View Full Version : TV Land's loyality
LucyFan 08-21-2003, 04:28 PM Do you think TV Land will ever ditch I Love Lucy? The reason why I bring this up is because Mary Tyler Moore will leave TV Land very soon. Mary Tyler Moore like I Love Lucy was one of the most valued shows in Nick-at-Nite / TV Land History. Also, I have read that Hallmark has purchased The Andy Griffith Show and that series will begin airing on that channel next fall. Since TV Land will be ditching two highly-acclaimed series . . . it gets to me wonder if they will do the same to I Love Lucy. What do you guys think?

I will be very angry if they did.. I think if they dropped it alot of people will stop watching Tvland... I mean sure there are a bunch of great shows on tvland for people to still watch, but I dont think they would do it because its such a popular show.
SPLAIN 08-21-2003, 04:50 PM I only GOT Tv Land because of Lucy, so if they ever ditch I Love Lucy they had better redeem themselves by showing The Lucy show or Here's Lucy or i will ditch them, they have nothing else i want to watch! Hey Lucy Fan, you never answered me about me making you a tape, do you have everything of Lucy's? With a number of posts like that, I'm impressed, you're a REAL fan!

Yeah, I Love Lucy is one of the most popular shows on TV Land as well as The Andy Griffith Show. I heard last year that like TAGS was the #1 highest-rated show. Anyways . . . if they get rid of TAGS then I wouldn't be surprised that I Love Lucy would eventually get the axe too. If that does happen . . I would be very angry and disappointed. I can never imagine TV Land getting rid of I Love Lucy. That's like the best show in the entire world, IMO.
SPLAIN 08-21-2003, 04:56 PM I was shocked that Lucy was number two to Andy's number one back in the sixties, what it is about that small town that appeals to people so much? Hey, the tape part you still didn't answer!

I absolutely love TV Land not only for I Love Lucy but also for their variety of shows they have on their network. Some of my other TV Land favorites are The Brady Bunch, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Mary Tyler Moore, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Happy Days and Sanford and Son. But my All-Time is I Love Lucy. That's the show that introduced me to classic television.

I don't have everything of Lucy at this point. My collection is fairly decent for I have almost every Lucy episode and some specials and game show appearances. Sure . . . I would love to have a tape of more specials and appearances that she made on various tv shows. I really want to the Dean Martin Roast of Lucy . . . that looks really interesting and fun to watch. Besides Dean Martin Roast, their are countless of other things I want to see of Lucy.
Yes, I am truly a BIG fan of Lucille Ball's. She's like my role model in life . . . whenever at times get difficult I often look up to her and think about what she would do if she was in my place. I really admire her because she was such a strong person that accomplished many of her life-long goals.

I wasn't shocked because The Andy Griffith Show was a very strong show during it's course. People found it interesting and entertaining at that time. Also, it was one of the best-written sitcoms during the 1960's era.
During its six-year run, The Lucy Show actually ranked higher than The Andy Griffith Show during the 1962-1963 and 1965-1966 seasons. The last few years were very close between the two shows but it was The Andy Griffith Show that came out on top and then followed by The Lucy Show.
In the 1967-1968 season, TAGS ranked #1 and TLS ranked #2. Their ratings were extremely close too.
SPLAIN 08-22-2003, 10:20 AM Ok, this is the deal, you can check with Ashley, i have been on the boards for almost two years, and i have made about a hundred tapes for Lucy fans, the reason i do is i have some old stuff that i taped when it was on, from around 1984 and after when VCR's first appeared in Canada. I send the tapes free with six hours of product by mail, i did it for everybody who LOVES Lucy, and this is the only place i haven't done it a lot, because this bunch has been very tough on Lucy. But you guys are mellowing and you are NEVER boring, one thing that Lucy couldn't stand. On this site so far, i would love to make a tape for Dawsongirl, LucyFan, Jane of course, maybe Mickey, but i have learned to stop wasting my time with people who show up for a few weeks or months and then dissapear, they can buy their own tapes, i want to perpetuate Lucy's legacy and make copies of things that aren't available in stores to the ones that would appreciate them the most. The only thing you have to do is PM me your address, Ash will vouch for me, and you can check me out at Lucy Talk, i've supplied practically all the old timers there. I promised one to this Maeleck here, and see that person's gone already, but a promise is a promise, i just don't want to go to the trouble of taping six hours for anybody who's cheap and will leave the sites by next month. Ok, so i will start with The Dean Martin Roast if you want, then we have Lucy at The Oscars, Lucy getting the All Star Party by Variety Clubs, The Bob Hope tribute show after she died, clips of her at The TV Hall of Fame when she was inducted and her daughter sang her this beautiful song, My Mother The Star. I have Lucy music videos, clips of her on Bob Hope specials, Joan Rivers and Barbara Waklters interviewing her, and even some recent things that other fans have sent ME! Tell me what you want the most, and PM me your address, i have eight people ahead of you so allow a few weeks for delivery and Jane and Dawson girl, i would love to do the same for you both, others here will follow, but be sincere, i only want REAL BIG fans. The others can contact Michael Cordero at Empiremedia.com, he has this awsome collection and he's not expensive, he has Life with Lucy, her specials, Lucy on game shows, everything, the copies aren't always the best, and he takes a while to deliver, but it's all worth it in the end, after all it's priceless Lucy stuff!
SPLAIN 08-22-2003, 12:55 PM I also have the specials when Lucy died, the ET entirely devoted to HER when she passed away, the Night of 100 stars, i lost my tape of The Kennedy Center Hnors as i wore it out by playing it too often. Among the specials Lucy in London, Mr and Mrs and Lucy Calls The President are the best. Lucy on talk shows is amazing as she said everything she thought of without fear of consequences, not like today where they look like they are on dope and only plug their latest projects. What i do is only put on the Lucy parts to get more on the tapes.
