View Full Version : The swimsuits the Brady Girls should have never worn
cjmalagodi 08-23-2003, 04:19 AM I have been a fan of the Brady Bunch for a long time since they started rerunning those shows not long after the original broadcasts. I particularly liked the Brady girls (Marcia, Jan, Cindy) who were undoubtedly very beautiful blonde girls; I am crazy about blondes, including Marcia. The episodes that I don't like was when the Brady Bunch goes to Hawaii; I don't like the scenes when the Brady girls wore those scandalous bikinis that showed their bodies, including their belly buttons.
In my opinion, I think those bikinis are rather indecent for them to wear especially in a family sitcom. They are much better off wearing one-piece swimsuits, the ones that cover up their bodies. What do you think?
I like the series, but this was supposed to be a family sitcom.

barwars 08-24-2003, 01:21 PM Woah.
Just because they show they're belly button doesn't mean its a family sitcom.
Since when is a bikini indecent??
This is THE BRADY BUNCH were talking about.
Plenty of families have little girls that wear bikinis. There's NOTHING wrong with it.
Maybe your a prude, I dont know.
cjmalagodi 08-25-2003, 03:39 AM I am merely stating that family sitcoms such as the Brady Bunch should only allow child actors, or even teen actors to wear decent clothing, including swimsuits. If I were producing the show, I wouldn't allow the Brady girls to wear bikinis on the Hawaii episodes. One-piece swimsuits are a lot more appropriate and a lot more decent.
I am not a prude, I am merely old-fashioned. I wouldn't even let my girlfriend wear a bikini for swimwear. Even if I dated Marcia or Jan, I wouldn't let them wear anything that I feel is unappropriate.

As much as you may not like it, he very well may dictate what his girlfriend wears. I have a relative who bosses his wife around all the time, and he always tells her what to wear. (And she obeys). It's unfortunate, but it happens.
As for the Brady girls' bikinis, how dare they! I could understand them showing their ankles, and maybe a little bit of knee, but anything else is strictly scandalous! :)
Novarro 08-28-2003, 10:53 PM AND alot of girls who boss their boyfriends/husbands around too and tell them what to wear!!
! thought the Hawaiian episodes were great and the Brady Girls looked great in their colored bikini's. Sweet rather than indecent

And you actually have a girlfriend?! Obviously you are "old fashioned" about more than just the Brady girls and their attire. Sounds very controlling to me that you "wouldn't" let your girlfriend wear something in particular.
Back to the topic: Two peice bathing suits are FINE. I personally think, anyone thinking they are bad for anyone, have issues. How does showing one's belly button and stomach end up being more risqué than covering them up with a one peice? Let's not read too much into this folks.
Edit-I was way too polite on my birthday last year.

Ireneparalegal 05-19-2008, 01:04 AM Damn this thread is 3 years old and I have NOT SEEN any of the members who posted on this thread in a very long time except for James.
Jude The Obscure 05-19-2008, 01:32 AM I've never heard of the poster named "barwars", much less to know he was a moderator
Anyway, Carol wore a one piece in these episodes and boy, she had a booty!
;)
Ireneparalegal 05-19-2008, 01:34 AM Yeah, many of the posters on these threads have not been around for a long long time. Barwars is in school. There are quite a lot of BB fans who are no longer around. Which is why I posted what I said above.
Jude The Obscure 05-19-2008, 01:37 AM oh well, everyone has different reasons why they stop posting. For instance I was once a regular poster on the Usenet Brady Bunch group--then it got taken over by nasty foul mouthed trolls who made every subject into about anal sex and stuff. That's the problem with unmoderated forums.

Sounds like a Howard Stern forum.
I would rather see some new threads on BB, not old ones where no member is no longer present and won't respond to any new posts.
Jude The Obscure 05-19-2008, 01:43 AM Well, I'll help Six out......I can respond to his responses

Jude, are you talking about the group alt.tv.brady-bunch? I used to post there all the time but don't anymore. (Then again, the Brady group here was a factor. :D) People at alt.tv.brady-bunch don't talk about the show anymore--at least they didn't a few months ago when I checked up on what was happening there--not a pretty sight ohno:.

Yep, that be the blankety blank group, James. It's been YEARS since I posted there, then trolls like "Kingsfan13" took over and every post was about anal sex or poop or other obscene material. SAD!! :nonono:

sixfingers 05-19-2008, 11:02 AM some people are kinda funny about that sort of thing!

Also, the episode where Greg picks the head cheerleader shows off quite a bit. That ep should be banned or edited, or at least just shown late-night.

I don't get it.
I have seen that much leg exposed on hundreds of cheerleaders in high school. That is what cheerleaders wear. What is wrong with that.
Not to mention mini-skirts exposed almost the same, if not the same, amount of skin back in the late 60's-early 70's. I have family pics of my sister wearing very short dresses, but that was the norm at that time.

