by goldie Hi everyone! pandora_spocks - Just have to say the quote of Rhoda reading from the book is one of my favorite lines from the show! We just give in and add the words "The" and "Show"so we can get oooooon with it! TVgen62 08-25-2003, 03:13 AM Oops! I forgot to respond to the thread topic! I might think to rename the show with one of the following titles (in no particular order): Single File Just So "Mary" A Woman's Place Good Time News* Farmer Ted and the News* * Notice how many of the episode titles make good show titles. I also considered Mary Richards and the Incredible Plant Lady, just for fun. BlueEyesKid 08-25-2003, 05:50 PM Also if you have satelite TV and you go to guide or view when Mary is on, it says THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW. *shrugs* it...it isnt really a big deal, is it?  I was thinking the other day how much Sex and the City is like TMTMS, only more recent and risque, of course, so I was thinking Mary could've been called Single in the City but...but thats like plagerism or...I don't know LOL Nevermind me! :talk: Kristen 08-26-2003, 12:47 AM Originally posted by BlueEyesKid Also if you have satelite TV and you go to guide or view when Mary is on, it says THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW. :talk: I don't get HBO, so I don't watch Sex and the City, but I did once hear Sarah Jessica Parker say that she hoped her show could be as good as TMTMS. And don't forget, Mary did have sex! ;) BlueEyesKid 08-26-2003, 09:43 AM LOL Kristen! Yes Mary did (and with a straight jacket on, I hear? ;) ) But it wasn't as...you know graphic as SATC. lol. (and thats usually the part where I cover my eyes or change the channle!) Also, when the guy that created SATC, Darrin Star or something:confused: , went to HBO to plug it he called it "Mary Tyler Moore for the 90's. But with more sex." |