But still......to have the episode banned?

One thing that I am "very" happy to know is that I have a friend out there who shares in my appreation for females with nice looking butts! In my opinion, a lady with one of the sexiest rears around is Lea Thompson. I especially like the way that she looks in slacks or jeans! Wow! In the "Caroline in the City" page of this site and the site known as "Jump the Shark" as well as a site called "90 Faces of Lea Thompson" I have posted a bunch of messages about her swinging her behind to the beat of "Funky Town". Seeing it was a "lovely" experience! Another gal who I thought looked "great" shaking her butt was Lauri Hendler who played Julie from "Gimme a Break!" One last babe that I would like to mention is the lady who played Fran Devenoe from "Mad about You". I thought that she was a wonderful lady with a nice firm tush! She is another one that I thought looked "great" in jeans! I would be "very" interested in what this poster or anyone else thinks of these lovely little ladies in general or there butts in particular! Take care.
Ireneparalegal 05-23-2008, 12:06 AM ^^^^Sorry to say, I don't care to look at the their butts...unless they are men. ;)
Smartboy 05-23-2008, 12:49 AM I am going to have to say that I am "very" impressed with how soon somebody responded to my message! If you go to the pages for other shows (particularly "Caroline in the City" and "Gimme a Break!") you will find "dozens" of threads started by me "months" ago and that have "zero" responses! There are also a bunch of threads that I am the most recent person to respond to and have been for a "long" time! In any event, being that this site has a lot of posters both male and female, it is very understandable to have people of a lot of different points of view. The fact that I responded to this thread in the fashion that I did is simply because I look at the shape of a girl's butt as being similar to her legs or her bosom in that it is one more thing that makes her body different than mine and attractive to me. Until next time folks!
Brian Damage 05-23-2008, 08:31 AM   Very clever Janice!

Smartboy 05-24-2008, 05:25 PM If what Jude86 is looking for is an apology, he has got it! I am not really sure of the purpose of his last post, but I think it was to tell me that he was a little insulted that I did not refer to him by the name that he chose for himself and instead said "this poster". If I made him feel like an object rather than a human being, I am "deeply" sorry! In any event, I think that he has some very interesting ideas and I am happy to read all of his posts on any page of this site!

blink 06-04-2008, 09:39 PM We really can't judge a series made back in the early 70's by today's highly prudish standards. After all, we've only reverted back too the nineteenth century in the last twenty years or so. :nonono:

I don't think anyone here is judging the show other than the person who stated Marcia's cheerleading outfit should not have been worn, for it was showing too much. I don't see anyone comparing a 70's show to todays standards other than to say it was nothing really. It was not an issue back in the 70's and surely nowadays, it is not issue when we are exposed to so much more skin and other things on television. What Marcia is wearing in those scenes is tame.

Perfectly put!! I for one never understood the bellybutton thing---who gives a flying fanork, its a bellybutton, whats the point. Oooooo I saw a bellybutton woohoo. Its a tv show, they are on the beach, and its a bikini which as I can recall is worn quite frequently by the female species of all ages. Much ado about nothing .
McGillicuddy 07-23-2011, 06:39 AM I'm glad Alice didn't wear a bikini!
Ohio8 10-16-2011, 03:48 PM Also, the episode where Greg picks the head cheerleader shows off quite a bit. That ep should be banned or edited, or at least just shown late-night.
IllinoisTVFan 10-16-2011, 05:17 PM I see this thread is old but I see nothing wrong with wearing bikinis. They were young and most younger women wear bikinis. I am 40 and still wear bikinis. As far as I'm concerned as long as you have the body to wear one then I see nothing offensive. Now if we are talking thong bikinis that's another story and I don't like those especially. Wearing a bikini is like when a man wears trunks and as long as they don't wear Speedos and are fat I have no problem.
Steve Carras 10-24-2011, 01:31 AM I never did understand what the big deal about belly buttons is, everybody has one and it doesn't even do anything!

The criticism on CJ';s part is understndable to me and I feel the same way, though it's more undferstandable if it were the 1960s and say, Buffy and Cissy or Jeannie--famously VERBOTEN to have LE NAVELLE--showing it....I'm surprised that even in the 1970s that they were starting to show navels on girls.

And again, is was MUCH more prudish in the 1960s when Barbara Eden could not even SHOW a belly button, nor could interracial relationships, the beloved Smothers Brothers joshing about heroin, etc. be even allowed. What was shown in the 1970s was a major step up and it is all too common to see females in two piece suits..even "Alice" type ones:rotflmao: Try being Jeannie or Mary Ann on Gilligan and have a bikini back THEN...there was even an Annette Funicello movie I have called "Bikini Beach" which had Dwayne Hickman [Dobie] and Buster Keaton, about BANNING bikinis. What you are complaining about is perfectly accepted today. Especially if you're Paris Hilton:lol:
